Being the same people in a club isn't exactly like being family.

well i dont think so at all :)

in several situations the lines between family and club/group/friendship can blur

Depends on how it's played, I guess, but if Bioware does their job, it should add a good interesting layer of emotion.

Anyone know what I am about?

I spent over a hundred post learning what your about. Grunts, chest beating, and left hand turns.

Hm, we do not yet know a single thing about Bethany's character. If she another goody-two-shoes retard helping the weak then in my game she dies as quickly as possible. But what if she an evil, twisted mage, an apostate rightfully accused of eating children alive and practicing blood magic? Such character will be my best companion.

Hopefully, Bethany will not invariably die in DA2. Having Hawke have a sibling party member has a LOT of potential. Hopefully they will not squander it.

Yeah, but since I don't like I will just choose another charac...Oh sorry, I have forgotten this isn't like Dragon Age we played before.

yep this is a sequel to a franchise and not every game needs to be an exact copy. Who wants to keep playing the same game with minor changes? it still takes within the same lore so therefor it's still Dragon Age

Kill her?

Man, are you guys unimaginative.

Get her into prostitution and then you can collect some extra cash to buy that all important magic you might need later.

Well, thats what I will do when I borrow the game.

Or better yet, give her to Flemeth so then Beth would be Flemeth and not your sister and then you know...

Atleast Bethany is all grown up. I have a sis and oh boy, between the ages of 12-16 she was unbearable.

Hey, my warden was a fantastic hero.  I need a new villain to go destroy.  Might as well be Hawke.

Like some people said, if it turns out this sister of yours likes getting into trouble and thus forcing you to save her, I would rather not have her in the game. I'm not up for babysitting, really.

If she can take care of herself, sure, why not!

I have very mixed feelings.  One the one hand, I'd like her sort of undeveloped and Hawke can influence her for good or ill.  On the other hand it would be interesting if her personality was set and you had to destroy her or have her join you depending on your personality.

If I'd have to guess, I'd say she'll have a basic personality which the player will be able to partly influence in certain ways without changing her completely and making her come across as mindless and nondescript. Ex. she starts as, say, "Chaotic Neutral" and she can become either "Chaotic Good" or "Chaotic Evil" (and yes, I am aware there are no typical D&D alignments in the game...Posted Image )

I´d like to ask you about your opinion about having Bethany at our side.

I´m only child myself and asked if I´d like to have a sister or a cute brother when I was 5 years old, I honestly answered that I´d prefer to get a doggy.
I had to wait til DA:O til I got one and now, surprisingly Bioware seems also to fix the sister issue, where my parents failed. Posted Image

What I´d like to know:

Are you annoyed because family bands are the simpliest way to tell the player:
"Like her! Care for her! Promptly!"?
Or are you tired about the eternal lonely hero who´s parents died 100 years ago or explode in the intro to give you the utlimate reason for revenge (besides of an expolding love interest of course).

I know it´s a little bit cliched, that heroes usually pop up from nowhere just right before epic things have to be done. On the other side it could be hard to be superhuman with somebody on your side you argued about make up or.. magic wands before.

Independent from the time lenght Bethany will really attend us in the end:
What do you think about?

As long as she can care for herself and we don't have to save her every time ("Oh Hawke! I have been kidnapped by darkspawn! Please, please save meeeeeeeeeee!"), I'm fine with her.

I look forward to it, if she doesn't end up being a redshirt. I have a feeling BioWare would let us RP the relationship to our liking beyond the whole 'hurr must protect little sister' thing.

The writers got family relationships right on the mark in Origins. The Cousland family really felt like a perfect family and it was pretty emotional (for a game) at the start. Bhelan and Trian were also great characters although that origin was spoiled which is a great pity. The Brosca family was interesting and I felt protective towards your sister and the Alienage did feel exactly like an extended family struggling through adversity. If the writers can create the same sort of dynamic with Bethany then yes, I think its a great idea.

I mentioned this in another thread. From playing the demo, my impression of Bethany was that she was the quiet sister I never had.

As long as she can take care of herself most of the time and I don't have to save her from templars/darkspawn/flemeth/giant apes every 10 seconds then I don't mind having a sister around.
