Okay I can't find anything in here on my prob and maybe I
didn't look hard enough, if that's the case someone point me in the right
direction please!!! The game installed and updated, after half an hour or so of
playing the screen goes black and says it's entering power save mode. It did
not do this before I had to reinstall Windows due to probs, she ran fine before
that! HELP!! My comp specs are below:

Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit

Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4 2.39

5 GB ram

NVidia GeForce 8800 GT

Reinstalled the same version of Windows, no changes have been made and Power
Save mode is OFF! I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, updated,
then tried ot play and everything else I can think of. IDK what the heck
else I can do. I refuse to accept that I can't play the game, that's ludicrous.
Please someone help out.

Have you also checked your power modes, and set to high performance instead?

On a side note, your 5GB RAM is redundant, only 3GB of it will be seen due to your OS being 32bit and the 4GB limitation.

yep, it's on high performance and it's my hubs PC so he spec'd it out not me. I just know how to access the specs to see what's there.

Hmmm so guarenteed 30 mins screen shut down? And do you have to restart the PC because of it?

Is this a desktop or laptop?

Laptop could be a setting in your BIOS needs to be changed, some laptops have power options in the BIOS to minimize battery usage.

If Desktop, perhaps again in your BIOS there is a cut off temperature for either the CPU or Graphic Card.

It's a desktop, and I do have to manually restart the PC because of it. I"m a PC gamer, never had any trouble with this PC before. I love the game but I can't manually reboot every half hour to play.

Try this, run the game in window mode (check in game options and turn off full screen, or from the configuration utility before playing the game) see if it does it again.

Also does it go into power saving mode with other software or games?

Another thing when in windowed mode for DA, try and grab a piece of software that shows your current temp levels on your CPU and GPU. Speedfan comes to mind, its a handy utility that can control your fan's speed and show temp's on HDD's etc.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan441.exe Its free, and takes a few seconds when you first start up so dont worry if you think its crashed it hasn't.

Your CPU may come up as CPU on the list or as TEMP 1,2,3 etc, then play DA in windowed mode, and watch the temps while playing, to see if anything is way overheating.

Okay I ran speedfan and windowed mode DA. Took it less than ten minutes to crash my comp this time, speedfan got my temps. my four core temps ranged between 50C and 58C while DA was running. My GPU temp got up to 112C. It's 97C idle now. My core temps are between 35C and 39C now, starting up speedfan my GPU was @ 98C before running DA and having it crash. IDK what the temps mean but obviously you do so I hope this helps. Thank you so much!

Your GPU is way overheating, that is your problem unfortunately.

Your GPU should be around the 45-50C mark resting.

My GPU temp is coming down, I popped my side panel off to get some air flow going. yeah I looked it up and even overclocked my gpu temp shouldn't break 100C, I broke a hundred. thank you for all your help. Maybe in an hour or two when the temp is down I'll try to run DA again and see what happens. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Does the GPU have a 6 pin slot on the top or right hand side of the card, and is a 6 pin connector plugged in?

Is the fan on the GPU going? It could be blocked with dust.

Chances are slim though, the card could have been overheating for weeks or months and has slowly degraded the card, it could be the reason why you had to reinstall windows in the first place, if it was hardware related.

If you had another GPU lying around to test if the 8800 is indeed damaged that would be good also, but not everyone keeps old GPU's usually.

But my personal opinion is your GPU is on its last legs time for a new one :(

My hubs just said we should opt out for a new one too. I actually do have an old one, lol, we had our own PC's but mine unfortunately died and he didn't use his that much so I took it over versus getting a new one. Unfortunately when he did have the PC he overclocked the graphics card horribly and now he'll have to pay for that by replaying it. I pop the side and clear the dust out weekly, I'm anal bout that. But I use this for my online schooling as well so I need it up and running. I don't know about the slot or connector. The fan makes this high whining sound when it's on and yep it's running right now. She's down to 88C and going down but it's going to take a bit to get it down. That's still too hot. And the overheating and degrading, yeah that makes since. After checking the temps I did a little research and we'll probably end up getting a new one. Any suggestions?

He has overclocked this card? He probably way overclocked it perhaps. Tell him to put it back to normal in the BIOS and see what happens, if it isn't already set back to normal.

And tell him in the future an OC of 10-15% is acceptable, 50% or more is asking for trouble, infact overclocking full stop is asking for trouble :P

yeah, he's out with a friend of ours right now but his cell phone has been ringing up a storm via me. Lol, I never overclocked my graphics card and my comp aged out on me. I get his and I've had it only a short time and issues, issues, issues! PC soap opera up in here! when he gets back I'll have him put it back to normal bios and see what happens, we are also going to try my gpu from my old pc which doesn't run quite the specs his does but hasn't been run the way his has either.
