David Gaider - 24 February 2009
As has been mentioned, the traditional method of dialogue choices coupled with the silent PC was chosen for DA because we felt it fit this game better -- primarily the fact that you have options of race and origin as well as gender and trying to find a single voice to match all these options would be difficult. In ME you were playing a human character with a set military background, and while I get that some people don't like the voices we chose for Shepherd there it fit the game overall.
Whether or not we would switch to the use of ME-style dialogue in the future I honestly have no idea. I suppose a lot of it will rest on how many fans and reviewers see the reasoning behind our choice rather than continuously calling it "a step backward" as opposed to a style choice.
I wouldn't mind using the ME-style in a DA game, myself -- perhaps with some modifications? Maybe the ME team learned a few lessons about it in their first game that will make it even easier for them in the future, I don't know. Such a switch would come with some inherent limitations, however. Just because something is innovative doesn't necessarily make it appropriate for all occasions.
Fun to dig up the past!. Ah but i still belive we havnt seen anything yet. Much is still to be revealed.

Not that long. It's been stuck in the back of my head for a long time so I knew what to search for. Always appreciated Georg's posts as I found them to be extremely informative.Zhijn wrote...
Hah thats funny. How long did it take you to track that line down?. =)
And I love that Gaider quote. Seems like he hasn't changed at all.

I expect that is very close to correct. In the right ballpark, anyway.Marionetten wrote...

There is also 50% more smecks, 150% more jiggle mesh, 136% more epic smecks cutscenes, 300% more hawter male romanceables, 20% more redhead wimmins, 600% more epic poses, 1000% bigger swords, 20% bigger shoulder pads and 80% more snarky responses.

I read "fifty percent shooter" and got really confused.
Hahaha, I did the same thing.
I agree though that part of the time issue may have been a "had DA:O been voiceover with 12 differen VOs to cover each origin".
But even if it is shorter...*shrugs* if I still enjoy the game I still enjoy the game. I almost never finish a game in the same amount of time as is suggested by the devlopers so planning my purchases around that never makes any sense for me.

DAO would've required separate voices for each race. DA2 only has one race to worry about, so no, it probably won't decrease the game's size (at least not quite that much).Marionetten wrote...

There is no doubt that this action combat game Dragon Age 2 will be shorter and have less plot than the rpg game Dragon Age 1, just the reduction of available chracters means the reduction of plot lines.
the first game while the plot was good didn't have much of a plot. Some of it just felt like padding the length. While some of the quests were long it sometimes felt like they were just extending the length. The whole plot wasn't exactly deep or all that long really.

Well, Awakening is an expansion and is long only 20 hours (which is good for an expansion, but would be short for a sequel).Siradix wrote...
I don't know about 50% sorter; I imagine that DA2 will be shorter than DA:O, but longer than Awakening.
I hope that Dragon Age 2 will still be a long game, though I think it will be a bit shorter than Origins.

For example, Awakening required me 12 hours to complete. Origins averagely twice as much, trice in the worst case (when I read the whole codex and played on Nightmare, my eighth run).

O thanks god I am not the only one that was able to complete the game below 40 hours. I just don't understand how can people take 200 hours to complete one run on normal, but oh wellFaust1979 wrote...
I have played through origins twice so far and each time it took me about 30 hours which is a pretty good length.
