Sten conversation bugged (slight Sten spoilers within)

I'm in the later stages of the game. Getting my fourth and final allies to join in the fight against the Blight. I've completed Sten's quest to retrieve his sword. Now whenever I talk to Sten he acts as if he's back in his cage, and tells me this:

"Why don't you go run from the Blight like all the rest of your kind?"

The camera doesn't focus on Sten when he says this but on some other portion somewhere on the map. Whenever I have this conversation it seems to teleport my whole party to a different part of the map I'm in. When I was in Orzammar and had this conversation by accident in the royal palace I was moved half way across the map. I thought this was a one time bug and thought nothing of it. Now I'm in Denerim, and just clicked on Sten to see if he had anything to say. The same conversation started up and when I chose "I will leave you be." I was transported outside of the Denerim bounds, so right now I'm running around where there's no ground.

Is Sten a generally unliked character? I find him to be one of the more interesting ones. His background is really well fleshed out, and his personailty leads to some interesting and funny banter.

Speaking of which, Morrigan and Sten seem to be "stuck" repeating the same banter over and over again. I don't remember exactly how it goes, but it's the one where Morrigan starts off saying something like "Sten, are you picturing us together again?" and he answers "Yes", then goes on to describe how she will require armor and probably a helmet, and says that he will nuzzle. He mentions that his kind can bite through leather, wood and metal given time.

It took me a while to realize that it was due to the problems mentioned previously. I've had this problem for days now. I thought it might be a toolset issue, but from some of the replies here, I would gather that is not the case.



I did a lot of research on the issue, as well as reloading games all the way back to the beginning of the campaign and the problem persisted. I began seeing more and more issues with companions, their abilities, and conversations. It appears that global variables containing companion state information (and possibly DLC info) are getting lost or overwritten, but that is just a guess. A reinstall of the game allowed me to once more add the companions to my party without the weird "teleport to the middle of nowhere" bug, but many of my items were gone. Obviously, all of my relationships had been reset as well. I'm counting upwards of 10-12 hours spent on this bug now.



At this point, I hesitate to even play anymore as I'm on my third character due to this bug and I can't seem to get more than halfway through before it affects me again. I love the game, but even I have my limits.
