I do not like the new art direction at all.

Based on the pictures of darkspawn I have seen, they've lost their "scariness".
It seriously looks like they are making the game for a bunch of WoW kiddies.

Iuno, filed teeth, giant point shoulder pads...

The darkspawn are infinitely less scary to me now, and this scares me.

Why the **** would they need to change the whole concept art when everyone loved the way the first game was.

I hate when developers try to "fix" what has already worked.

Although I like the look of Hawke and Bethany, I agree with you on the darkspawn. I think it's mostly that spiky armor that people don't like.

...but at least now you'll be able to look at them and know that it's "Dragon Age". :D

Why did you make a topic for this? THere are like 100 posts about this already.

I actually don't mind the spiky armor too much because it seems to fit the idea from the books that they just strap random bits of metal to themselves.

I don't like that they've been MJ'd up and turned white. Not because I think it looks awful, but because I can't stand inconsistencies like that.

I didn't bother searching the forums, my cousin told me it was announced, so I looked it up.

I saw the screenshots, made an account and posted.

too bad, why dont you go make your own video game, or at least plan for a mod. That way you can have all the fun you want, instead of yelling at the devs to not respect your personal tastes.

I do however dislike the art too, but I'd wait a while before judging

Mecha we're all allowed to voice our opinions.

Dragon Age appealed to me because it was a "dark" rpg. Kind of like the whole sword and sorcery conan stuff, but I guess with elves and dwarves and what not.

I just can't take these darkspawn seriously >.<

Not like there aren't already 100 threads discussing this, oh wait, yes there are

Hey Haexpane.

Since there are so many threads discussing this don't you think it might be considered a HUGE issue for the dev team to consider?

I think it represents a huge issue that MANY fans are so angry about the art direction the game has taken.

I distinctly remember the devs stating that the art direction from the first game had more of a "dark fantasy" feel.

I liked that.

The darkspawn now look like failed orc concept art from a last gen lotr game.

With the graphics of a last gen game to boot.

Well, a lot of people complained about Borderlands graphical overhaul and that game sold suprisingly well. Then again when the fans of Infamous cried foul after seeing how 'Sucker Punch' had changed up, protagonist, Cole's look in Infamous 2,'SP' reportedly changed his look to be more in line with the Original.

So...there's a 50/50 chance that Bioware's new design will work in the end, and resonate with the fans. We shall see.

I don't like the new "goth emo" art either.  But I don't see that changing by March 2011 unless they delay the game

I would take a delay in order for them to change it,

The armor does look dreadful

Its kind of like in FF10 how their outfits had random crap on them that served no purpose. What are hurlocks being afraid of being picked up by Ogres?

99% of everythign in FFX served no purpose, other than being a Jpop Boy Band Simulater :)

The deepest gameplay in FFX is the blitzball.  Way more fun than the game's combat or cheesey story about a soccer player w/ a drunk dad

Sharpen their teeth and remove those ugly noses and I'm fine with the darkspawn's new appearance. Although you're right, I loved their old look, and really loved the faces of the disciples in Awakening, "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" as my grandfather would say. Hopefully the darkspawn get their sharp, more menacing teeth back, and drop those bulbous noses, looked better when they had nostrils where a nose would be, almost a skull like facial appearance, and I loved it. I also want darkspawn to have war paint on their faces like those featured in the Sacred Ashes and Warden's Calling trailers.

I suspect the reason they're changing it is because not everyone loved the art style of the first game. I actually agree with Bioware, parts of DA:O's art style were fairly messy.

I liked Tidus' story and the sphere grid system was great if you liked multiclassing.

But the combat...god what were they thinking? The fact I could beat the toughest bosses WITHOUT LEVELING UP is a serious issue they needed to fix. Oh well to late now. Still better then that dress sphere crap in X-2.

Indeed, those orcs or goblins or whatever-they-are certainly are distinct from the orcs and goblins in other fantasy settings. :D

Preaching to the choir man...been saying this since the 1st screens hit the web, the new style is horrid imo and a huge backwards leap from what we already had in DOA

Would of never guess'ed they'd go this way and deviate so much from the designs and models that gave them their biggest selling game in their history.

Shocking, irritating and sad!

I've championed the art direction thus far, mainly because it's predecessor is so visually uninspired. From DA:O, the only way to go is up, when it comes to aesthetics.

But I need to qualify my adoration here...with that spiky armor. It's too exaggerated. Too Weird.

DA, in my opinion, should appear more realistic than your typical hack and slash. I don't mind an emphasis on style, and so far, character design looks vastly improved. But then they are wearing that crazy, stealth bomber armor. It's the only thing I don't like about the new look.
