ok im running vista that might be the problem, installed fine, went to the .ini file and was much shorter than i remember it being. there were very few entries... i'll just copy everything in there cause it is hard to explain.

that is everything it has in there, and when i open the game it wont let me use any of the cheats. if someone can maybe copy and paste what they have in their's or tell me what im doing wrong so i can fix it, thanks much. i miss winXP it worked so well for games.

Vista and Win 7 do this if you install the game to c:\\program files.

You can likely find the real baldur.ini file among the "compatibility files" (described e.g. here). Not installing the game to c:\\program files appears to be popular among Vista and Win 7 users.

Yup - I've run SOA+TOB+a billion mods on Vista (no UAC) and Windows 7 for years. Just install it into c:\\games subfolder and it's been smooth sailing from there. Been easy and solid for 5+ re-installs (had to reinstall because I installed too many mods, not from technical issues)



I don't have any funky wireless keyboard/mice or fancy video cards to deal with so that's helped (fairly basic Lenovo laptop from work).

thank you both that fixed it, i was wondering something else that maybe you gys can help with. i used to be able to hit the "TAB" key and it would highlight any doors, boxes or loot, i looked for a key mapper but i cant find anything about it as it has stopped working and will only show my char's hit points. any help wowuld be great thanks again

TAB highlighting containers is only works if you have ToB installed.
