Hi everybody. I'm new to the game Mass Effect.
I've installed it on my computer, which has a NVidia GeForce 7600 GT graphics card and 2 gigs of RAM and is running Windows XP. The processor is a Pentium 4 at 2.60 GHz.
I've actually also installed Mass Effect 2 on this PC as well, and have played it a bit but I'm holding off doing it all until I play through the first one. Mass Effect 2 has no problems at all. Other games play fine, like The Witcher and Crysis.
However, there is a glitch that manifests itself on the Mass Effect 1 character models and I don't know why.
The glitch can clearly be seen at the character creation screen:

I've d/l the latest driver for the NVidia GeForce 7600 GT at Nvidia's site, and I've also downloaded DirectX 9c and reinstalled it just to make sure this isn't a driver problem. I've played around with the settings of the NVidia control panel as well, turning things on and off to no avail.
Has anyone else seen this before and if so, is there a solution?
Thanks!
Brian

You will almost certainly benefit from getting rid of the "new" video drivers, which are most likely in conflict with your old video card, and rolling back a year or so to a more suitable driver for that card.

Thanks Gorath! I'll try that and let you know how it goes.

You know, I should have mentioned one reason I finally bought these fine Bioware games is because I upgraded my computer last week by buying that NVidia GeForce 7600 GT and a 2 gigs of RAM. Before that I was running a much older card with only 768 MB of RAM.
Of course, since I bought this new card on Amazon, it's still 'old' itself, lol.
So I assumed since my old card was so old, I needed to go to NVidia's website and d/l the latest drivers for 'new' 7600 GT. Which means sometimes the 'smart' thing to do isn't very smart after all!

Yes, the problem was the newer drivers! I went to NVidia's site and downloaded a driver for the 7600 from last year that was released in June.
And now all my characters look AWESOME.
Thanks again!

You might want to take a look at my thread called "Hard crash with flickering," a few threads down from this one at the time I'm posting this. I had the same issue (well, almost exactly the same; my characters had the "scarring" around the cheeks but not on the forehead) with my Geforce 7800 GT (not the exact same card as yours, but in the same series). Rolling back to my two-year-old driver did fix the funny textures, but it didn't stop the crash. If you're lucky, you won't suffer the crashes, but if you do, be warned: it can screw up your Windows installation. Check out the thread I mentioned.

Thanks Josh, I'll give it a look! I am loving this game so far, and it's even better now that my characters don't look so weird!
