first PC specs

4 gigs DDR3 1600 ram
windows 7
3.06GHz Core i3 processor
ATI Radeon HD 5750

next this only recently began to happen i've played it a few times on this new rig already over the past 7 months and it's been absolutely perfect until now

problem is it suddenly developed large amounts of minor lag through out the citadel never happened before it's a wee bit bothersome.

any advice or suggestions?

Start with scans of the system with malware scanners, for adware in particular, but run a virus scan as well.  Then open the Task Manager and try to remember what is newer than the last time you played.  If you changed AV brands, suspect that immediately.  Failing to recognize the culprit, run a series of Clean Boot diagnostic procedures to try to isolate the conflicting background process.

comps clean and well kept i do regular maintanance and scans

add: no unknown programs running in the background either and nothing different from last week

Are you runing the game in window or full screen mode?
Are you runing a music player(IE:>> Winamp), Downloading a mod, or using Fraps in the background?

i did have s steam download going but i don't own ME via steam and i've done that before.

I am off the citadel now and it seems to only occur on key planets ie:citadel noveria so far. should i just chalk the downloads finally finished so i will try it again today and reply back. now that i think about it it may have been the steam download >.< silly me. but i'll check

Edit:

I have checked and by running around noveria DL was not the the problem i also shut down xfire because i know it can be a resource hog not the problem lag persists >.< is it possible that this file has become corrupted or something?

One bit of voodoo you could try is deleting the shader cache in the Config utility. Haven't heard of it helping a situation like this, but I know it sometimes does seem to become corrupted in one way or another.

If your AV scanner supports it, try adding ME as a "trusted app".

Could be a new engine update to your AV is scanning every file as it is demanded which could be causing the stutter.

already was registered as a trusted app.

@Klorreep (sorry if i spelt it wrong)

tried it seemed to make it worse actually >.< this confused me greatly

@dead rat guy

aired it out recently no dead rats.

i've also re-installed it 3 times (though i saved my saves and settings ) to no avail >.<  i'm trying again today (nixing saves adn settings) to see if it works right now. this really sucks because i was in the middle of an infiltrator playthrough on hard >,<  hopefully this will fix it any chances it might be BDtS?

Temperatures shouldn't be a problem case is 22x20x10 with 4 15mm fans (i think it's fifteen ) it's vented well enough. the fans are also set to run at max atm. anywho i think i fixed it pretty sure it was the similar kaspersky problem someone else had no more lag when i full disable Kasperskies to play

A 15 mm fam is about the size of a US 25 cent coin (quarter), if there happened to be one that small.  The current compromise between large, quiet, and slightly more expensive is 120 mm, two for air intake, and two for air exhaust.  The prior fan size in common use was 80mm, and only two of those at a time, one for intake, one for exhaust.  They were inexpensive, but also comparatively noisy.

The more expensive route these days is with 140 mm fans.  I have a Cooler Master Centurion 590 that has mounts for four of those (two in the top, two in the side, and two 120 mm fans, front and rear).  But no matter how potentially good the airflow happens to be, lint and dust accumulate rapidly in residential settings due to carpeting, draperies, pets, and people (a huge part of dust in homes is particles of skin that humans shed constantly).  The CPU and GPU have cooling solutions that normally consist of a finned heat sink unit, and an attached fan, are VERY easily clogged by dust to the extent that a monthly dustout is often mandatory, and a constant monitoring of temperatures is equally necessary.

15 cm sorry these are about the size of saucer plates (or the 120 mm)

and in regards to the dust i clean it regularly there is very little dust in there.

and if it were because of the temperatures wouldn't it set in after it's been running for more than 20 minutes? and wouldn't it affect multiple games? i have roughgly 45 games on my computer none of them but GTA IV and DAO lag GTA IV doesn't have constant lag and only lags in certain large and vastly populated spots every once in a while and DAO lags after a few hours of continious play because they use RAM for a cache of some sort >.< i asure you temperature is not an issue. as no other game but the afore mentioned Mass Effect 1 which i could run with out this much lag on a smaller Dusty Covered System with a G100 graphics card in it for hours with out the lag i'm speaking of in this thread. my ventillation is fine. Not everything is a hard ware problem Gorath and again thanks to another thread pretty sure i fixed it.

If anyone wanted to suggest that I had a "hammer and nail" fixation, it wouldn't be hardware in general, although I like almost all hardware more than I like all software.  The area that I got stung by the worst in recent years was graphics.  I started assembling my own X86 PCs about 24-25 years ago, and thought I was keeping up with things adequately, but got caught with three of nVIDIA's terrible FX video cards.

Graphics became a sort of fixation, and I studied up on that.  So I can help to a greater extent with that area, and that could become the "hammer" I might look at to cure all manner of "bent nails", although I try to avoid getting into that mindset, of course.

no worries just pretty sure i fixed it. i'm still new at this but i'm learning quickly PC gaming requires you have at least basic knowledge of the materials your using.
