That's too bad. The only way you can play it without the key code it came with....would be to use an illegal crack. And nobody here would help you do that.

This is why they tell you to put your key code in a safe place. I keep a copy of all the key codes for my games in the games themselves plus digital typed out copies on wordpad documents saved on two separate hard drives on my computer.

Since the Mass Effect game is very cheap now, you're probably going to have to buy a new copy. When you say you are 'downloading it' if you are doing so off of Steam you should get a key with the game.

Why would you be downloading the game any way when you bought a copy a year ago? Your not using some illegal torrent and hoping somebody here will give you a crack, are you?

Jongilles; Right, I'm confused.

You say you bought it at Walmart (which is a retail store, to the best of my knowledge)), yet you're downloading the game? Are you mixing your terms up and by "downloading" you mean "installing"? The keycode isn't on a "slip of paper", it's on the back of the manual.

If you registered your game with your BioWare account on the old website, you'll be able to sign into your account there and retrieve the key.

If not, then as monofaiki2008 said, you're likely going to have to repurchase the game. Luckily it's very cheap now.

No, for at least some retail copies of Mass Effect (including the one I have), the key is indeed on a slip of paper inside of the DVD case and not on the back of the paper manual.  It's a very stupid idea, because this tiny slip is much easier to lose than the game manual (my key paper blew away with the breeze from my desk fan, but fortunately I saw it happen and retrieved it immediately).

jongilles, if you installed the game on your old computer, the one that couldn't run it, didn't uninstall it, and still have access to that computer or its hard drive, it's possible for you to retrieve the key. You can check it by opening the configuration utility (I don't remember which option).

If you registered the game in order to access the Bring Down the Sky DLC, then you can enter the registratio site for such content, and your game key will be there as well.
