Let me quote Mark Meer interview
Mark Meer...
Mark Meer (Commander Shepard)- I’d worked on a number of Bioware Games before, starting with Baldur’s Gate II back in 2000 (my part consisted of one line in a cutscene right at the end of the game). I’d worked on pretty much all of their games after that, in some capacity or another (Neverwinter Nights, KotOR, Jade Empire…). At the time I was asked to audition for the role of Commander Shepard, I was already working on Mass Effect, doing some preliminary development work for them on how the various alien races would sound. I did the audition, and sort of forgot about it, since I didn’t think I had a chance at it, and just sort of assumed I’d get some work as aliens and what have you. Then I did a callback, and another, and then was informed that I had the part! It floored me -- especially when I found out that Jennifer Hale was playing female Shepard. Quite an honor to get to be her “other half”. She’s one of the best and busiest voice actors in North America.
1st somebody find that Balur's Gate 2 line!
2nd I really love how Mark Meer was honored to work with Jennifer Hale. Why the hate for some of you FemShep fans?

That hatred is derived from dissatisfaction of quality and attention between the two genders, and rarely directed at Meer. I need not point in any direction beyond Femshep's little black dress and her frequent tendency to offer everyone a upward view (

) as a primary example. Thus, you can understand the irritation, although I concede it often is far too irrational and sometimes petty.
Personally, having played both genders. I began to favor Hale yet found Meer did an excellent job. Neither him nor Hale were flawless and it is evident in which particular scenes they shined or struggled. I found Renegade Sheploo during Tali's loyalty mission not only Meer's best overall performance however arguably one of the best scenes period. Likewise, I found Hale trumps him with a Renegade handling on Tali/Legion. Meer came across stern while Hale was frightening.
I have every intention of completing another Sheploo run. Ashley and Miranda need some attention after all. And I have yet to make a custom Sheploo. This must change.

I am tempted to do a Soldier run with Grunt and Zaeed only just for "We are walking death" fun.

Regardless, we can best conclude that Femshep is popluar and Sheploo is popular. Therefore, both are awesome to different people. Shocking revelation!
