Also the poll is sort of flawed because 25 and under can mean anything.

Yes, also the poll only gives the option of "over 25" or "under 25" .  What if you actually are 25?  That age is not included in the poll.

Then you can make a banner that says how you used to be apart of the community, but now you're just 25.

Lol, you win best comment of the thread!

Not sure how to explain Jacob's lack of support, but he always seemed like more of a "bro" character than an LI to me. More like a friend than a potential romance.

I had one female-Shepard, and she had a romance with Thane. I decided it is time to talk to Jacob. So she went and talked to Jacob. I'm still so traumatized I will never play as a female-Shepard again. Not even in ME10. Not acceptable! Bioware has these moments that always make me scratch my head...and think what the hell were they thinking when letting that happen. I hate to be ashamed of my character.

I belive its 18. These are M rated games. Anyway I'm under 25 and voted for Tali, must of been a sudden burst of immaturity that kept me from choosing one of the correct LIs.

The poll actually does not say "I liked Tali the most because I'm too immature to choose one of the correct LIs." If you think it does, you're projecting.

However, I could understand someone dismissing the poll altogether because they feel age or gender has nothing to do with a character's appeal. The whole reason the poll was created was a discussion about how previous polls should be dismissed for not taking age and gender into account.

But then we could get really specific and say how many Bioware games you've played is a factor, your ethnicity could play a factor, where you live could play a factor, how many sisters you have could play a factor, whether you think Gogol Bordello is a good band can play a factor. Hell, the fact that it's even being done on the Bioware Social Network is going to skew the results drastically. And what do you get in the end? Correlation does not equal causation.

I'd probably follow the Female LIs category division and go with "25 and under." Don't know why Mondo47 didn't word it that way for the Male LIs other than oversight. Don't know if she can even change it.

I love how the loudest, most immature fans of a specific character can somehow make it so that anyone who likes that character must be immature and creepy.

Now if you made a poll that asked what non-LI we want as an LI that sorted by age and gender, you could probably get some interesting (hilarious) results.

And this is why "Jacob" sucks. Not because of Jacob himself, but because FemShep comes off like a sex-crazed cougar when talking to him. You look at the guide text, and you think she's just going to be nice, and all of a sudden she sounds like Austin Powers, "shall we shag now or shag later, baby?" Ick with a capital I. And his character just doesn't really pop. It doesn't help that you pretty much have to ignore everything he says in the game to succeed.

I think that's actually "using sarcasm to take a backhanded shot at the snap judgments and broad brushes used on the forums, as well as those who promote them" more than "projecting".

Most of the time it is the same people/trolls making the same generalizations anyway. Personally, I find all this bickering about which virtual girlfriend/boyfriend is the best hilarious.

Yeah, you're probably right. There has, after all, been absolutely no hint of that in this thread so I can't imagine why someone would bring it up.

Let's be honest here. The only LI you're allowed to like 100% of the time is Garrus. I've even gotten death threats on this very site for saying that I like Jacob's romance.

Because any sort of slightly visible preference instantly becomes an intolerable offense if a radical disagrees (because, of course, no one else is allowed an opinion contrary to or even differering from their own).

In this case, it happens to be popular opinions painting characters and ideas in a bad light, regardless of the reasons or justifications behind someone's preference.

Ashley by far is my favorite Character. Her personality just appealed to me, and I agree with most of her views. I also like Miranda's romance, and she is also one of my favorite characters. Liara, and Tali were awful in my opinion.

None of the male love interests were all that great, so I picked Garrus's as the one I like the most. Jacob was just awkward, and all the males (excluding Garrus) pouted like little kids when they were talking, and seemed so trite. Jacob flung off the wall at times, and Thane/Kaiden were such sad sods that it just made me sick to hear their issues. They were real issues too, but the tones of voice and the words they chose just made me feel apathetic towards them.

For reference, I am male and 17 years of age.

I think this thread was a good idea. It shows that one's station in life has some bearing on the character types one favors. One person's "boring, whiney" is another person's "deep, layered", just as one person's "badassss!" is another person's "tired cliché".

We Ancient Ones know that someday you young people will understand just why we don't share your tastes, and often disparage them. As we age, our priorities change. They just do. What seems exciting in youth often seems tiresome and silly upon reflection later in life.

I suppose much of my disdain for certain character types stems from my perception that people should be able to see through those characters' hooks, and not fall for them so blindly. When I play any game, I often find myself looking at the characters thinking "okay that one was created for this demographic, that one was created for this other demographic". I then make the informed decision whether to buy in to the character, knowing full well whether or not they were designed specifically to appeal to me. Some people seem to think that their adoration of a given character is 'just because'. No it isn't. A lot of research went into getting you to have that exact visceral reaction, don't kid yourself.

Here's an example. When I first saw Samara I assumed by her appearance that she was fetish-bait for the boys, but as I interacted with the character I realized that there was a good deal more to her, and that in spite of her appearance, she was actually created for MY demographic (older females) to relate to. That was a pleasant surprise, I had thought that I was hopelessly beyond the horizon of the developers' intent. I recognized that Samara was intended to be the antithesis of Liara, and I really liked the way she was written, and she became my favorite character. I identify more strongly with Samara than any other character in the game, except maybe for Dr. Chakwas (her being human and whatnot). Unlike a lot of people, I don't see myself as Shepard in the game. Shepard might be the main character in the story, but Shepard is not 'me'. I've never played any Shepard as an avatar of myself in the game. If I see myself in the game at all, it would be through a character like Samara or Dr. Chakwas.

Really? WOW. That's lame.

I think Jacob gets hit harder than he should. Sure, the developers missed some opportunities with the character, but he's a stand-up guy who is loyal to Shepard even if she does come on a bit strong at times. He should get props for that at least.

EDI is seriously lacking in the sexy ass department.

Also, I will say that I think Jacob is one of the best-looking characters in the game. They kinda screwed up some of his facial animations, but when he is not speaking he looks really good. He's got the best body of all the males, that's for sure. ;)
