17 years old, (5 months until 18), voted for Tali. Reading the thread, it's nice to see some people acknowledge that not all Tali fans are raving lunatics. Siansonea II, especially.

I don't like any of the other LIs for reasons. Tali is closest to my own personality, and yes, if it came down to it I'd say I like her body style. The Quarians as a whole have developed to be my favorite race. Turians come next, if it matters.

I've only posted in the Migrant Fleet of Tali Fans thread twice, and since then have not gone back to post, only entering the thread once to see that they surpassed 10,000 pages. I consider myself as a Tali fan sane and rational, the people in that thread post constant garbage that weaken any (regular) Tali fan's good name.

I don't really quite care if you start claiming I go for Tali because I'm some absent-minded teenager. Believe what you want, that's not the truth, and I'd be glad to argue it.

I'm 20 years old and I can quite honestly say Tali is my favorite love interest.

This whole situation may sound odd, but I find it an interesting character study. On my first playthrough I romanced Miranda because she looked good. However once I saw the romance scene I was a bit shocked that there wasn't any real character development for her there. So I decided to look up the other two endings and I noticed that both Tali and Jack had a lot of character development tied to their romances. If I had to rank the most significant to the least I'd say; Jack, Tali, Miranda.

When I played the second time I decided to analyze the conversations and figure out who I actually liked best as a character. Personally I found Miranda's false self esteem and emotional cover ups quite similar to that of teenage girls. She's somewhat shallow and even after her loyalty mission she's still covering her emotions. Jack's general personality is too abrasive. While I do understand it I just don't like it. No matter how much her romance softens her up she will always be vulgar and combative. Tali has had 2 whole games to develop as a character, and as far as I can tell she is the one who seems to appreciate and care about Shepard the most.

That being said I always felt romances seemed a bit out of place compared to the rest of the game, but I would never skip it because that's missing part of the narrative. So I picked Tali due to characterization mostly. She's a well made character with 3 opinions (I don't like the Geth, I have to help my people, and I am a Shepard fangirl) instead of 1 opinion (Miranda, Cerberus is great; Jack Cerberus can go to hell).

I have no idea if this makes me a Talmancer or not because I never posted in that migrant fleet thread. I'm just curious about what kind of friction will occur between Tali and Liara in the third game.

Maybe its the suits....

but seriously age may play a factor in the level of enjoyment you get from the game I'm sure when they made each character they were thinking of age so someone could enjoy any character they came across and relate to them.

Like when I think of Anderson I think of a dad older players might enjoy this

While when I think of Tali and judging by her voice she's at least 24 - 25 years old in ME2 I relate to her based on my age she would be considered a peer in that way but Anderson viewing him as a father figure means he gets treated in my dialogue options as such and is entitled to the up-most respect

I gave him the job of councilor as a thankyou for his bravery in helping me with the Normandy if he'd been younger I may not have done that.

Each character in the game is aged differently to give the player a chance to look at themselves and those around them and make the call based off their own experiences and moral characters.

If you're younger you may be more rash if you're older you will consider all possible consequences before selecting the answer.

For whatever it's worth, I'm a guy, 26 years old and five years ago when I was single, wasn't shopping for women- if you catch my drift.  There's a point to that information, I promise.

I mention that last bit because I picked Tali as my mShep's LI. Why? I haven't played the first game, but she was an instant favorite (along with Garrus) because she comes off as a sweetheart. Miranda struck me as too full of herself- which would be okay if she could also loosen up and joke about it like Garrus tends to- and Jack...Jack. I love the character, even down to her shaved head and ink, but there was just something about Tali that struck me as incredibly kind, as well as tenacious and strong. Dunno. If it was a mind trick on BioWare's part- and I am in no way disagreeing that it was- they did a good job of it! I hadn't read anything about the game beforehand and remember thinking "damn, she seems cool- I wish she could be on the team" during that first colony mission.

In fact, I really like all of the quarians, even that old crank Zaal'Koris. I think that it was Tali who set the stage for that.

Of course, I voted for Garrus (and yeah, had my femShep romance him...Jacob got boring with his "we got a goooood thing, Shepard..." and the hallucinogenic lizard, just, yeah...no) in the female LI poll and Legion in the non-LI poll.

No doubt there's some nitpicking to be had in this little post of mine, but I thought the demographic info may prove interesting to some.  My point was that even though I'm probably not the target they had in mind when creating Tali, i.e. straight male under age 25, I found her extremely likeable and could easily sympathize with her.

[edited for clarity and still full of fail]

I thought this particular pair of results was interesting.  Jack jumps from least favorite among males to the favorite of females (though its a dead heat with Liara) as a love interest.  Tali drops from 1st to 4th.  Liara and Ashley remain in relatively the same places.  Just hints at a possibly interesting differnce between the female love interest in between the genders.  Wish there was a much bigger response to make things clearer.

Results of the Non-Romanceable Characters and Demographics Poll as of 400 Votes
Note: Because I ran out of space for my poll selections, the selections for Kasumi and Zaeed were truncated and Wrex got the shaft altogether. It is very sad. But anyway, in references to anything age-related, the votes discount Kasumi and Zaeed as if they weren't a part of this poll. 400 votes altogether. 322 without Kasumi and Zaeed.

I think Kasumi looses a bit due to the fact it's a payed DLC, that should be taken in consideration. (Same for Zaeed if some don't have Cerberus Network).

That's why I chose those two specifically to truncate considering I was limited to how many options I could put on the poll. But looking back on it, maybe I should have left them off altogether and used their slot for Wrex. Keep DLC out of it then.

I might return to this, make it a much larger survey about all things in the game, not just the characters. See how one's age and gender truly do affect the game. Though how you live your life could affect decisions as well. So many factors. :P

I was very surprised that Mordin didnt get many votes. Before I thought that majority liked him. I guess I was wrong :)

As about Tali, I voted for her (almost 26) but not because she is cool or something, but because others sucked more than her. And Quarians just cool in general.

Btw Pacifen if you gathering the date for some analysis then please dont forget to post the results of it. My currently tired brain can hardly calculate a square root of 4. :)

For these polls, I don't think I'm going to do any more analysis than what I've already posted. The sample size is just too small for anything else. Some of the data was what I expected, but some of it was actually a small surprise. Liara and Ashley had a strong showing next to their ME2 counterparts. There is a noticeable difference in preferred female love interests when you compare the male and female vote. There was a more even split between male and female voters for the male love interests poll. Jack didn't score as high as I would have thought. Kaidan scored much higher than I would have thought. Mordin and Legion are so very close.

Jack performed more or less as I'd expected in the poll. Better than I'd expected in some ways. I'd gone in thinking that there would be perhaps an even greater devide between age groups, genders and liking for Jack more than any other character (yes, it's a sweeping statement to make, but I'm an old lady with a teenage boy of my own and I fully expected the younger male audence to vote with their eyes and their hormones and hop on the Miranda bus). What this really proved to me that character really was a lot more important to those doing the voting. Tali and Liara's positioning was more or less a given based upon the size of their fanbase (even though this really is only a small section of available gamers), but seeing Jack up there for the ladies... very pleased, especially considering that only just under a quarter of voters were female.

From my contact with the other gay girls on the BSN, I'd have to say that Jack coming top amongst women responding to this poll doesn't come as any surprise.

Agreed, 'Canny, but I think a fair slice of it is the pleasant surprise of having a strong, opinionated, certainly not whiter-than-white female character that isn't some bouncy, sexy little twit a'la Lara Croft that is made to visually appeal almost completely to a male audience. Plus Jack has vulnerabilities without compromising her character... it's certainly not a common thing to find in videogames. I'd expected her to do well, not to just ride roughshod over the rest of the field - especially in comparison to characters that had a previous game under their proverbial belts to carry fandom and loyalty over from.

I voted for Mordin. :D I think he is a character that everyone likes but not with a passion. (Possibly because he's not a "tough as nails" kind of guy,  but his intelligence makes him much more unique in my opinion . :D)

Now what I'm curious if a player's favorite character reflects on their personality. For example: people who like Tali are more shy, people who like Jack are more aggressive, ect.

I like Jack - life's a b*tch and so am I ;)

No, seriously, I like Jack and while I am assertive, argumentative and confrontational at times, I felt more of a draw to the character because I wanted to mother her. I'm not sure how far that line of questioning would go, because everyone will have favorites for really varied reasons. It might be fun to find out, but I'd expect no great correlation between character personalities and players that liked them.

You bring up a good point. Maybe a favorite character doesn't reflect a person's personality but I do believe that a favorite character does reflect something in us personally.

Like for me, I really like Thane because as conflicted as he was about his son, he really did care for him. That relationship with his son was something that I really wish I had with my own father.

Female here, and always romance Jack when playing a male Shepard. I don't like Miranda- maybe it's the eye-roll factor for the sprayed on suit, camel-toe and giant butt in my face all the time, but she's the obvious eye candy for male gamer character, and so I avoid her like the plague. That kind of obvious hurts my brain. Jack appealed to me because she was the outcast, and as a chick gamer and longtime DnD player, etc, I grok. Like many others, I hated her at first sight, because she was so argumentative and in-your-face. But she grew on me quickly once I started to interrogate her- and, let's face it, that's what we do, interrogate in a friendly manner. AND there's a heck of a payoff if you paragon-mance her.

No problem with Tali here. I just see her as a little sister type and probably wouldn't be interested in her if I was a guy. She's sweet. But heck, I also like Zaeed. Strong personalities are fascinating to me.
