Will the *music* behind DA2 feel different?

DAO, as expected had a very BG2-Tolkeinish feel too it.  Standard to what you would expect in a typical fantasy setting

We know the graphic art direction is spinning off to its own, but will the soundtrack behind it follow?

I think you hear a little of it in the Games Informer video posted on another thread.

So... like that.

How does music feel Tolkienish? I'm curious about that considering Tolkien didn't have anything to do with music as far as I'm aware.

Did you consider to make some very classic-like or piano/violin solo music to certain aristocratic or merchant houses/palaces/gardens ?

I could have sworn that was from DAO.

Judging by David's answer there I don't think he's exactly completely in the loop of the various music styles and tracks that will be used throughout the game.

A lot of the tracks from DA:O's OST sounded very similar  to music featured in the LOTR movies, that's what he was referring too, I think.

While having Inon Zur was great, his work for Throne of Bhaal is nothing short of epic, I think having Michael Giacchino this time would be good too. Just listen to his work for Star Trek, epic.

I guess it has not changed much.

Any hint on whether the "In Uthenera" style of vocals will return?

If DA:O had an aural signature, I would say it was that vocal line. I'm really hoping they'll get the same singer back.

Just keep Marilyn Manson far, far away from Dragon Age 2 and the music will be fine. That's all.

I think I just found a cool remix for the credits (credits music doesn't have to be of the same style as the typical ingame music)

Inon Zur is a fantastic composer, but DAO's music (while being great) is not his best work. I like the music of Icewind Dale 2 much much better (also done by him).

I agree, can't say I'm a fan of that type of music.

Feeling very obtuse, but when they say "metal"...exactly what do they mean? I have a sneaking suspicion that I hope is paranoia.

Don't worry, metal comes in many forms, not everything sounds like Marylin Manson.

Seems to me that he was talking about sound effects, NOT about the soundtrack if that was your fear.

Yup. Folk metal would fit in well with fantasy. It'd fit better than alternative rock anyway.

He was. I thought it was pretty explicit when they started talking about the swords ringing more and that kind of thing.

Very true. The Targos Town theme still sends shivers down my spine everytime I listen to it. Aubrey Ashburn did a fine job providing the vocals for DA:O though, I'd like to hear her return for DA2.

MM song was only in 1 trailer an 30 seconds to mars song played during endgame credits. Do people really care about that THAT much? Personally I don't care what music they put in trailers or credits as long as I like the ingame music.

I'm hoping we get to hear the song that played at the end of the podcast, the song could play in the main menu or something. I really liked it.
