Monthly CC Challenge

Genies, magic carpets, etc; This is an idea inspired by the nice tileset made by Zwerkules in the Oriental challenge.
Creatures: genies, CEP included all kind of genies in D&D but in my opinion most of them don't look very nice; Also any other creature from AD&D "Al-Qadim" campaign would be nice...
Tilesets: We have some Arabian cities like Zwerkules' city; But there is other nice Arabian backgrounds, for example Arabian interiors, with lots of decoration. Also additions for existing tilesets could be nice, for example some Arabian cities tilesets included ships, but i think that any of them had included a truly Arabian ship like the medieval arb-ship "dhow" with the typical triangular sails...
Arabian style heads also would be nice, we don't have too much of this...
And as usually: Arabian armors, clothes, weapons, placeables, and any other stuff....

There's been a fairly working Drider phenotype on the Vault for, pfoah... Couple of years now? And I don't think many people ever knew about it
Does look to use the animations from Luna_C and H20rat's driders, if you know the ones
Dunno if people prefer it as a phenotype or to work into an all new creature set (What with the phenotype limits this disabling horses at the moment), but its there if people never knew about it

Whew-doggies! I'm always glad to see new ideas and I like most of those.
But I'd like to ask two things:
First: "***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***"
Second: Could you trim that list to your favorite 3? Making a poll that has a hundred entries just wont work ;-/ In fact, our procedure is that orphaned topics can't even return to the poll unless there are less than 10 active themes to vote on :-P
You can always add another new theme next month, and the month after, ad naseum :-)
In regards to Lost civilizations, although not *quite* the same, we did do an Ancient Civilizations.
WRT Dungeon Gear/dressings, perhaps combine them into a "classic Dungeon Crawl" theme. That is, try not to be *too* focused, so that content is limited. If the theme was Gear, then that pretty much rules out creatures and tilesets, among others. Make sense?
WRT Carriages, et al, I'd think that was covered pretty well by the Sea, Air, Land travel theme.
What do you think?

What do you think of...
Player Customization:
Models, visual effects (beards & mustaches, jewelry, scars/tattoos) that modify how the PC looks and phenos that change the way they move. Scripts and widgets that allow in-game modifications. New races, classes, feats. Items with applied visuals like a smoking pipe or a golden nose-ring.
Edit: Tails & wings... ;-)

For the aligned visuals (bears, jewelry, etc.), everyone would need 12 default heads to work with, since not all visual effects will line up with all heads. Helmets and headbands work pretty well for many heads, but closer things like jewelry, hair, scars, etc. would need to be a bit more exacting, I think.Rolo Kipp wrote...

Still, I like the idea.
And more wings and tails are always good.

Those standard heads would also need to be bald :-P
And the VFX-based hair would need variety in colors (real *flaming* red hair? Hmmm... ;-)
But, yeah, that's the idea.

Artifacts and Relics: Unique items from legend and lore, of great power and/or cultural importance.
Deities and Demigods: All Things Divine, avatars, exalted servants, items (once) owned/granted by the gods, divine boons, beings cursed by the gods (gorgons/medusa/minotaurs), Content from Immortal Ruleset/Primal Order
Gothic: Elegant and spooky, ravenloft/addams family/world of darkness, stylistic and art neveau, ornate black iron works, stained glass, stone gargoyles, ornate cemetaries/crypts. Themes of romance and tragedy, or "a ray of light in the darkness." Can be humerous as long as its ironic/morbid humor
Heaven and Hell: Celestial Angels, Infernal Devils, thier homes, servants, residents of thier lands, blessings/boons, holy/unholy weapons armor and other trappings, lords and ladies of heaven and hell.
Lost and Forgotten: Lost cities, lands, and societies, Dead Gods and Vestiges of lost faiths, dangerous ruins and ancient treasures, cursed or degenrate races, creatures long thought extinct in civilized lands.
Oldschool: Anything from 0e (chainmail, blackmoor, greyhawk, etc suppliments), Judges Guild, Content from Articles from gaming magazines (such has White Dwarf, Dungeon, Dragon, Polyherdron, The Stragegic Review, The Oerth Journal), Basic/Expert/Companion/Master/Immortal Rules, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1e and 2e, the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon, DnD Toys/Figurines/Boardgames and anything else that didnt make it into 3.0. Could also be things based off earlier version artwork, say 1st edition such-and-such monster, things from illutrations by classic artists like Erol Otus, Jeff Dee, and the rest...
Steampunk: Clockwork and Steam-powered Inventions, Mechanical Wings & Prostetics, Specticles (oft with extra lenses) , monacles, eyepieces, goggles, Victorian/Industrial Era Clothing, Automatons, Almost anything from Arcanum CRPG or Dave Arneson's Clock and Steam, Myst or Thief series. (Magic may exsist, compete with or suppliment tech, but not to the extent of the pure fusion of say technomancy, here renissasnce/victorian/early-industrial science takes the forefront)
Technomancy: were magic and machine meet, such as Mystaran Blackmoor, Warhammer40k, Spelljammer, Sons of Ether, Wizardry CRPG Series, Rifts Atlantis, Final Fantasy Series (esp later games)
Weird Science: Mad Scientist Lab Dressings, Strange Inventions and Specimens, Vivisections and other Creations (Mongrel Men, Owlbears etc)
Wizard's Mistake: Wild Magic Effects, Magical Creatures not meant to be (mud men), Insane Items, spells gone wrong, Mis-enchantments and other (un)happy accidents...
(if you nominate any of these suggestions, fell free to edit/rewrite descriptions to whatever seems most fitting for challenge)
If i had to pick a top 3 offhand, id say, Artifacts and Relics, Gothic, Steampunk, tho some of the others could be a ton of fun for ppl too...

Apparently its going well on its second year (wow!), maybe we should do something special? Speaking of that, a while ago Mistress spoke about a yearly compilation. Any news on that? (Did I missed it?)
Maybe that would be a nice gift/celebration to do to the community =)
Thoughts, ideas? (and sorry if I'm unearthing old cadaver

Spells and Spellcrafting:
New spells, new spell effects, spell crafting items and placeables, wizard/alchemist tiles, Spell-related creatures - familiars, homunculus, experiments and specimens...
I'll be adding it to the August poll.
Hey, Carcerian! Pick another one from your Long List of Things to Make. I'll add that too :-)

I'm putting together a CC Makers special project page on the Vault and I'd like those valuable Comments/Concerns/Suggestions :-)
The CC Maker's Reference project will attempt to be a "one-stop" center for getting into making custom content. It will have links (as the great thread here does) to tools and tutorials. It will also try to collect specific reference material for the CCC such as OTR's Deer Pack and the Reference Heads TAD, Rubies & I are putting together (Rubies already has the human heads, med. poly models done and is working on the textures. TAD has a full set of low-poly heads done... somewhere. I have... a stubborn nature ;-P <word> ).
I'm also hoping to include content-specific reference textures (like TAD's item textures he recently put on the Vault). Putting together something like "The Reptile texture pack" or the "Stone Ruins texture pack" would provide a more consistent appearance and level of quality to CCC stuff, and allow people to contribute from their strength, rather than try to come up with everything from scratch. I.e. if they enjoy modeling, but hate creating textures let them have a library of CCC textures. If they enjoy 2D art, give them dear, er, deer models to try their hand at skinning.
Bits of what I'm proposing have been done and seems quite redundant, but when someone asks "How do I get started?" it would be nice to say "start with this..." <you mean, like how you always say "start with the ccg v3.0?>
Er, yes. Like that... *scowls*

Ok, compiled TAD's low-poly VFX template heads into a 3DS Max 2010 scene and created the foundation "CC Maker's Reference" project on the Vault to upload it to. I really wanted to at least get the basics in place so new Makers can try new things in the PC Customization theme... which I feel coming up fast ;-)
I don't suppose one of our better tutorial writers want to tackle the tute for making Head-aligned VFX the easy (-ier) way? Tutorials are *not* my strong point :-P
When I have gone through his bald heads pack, I'll put together a Reference Heads hak as well.
When Rubies signs off on the mid-poly human heads (they are looking *so* cool!) I'll add them as well.

Ok, we've had a motion and a second to have an East Coast vs West Coast CC face-off.
Discussion (please join in):
These things take time, so I propose said hypothetical conflict be scheduled... <quit with the fancy words, would ya, boss?>
Ah-hem. Let's do this at years-end. Better? <yup>
It should be something that adds to and highlights the Custom Content for the year. <mods. demo mods>
I was *getting* to that, bird. <slowpoke>
Ok, what I'm proposing is forming up two teams to produce demo mods for two different months content. The mods will be reviewed and voted on in the following three categories:
- "oh, neat!" - The neat idea category, like OTR's ship in a bubble or TAD's faerie stones.
- "Wow!" - The Wow factor, something that just makes you stop and look/listen and absorb it all.
- "What fun!" - How much you enjoy playing the mod.
What do you guys think?<chartreuce & puce>
No. <why not?>
Just... no. <grump>
<...would make terrible team colors>

Module Building Challenge
Rules:
(1) Must use a Community Content Challenge HAK.
(2) The CCC HAK is predetermined before module start and available on the vault. Perhaps this would be all the CCC content made in 2011 or before 2012. Or some such thing. Whatever makes the most sense and is an unchanging HAK.
(3) (possible option) The module may have one additional HAK. The content of this additional HAK is limited to 2DA files, blueprints, and palette files. (the point is no additional art assets or modifications, no tileset changes etc...)
(4) Module does not make use of add-ons like NWNX, NWShader etc... The point is for any visitor to the vault to be able to download the module and hak, play it, and see everything that you intended.
(5) Module must be submitted by a particular date. One month would be very difficult, but could make this very fun as well.
(6) All contributors to the project are credited. If you download a code package from the vault, you provide a link to the package (and hopefully left a comment on the vault entry).
Purpose:
Fun and highlighting the stuff made by all the wonderful artists in this community.
Ideas:
