@Mecheon: good idea. Too late for September but I'm keeping it for October. Underwater Exploration that'll be =)

Hey people, the votes are strangely close. We need more votes please!

BTW I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to rename the Challenge something like "Modelling challenge" since we're obsiously focused on that, and CC is way much more and diverse than modelling. Thoughts?

I'd like to see organic underwater objects too. Coral that looks real, or sunken city structures encrusted with barnacles.

I'd leave it as it is, personally, just because a modeler wouldn't be turned away by a "CC challenge," while someone interested in CC in general might be turned away by a "modeling challenge." Unless every challenge will require modeling, in which case it does make sense to rename it.

Another thought: perhaps stress again that the challenge is open to modders of all abilities? The turn-out for August seems to've been pretty good, but it wasn't really a learning process for most of us(?), and it'd be nice to see some less experienced modders (or even complete beginners) having a go.

I'd definitely vote for an underwater themed challenge, Jen!

Agreed with Ben on not changing the name.

Also, I'd add that the initial challenge *was* a learning experience for me, as I'd never made a placeable before and had to figure out .pwk as well as use/attack nodes and destruction animations.

Thanks for adding me to your blocked list jez .Now i cant vote.I dont really like you to much either so i guess were on the same page.Although i think its nonsense doing such things when you dont even know me but disliked one topic.Maybe you can come around with a apology to fix things up.

Anyways...id like to vote for a holy symbol on a rope that is holdable in a players hand and dangles about a foot down from his hand with the symbol at the bottom of the rope.

Or a bandage for a players forearm armor slot.

@Builder_Anthony: Well I had to test the block feature of these forums, and you seemed like the perfect test subject (for me), but obviously this feature is lacking. You take it way too personal or emotional. I choose to block you because I'd prefer to just not see your posts, but that's just me. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. So, since my wish wasn't to forbid you to vote on a community topic, I unblocked you, please vote.

Anyways, people, the votes really aren't representing the expressed opinions here. Pirates are the lead now? Any thoughts on that?

I am hugely in favor of Commoner Clothing. It would help tremendously to the atmosphere of modules/PWs. It's always been a chore trying to decide which NPC looks the LEAST lame when trying to paint one. Also, it would give players more options in their clothing.

I wish the themes would be more global so even non modeller could join the challenge with scripts/prefabs maybe?

Well I see the Pirates theme still has a slim lead (one vote), and I say we could use some more Piratey items. Such as Cutlasses, Rapiers, Scimitars even. Or heck, why not flintlock pistols or blunderbusses and muskets. Maybe even shipboard placeables. And for those wanting to do prefabs, who said CC had to mean modelling only, a nice little Pirates' Cove would be a wonderful addition. And for those more energetic souls, how about some bigger ships. I always thought the NWN ships were a tad on the small side.

Just my two cents... Thanks for reading...

Well, I voted for Field Hospital/injury stuff, but pirate related stuff would be pretty cool too. So, if that's the case, then I can think of quite a few ideas.
How about adding a walkable plank to a ship? Could make the edge trigger to splash you to an underwater area.
How about making a genuine Jolly Roger flag, hoistable?
How about making a shoulder pad that thinks it's a parrot?
How about more creatures from the deep, such as octopi, squid, whales, dolphins, and schools of flying fish?
How about a ghost ship, a la the Flying Dutchmen (or the Black Pearl to you newcomers)?
How about adding cannons and cannon-ports to the side of a ship?
How about making climbable rigging? Walkmesh trickery required...
How about making new tattoos, like anchors, skulls, and 'Mom-in-a-heart'?
How about modifying some heads to include a few gold teeth, some piratey beards, etc.?
How about modifying some heads to include a pipe clenched in the teeth, or even a dagger?

Arrr, that be enough fer now, ye bloated bilge rats! I'm shovin' off!

The pirates theme is actually really versatile - thanks for showing that, JFK! And yes, I don't see why a prefab couldn't be an entry. :-) Or a script, though I can't think of anything scripty that screams "Pirate!" off the top of my head...

Lol - I have a script on the Vault (old entry from 2004) that'd probably qualify.

http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=2382Click Here

I could imagine a piratey game of find the buried chest o' pieces of eight, using in-game clues on a map or otherwise, like "Five strides of a tall half-orc, due west from the gnarled oak, blackened by lightning. From there . . .".

Could make a cool mini-game maybe.

Let's not forget that Pirates of the Sword Coast included (not surprisingly) lots and lots of pirate related custom content. This includes several of the items JFK mentioned above. And several other things on that list have been released by other community members.

Not to say that it wouldn't make a valid challenge, but tons of pirate related content is in fact already available for Neverwinter Nights.

Parrot as a shoulder piece!

Actually, doing that would be very easy using Bioware's parrot placeable from POTSC. Even a non-modeler like me could do it. That would look fine when the person is standing still or walking, but it would probably look quite silly during certain combat animations.

Maybe for you, but not for the many peoples around. I think this would be awesome, I would like to learn this, I have some idea, but I woul rather see exact steps than trying and learning by my mistakes.

Besides, the standard of quality in the last challenge, even from relative newcomers to custom content, has been above most of what Bioware put out for PotSC.

The first post said all submissions must be original work (no conversion or modifications), so I think that rules out any kind of emphasis on prefabs, which by definition are recombinations of existing assets. I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, but it's not really the same thing.

I prefer new content over modifications of existing work. It doesn't really add much to the community art portfolio, so to speak, and doesn't push people to get better.

OK, I got a problem with this vote. The winning categories both involve clothing. Making clothes for characters is a pain in the butt, which is why almost no one makes any. Lisa, Ragz, and CODI were the only people to really make new clothing (i.e. not just reskin some old ones).

Being that this is a fledgling enterprise, I highly suggest you don't include categories that scare of new modelers.

Well there's still a day left. Although I personally would go for the pirate content rather than ignoring the vote - there's far more to being a pirate than just putting on a silly costume you know, and a lot more scope for other types of content.

I agree that clothes are a pain. But in fact it's a pain if you want to try a whole set, a full body ensemble. But you can do also just a pair of shoes, or gloves, or a neck piece, a belt, bracers.... actually there is a lot of cool stuff to do without going in the alienist robe direction. A single piece is not hard to do. I think one of the challenge is also to be creative in a way that fits your own skill. It hasn't to be a masterpiece.

But still the whole pheno/race thingy is quite the chore...

Anyways, I'd rather bypass the vote and have submissions rather than sticking to the vote and no one making stuff. So, participant, express yourselves. It's supposed to be fun before anything else.

If the winning theme is pirates and let people submit anything pirate related, then I'd be happy with that. I'll still try my hand at a pirate clothes set, however.
