While taking a month off could prove useful, I think something else that might help is if others lean toward my thinking on this sort of thing...

For a compilation project like this on a short time-frame...don't take on something that will take tons of hours of work. Sure, my only contribution so far has been the parrots, but they took one day of work (working around my raising of my kids). Simple, nice looking, but definitely not groundbreaking or extensive. I could see doing several tiles (but not an entire tileset) or a few body parts (but probably not an entire body's worth) or a nice helmet or two (but not a whole collection of a dozen helms)... I think moderation is key for a time-limited challenge such as this. Quality over quantity from individual content makers. That sort of thing. :)

Just my two coppers.

Personally, I'd find that quite welcome. But the fact that I tend to fall behind need not hold everyone else back.

Respectfully, The Amethyst Dragon, I'm going to leave out your "Poor Folk Stuff" suggestion for a bit. That is a bit too close to the Commoner's theme from October. I’ve sent questions for clarifications out to Olivier and Tarot Redhand on their suggestions. Silly me, I should have done THAT sooner!

Well, since only Este spoke up, she got to pick for all of us. I'll post the current poll winner "New Helms, Hats, Hoods, Hair Accessories, or other head decorations" hopefully later today with a deadline for the end of Feb, not the end of Jan. This might be a good idea to plan for again at the end of this year, taking December to wrap up any loose ends, etc.

Since no one jumped up and down with delight, or any other form of feedback *grins*, I'll skip doing the year in review combination hak. HOWEVER!! Do feel free to send in any updates, tweaks, adjustments, etc to your contributions. That is what this extra time is for. I'll update the individual month's page on the vault with your new goodies.

*Coughs loudly and puts a big flashing lights sign next to The Amethyst Dragon’s two coppers.* ;)

As requested from a pm discussion with TheSpiritedLass I do have a suggestion for a future topic. This one is called 'Surprise Me'. Basically the idea is for everyone who submits work, to make something that has never been made for NWN before.

How about a "machines" theme. Any crazy contraptions, gizmos, doodads that might be useful for something. I know those gnomes have created more than just a "gnomish contraption" since nwn came out.
Things like:

-Mechanical horse
-Wagon car
-An elevator that would fit nicely into some of the small intererior rooms

etc..

Oooh, so much excellent options to choose from already (I'm particularly intrigued by the 'Surprise me' theme) - is it really necessary to add another?
Oh, what the heck, nothing beats your personal interests. I think what NWN is really lacking so far, despite all of the wonderful Oriental tileset, heads and placeable stuff, are creatures that fit an Oriental setting, monsters from Asian mythology. We've got the CCP behir that could pass off as a Chinese dragon with some imagination, we've got an ogre magi with naginata and we've got the splendid kappa included in ProjectQ. And that's that. :(

What about onis, tengus, otoroshis, hengeyokais and all kinds of other bakemonos? Real Chinese dragons and ghosts? Ok, I admit this theme is quite particular but who knows, chances are I'm not the only one wishing for it, and it would be a real challenge, something out of the box.

And if "creatures" is too special as a theme, I'd be happy with anything Oriental that complements what's already there (but creatures really are needed the most).

I'd actually love the machines theme - it's something I've never worked on, and never even thought about working on, but now that I think about it there's a ton of stuff I'd like to do! :P

OK need another theme? What about "Gnomish Madness". You know the sort of thing I mean. Sort of Heath Robinson strikes back. :P The Gnome flinger is a dead cert (try the module 'Snichersnsck' if you don't think so) but what about other outlandish tinker gnome contraptions? This is not limited to Krynn either. Arcane space sees to that.:alien:

Right well I think that about takes you up to about 2014 with suggestions now.

greetings all!

i have to say, despite how old nwn1 is, that it is going stronger than ive ever imagined it to be... id never thought id play a game as unique as neverwinter... and yet here i am 6 years later and im stil playing te same game!

most especialy to all who contribute to the community... and this whole monthly challenge just really gets me going and wanting to play even more :3

i have nothing for new future ideas atm... with exception to the newest challenge: "hats, helms, hair, head, decor" challenge thats commign up...

i for one would absolutly enjoy seeing new cloak-style hats, they are so versatile and works really well! **since I cant seem to post on the actual threads im hoping that this will catch someones attention**... id certainly would like to see more victorian, or perhaps maybe even some napoleonic or colonial hats/hair pieces (i never imagined why no one ever made a wig hat yet :-|

i doubt these links will work but each below is one to a hat image

That would be neat. For those using planescape, a mechanus theme?

I'd like to suggest halflings as a theme. Yeah, just anything for halflings. People tend to ignore them when it comes to custom heads and whatnot.

i llike that idea, maybe some real halfling homes for tileset designed for the rural. i think we could use an updated version like what L.o.W has for his seasonal forest set...

and Since it was brought up... ive got a good idea for a Mechanus Theme, i seem to notice a lack of Airships. Since we have only one type on the nwnvault, everyone seems to just stick that one in every tileset... we might as well have different types since someone made one for the community... it would be great for say a much more fantasy driven need?

i think it would grab more attention to a world being able to fly around in airships... as one of the things ive noticed that most players who dont play nwn1... are more attracted towards a "Final Fantasy" theme... or as i like to call a "crystal fantasy" (ie: The neverending story movie, towering crystal spires, etc) as i admit i am too!

In contrast to the Machines theme, I suggest an Organic theme. This could be anything from a bunch of nature placeables, to weather vfx, to animal AI, to whatever you feel like as long as it is in a fluid and naturalistic style.

lol @ _Six... but i second that to the Organic Theme... maybe someone could finaly make a rain vfx Object for everyone to use :3 or perhaps a better version of the 1.69 bird "flying" vfx that no one ever seems to know about...

Wow, lots more new suggestions for this month. Here is a summary, just to make sure I have everyone’s suggestions from this thread, poll comments and PMs. If you don’t see your recent suggestion listed here, let me know real, REAL soon. There are a few with pending clarifications, if that is the case, there is a note about it after the summary of the theme.

Ancient Egypt Religious items – Pharaoh's crown and wands, Tombs Paintings, Temple gods statues. (Suggested by Garbage Master, PM sent to see if this was a new suggestion or a specific suggestion for the Religious items and symbols theme.)

The art of deception - 2d in a 3d world - Rugs, Tapestries, Pictures, Fake Stuff (Walls, Cracks, etc), Fissures, Footprints, Blood Trails, Semi-Transparent Ground Overlays to change the Colour, Small Puddles. I.E. anything that is flat and all the modeling can be easily done with a text editor (fixed size models, just change the bitmap name). The thing is you don't need to be a great artist to produce something that is both flat and others find useful. Just look at my map mats and you'll see that. Heck, I've got all the artistic talent of a brick. (Suggested by Tarot Redhand, added April 2011)

Surprise Me - Basically the idea is for everyone who submits work, to make something that has never been made for NWN before. (Suggested by Tarot Redhand, added April 2011)

Machines - Any crazy contraptions, gizmos, doodads that might be useful for something. I know those gnomes have created more than just a "gnomish contraption" since NWN came out. Things like: Mechanical horse, Wagon car, and an elevator that would fit nicely into some of the small interior rooms. (Suggested by GhostOfGod, added April 2011) – not sure if Tarot’s gnomish madness suggestion is part of this or not – sent a PM asking.

Monsters from Asian Mythology - I think what NWN is really lacking so far, despite all of the wonderful Oriental tileset, heads and placeable stuff, are creatures that fit an Oriental setting. We've got the CCP behir that could pass off as a Chinese dragon with some imagination, we've got an ogre magi with naginata and we've got the splendid kappa included in ProjectQ. And that's that. What about onis, tengus, otoroshis, hengeyokais and all kinds of other bakemonos? Real Chinese dragons and ghosts? (Suggested by olivier leroux, added April 2011)

Not sure if the next 2 are the same thing – sent a PM to Jenna asking.

Oh, I also suggest more heads for our less loved races like halflings and gnomes. (Suggested by Jenna)

Halflings - Yeah, just anything for halflings. People tend to ignore them when it comes to custom heads and whatnot. (Suggested by Jenna WSI, added April 2011) Additional suggestions by oOKyeOo: Maybe some real halfling homes for tileset designed for the rural. I think we could use an updated version like what L.o.W has for his seasonal forest set.

Dwarves and Demi-Humans - I would like to see a Dwarven theme,or maybe a Demi-Human theme in general. (Suggested by Draygoth28, added April 2011)

Organics - Anything from a bunch of nature placeables, to weather vfx, to animal AI, to whatever you feel like as long as it is in a fluid and naturalistic style. (Suggested by henesua, added April 2011)

In your poll, can we vote a second time or edit our vote?

Uhhhhh.... *deer in the headlights* You know... I always just assumed you could only vote once and that the vote wasn't changeable. Guess I better change that to: *ass in the headlights* ;) Is there a way to set such options? Personal opinion here: If so the first should be disabled and the second allowed?

Maybe these additional options could be punted to another time? I don't know maybe it doesn't matter if we add these other items after the voting has already been in progress.

Exactly. These are the options to be added to the NEXT poll. Which will start on the first of the month. There were just a lot of them, from various sources, so I wanted to make sure I got them all. =)

@henesua No worries. Looking back over the first paragraph, I didn't really make it clear, did I? Guess I should have waited a bit longer for that first cup of coffee to kick in. *sassy grin*

In general: *PLEASE* do get on my case if I'm not clear about something.

Starting with this next poll I'll be adding a comment that gives a brief summary of each theme. I'm having trouble finding information on "Magi scrying devices, and wondrous miscellaneous items of power" There is a note that is is from an idea that Styxx42 posted on NWNVault, but I can't seem to find anything. Any insight / summary on this one??

Please pardon my "growing pains", I'm still trying to get the whole CCC thing organized versus a jumble of papers in a pile on my over crowded desk. Suggestions for improvement and 'what the heck were you thinking!?' comments are most welcome.

We probably do need to come up with some method to either combine themes (as Olivier pointed out a while back) or remove themes (*playful wink at FP and his airships* perhaps ones that don't get any votes 2 months in a row?).

Well "scrying" is seeing in to the future (summed up). I have always felt this category (which I vote on typically) reffered to orbs, crystal balls, and other odd looking things that a wizard/sorc/magic user would have lying around thier room: Arcane symbols, rune stones, magic hovering brooms, animated objects, Augra's moving model of The Great Conjunction (read: the movie The Dark Crystal), you know those sorts of things. And everybody wants a room sized placeable of "The Great Conjunction" in there module. I can dream.:wizard:

Also I wouldn't limit this to magic users, Gnomes are known for making wonderous items and machines.
