It worked in that NWN1 expansion, I don't see  why they couldn't use that animation/concept to make horses work

Well it depends entirely on how it's made, it could be a gimmick and make players go around saying "Wow, horses are pointless" (example: Two Worlds) or it might simply drain funding that could be used for something else. As much as I'd like to be riding on a horse in the middle of the Landsmeet, calling out Loghain and such.. I do believe the game as a whole fits more without it.

Damn you made me want to ride into the Landsmeet too, then pickSam (my Dog) for fighting Loghain, and once it is denied, pick the horse for it, just to see the faces of the nobles

If they refused, I'd further prove that Blood Magic is the superior magic and create a Dorse. Half dog, half horse.

Brilliant!

Quickly, contact the dictionary and reserve that name before somebody else names an animal that!

Oh sure, you just wrestled vigorously. Alistair kept using that "thrusting" attack because you stripped him of his sword and shield. The poor guy didn't have any weapons, how else was he supposed to defend himself?

Riding into battle on my faithful steed sounds quite appealing actually. I think it would be a good idea to have an optional horse, maybe even with a chariot? with those blades that stick out of the axel... mowing down hapless darkspawn, blood everywhere, body parts flying... how can this not be a good idea??

i don't know if this was said previously, but when speaking in the dalish camp about the halla, the female elf says how they don't mount and ride halla unlike the humans do with horses

I'd be too upset when the horse died under me, caught by an arrow or stray sword - I'm happy not having horses in DA:O. Yeah, yeah, I know it'd only be pixels, but I'm daft like that.

I think they also say the Orlais Chevalier are mounted knights, and I assume they are mounted on horses, not dinosaurs :(

As if we need further evidence that horses exist in Thedas, particularily in Ferelden, but were seemingly absent from Origins (due to programming/graphical issues, I'm sure), here's another line in reference to riding horses, or well, one would assume Alistair means horses:

"Necessary? Having to relieve yourself after an eight-hour ride is necessary. But there's no excuse for summoning demons!"

I wonder if he inherited Maric's knack for falling off said horses ;)

Horses can be done right, indie developers of Mount & Blade already proved this, if Bioware has issues with implementing them they should just ask for help from those developers or the developers of Assassins Creed.

Horses exist in the game world, we just don't see them.

If you are of the human noble origin, when you talk to the halla tender in the Dalish camp, you can mention that your family raised horses like the Dalish raise the halla. Riordan also mentions that 'several divisions' of Grey Warden cavalry were on their way from Orlais to Ferelden to help combat the Blight prior to Ostagar. I believe Loghain makes reference to this as well at the Landsmeet, though of course he spins it as an Orlesian invasion.

Also there is a class of Orelesians known as the Chevalier. I don't recall if any mention of horses are made while the Chevalier are being discussed, but even if horses aren't mentioned, it's likely the Chevalier ride into combat. It is a French word for a knight or horseman.

And the root of chevalier is cheval. ^^

Horses would be fairly pointless in an RPG like DA.
