I think "combat focused" is not a great way to describe it. It is not Darkspawn Chronicles. It is more in-line with what you would play in DA:O or Awakening, with voiced party member conversations, story, etc. The comment about your companion having a text line is the same ambient dialog system you've seen in DA:O/DA:O-A with all subtitles on (e.g. party banter), but i'm guessing the VO was too low to hear at the show.
But it is purposefully hard - we even added an achievement for beating it on Nightmare - and it is set on a new dwarven thaig. I suspect that's where some of the "combat focused" comments may be coming from.
Am i the only one that thought Nightmare wasnt that hard to begin with? I mean yeah my first run thru on Nightmare (which is how i played from the purchase of the game) i did die a lot in certain areas and took a few deaths each time to figure out exactly what i needed to do to win, but never once have i ever lowered it from Nightmare because of it being "too hard".
Glad to see there's a trophy now for Nightmare. There should have been one in Origins/Awakening for playing your first play thru on Nightmare and never lowering the difficulty during the game. I hope this new Nightmare will be harder than the previous Nightmare lol.

Question for the BioWare brass: Was wondering if the new DLC package is going to be standalone (Darkspawn Chronicles) or is it going to be in-game (like Return to Ostagar)?
Try reading the topic first.

I played it at SDCC and got to ask
a few questions. The BioWare guy said that you can indeed import your
warden. It will be in the "Other Campaigns" like Awakening. I'll also
echo what Joystiq said: It's hard. I'm playing the main campaign on
Nightmare and this DLC kicked my ass on Normal.

Interesting...from the sound of it, that may prove to be one of the most difficult (if not THE most difficult) achievement to unlock in the game.

We'll have a lot more info on this VERY soon - but yes, you will be able to continue your Warden's story (either from Origins or Awakening).
Awesome. You just made my day!

Doesn't anybody know how to read anymore? This is NOT a stand-alone DLC (ie Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song) which has no impact on your Warden. It's an expansion similar to Awakening where you can load your Warden from Origins or Awakening and continue his/her story; your Warden will gain xps, levels and gear. There might, though unlikely, be a hint about previous relationships.
This is exciting news to me! And all for the price of a DLC which typically cost less than $10 though Stone Prisoner was $15 but it was much more immersive.

If that's how it is, then I'm wondering when it'll take place? Guess we'll find out soon enough.Zy-El wrote...

So, can someone say what's in this article? I don't want to see the big spoiler, in case I decide to buy it.
That's kind of an oxymoron question - "can you tell me what's in it but I don't want any spoilers". Anything we tell you would be a spoiler, right?

:/ Hmm...Nah, I'm not going to pick it up until I hear something really good about it. And I have to wonder that with two gaming articles both saying "not a story DLC", how much this game honestly has to it. If there are no companions, I think it'd feel too "stand-alone".
But it's not a stand-alone DLC.
You can import your Warden from Origins or Awakening. Your Warden gains xps, levels and gear. It's an expansion. The only continuity elements that will be lacking are to do with the personal relationships. Maybe they'll deal with that in a real Expansion similar to Awakening's size - it would have to be, I'd think. Who knows? At the rate they're releasing DLC, we might see something like this in the next couple months . . .

DLCs are a money making scam. Neither Return to Ostagar or Warden's Keep take that long to complete. I'm old enough to remember expansions "feeling" like expansions. Awakenings is probably the first expansion that is worth the money -- I don't know. I don't have it. Part of the reason being I don't want to get scammed again. I'm getting a real bad taste in my mouth for DLCs from all game companies and have a hard time supporting them. They seem to be short in nature and add up to a significant amount of money over time. I'd rather pay for a solid expansion that adds hours of additional content than get nickle-and-dimed for mini-content. It just my opinion.

Well what do you know? You just answered my question, at least partially, without the oxymoron snark.
