For every companion who might be added, they have to re-hire the VA to voice lines that may or may not be used. This increases the size and ergo, the cost of the DLC. And cost does matter. Would you pay $20 for a DLC? Well, if it included the RIGHT companion, I would. How does Bioware know which is the RIGHT companion?
Why do they HAVE to add new companions?
I was responding to the previous post by errant who wanted one of the original companions added to the DLC. My question was: which companion do you add? It might be a companion that the player never chose to hire. Bioware would have to VA all the companions in order to cover all the possibilities.
I'm sorry if I snapped above, first of all.
It's not like DLC was a new breakthrough by the time DAO came out. They knew that they would be releasing my DLC. They knew that people play BioWare for its story, its characters, its dialogue--some really like the combat, but, again, that's just not why you buy a BioWare game. And they knew that they had a multitude of companions. These are all things they should have accounted for. I'm not sure what you mean by they have to cover all the bases with character choices. Choices aren't mentioned in the vanilla game very often--and generally there might be one or two extra romantic lines, but that's it.
I mean, I see where you're coming from. The only thing I really want my companions there for is for the feeling that this is a game I've played, this is my Warden in her/his world. They probably don't contribute that much to the story (although I think they missed some cool opportunities with RtO and Alistair, Wynne, or the secret companion).
Honestly, I think the aloe to all of my poo' widdle me burned feelings is a romance DLC. Hell freaking yes. I know they spoke about it at one point, but Jeez Louise would I ever buy that in a heartbeat.
