& I'm not sure why some people in these forums are so uptight about consoles (not saying you, OP) it's ridiculous..

I can only speak for myself, but I'm concerned that this is going to end up like ME2, in that it feels like a port that doesn't properly utilise the strengths of PCs. See here for some of what I'm referring to. Demiurge did a better job on the interface in ME1.

I don't have anything against consoles (I still have 5 older generation consoles, nothing new though), but I'd just like to see them do multiplatform development properly this time. For DA2, I'm worried that we're not going to get same controls and interface as the PC version of DAO.

Exactly my feelings. When I heard BioWare wasdoing the PC port for ME2 I was happy. Yet, just like you said, Demiurge did a much better job with making the PC ME1 actually feel and function like a PC game, while ME2 on the PC feels very much like a console game dropped on to the PC with very littel changes.

Maybe thats not a fair comparison, but given that it seems DA2 is being designed with the consoles in mind, like ME2, its the only comparison I've got until we see some PC footage to prove otherwise.

Probably more annoying with PCs versus consoles is the need to restrict the user from being able to launch anything but the game itself. A PC is much more susceptible to user error than a console.

Mike Laidlaw posted this in the Final Day at Comic Con thread:

"Since there seems to be some concern about lead platform, I can dispel a
myth for you: it's not actually that hard to develop on all three
platforms once you have an engine that actually works on all three
platforms. It's just a matter of ensuring the bug fixes and
optimizations work on all three, and then generating assets that are
both scaleable (as in they can move to be optimized across all three
platforms) and functional.

And since we already HAVE an
engine that works on PS3, PC and 360, we can, in fact, develop on all
three. Dragon Age II is "built," tested and run every day on all three."

Not sure if this helps folks at all, and sadly it doesn't really alleviate fears that they will drop the top down view and toolset etc.

Yeah, I've read the quote, but it doesn't dispel any myth that DA2 isn't being designed to fix the flaws of the console primarily and then porting that version over to the PC- we know the engine works on all 3 platforms. They say they're working on all 3 at the same time, but yet they're also saying the PC and console combat are staying separate entities? Its seems likely they're building DA2 from the ground up on the consoles and then porting it to the PC- the question is, how much work are they putting into the PC version once they've got it on the PC?

WIll DA2 on PC feel like a console port like ME2 or will it feel like a game built from the ground up for the PC like Origins?

I don't interpret it quite that way. I think they're making the major changes to the console version while leaving the PC version alone. I could be wrong, but it sounds like they aren't messing with the PC nearly as much as the console. I just REALLY wish they would come out and say what the differences are between the two versions so we would know for sure, but that isn't likely to happen for a long while.

I mean, they'll be messing with the PC version to an extent- I certainly don't want them to just ignore it all together- there are certainly things that could be fixed there. I'm skeptical that they're just leaving everything alone though on the PC- there are already rumblings the zoomable camera will be replaced with fixed camera angles. And its little things like that, which while maybe not a huge step back, is still a step back if true- and add enough of those little steps back and you've got a weaker PC game.

But I'm more than willing to hear BioWare out on the PC version as things are still really early going. I just want them to be sure to actually show off the PC version and not just hide it away until a couple weeks or months before launch.
