(Spoiler) If you kept Sten with you all through out your game and talked to him at the ending celebration in Denerim, you know that he went back to his people a champion (with or without the sword). Though he also said he knew his people would some day attack Ferelden and would be honored to fight you. Could he possibly do that in DA2, but instead of you he finds Hawke. I'd love to see this.
They could make it a DLC for DAO, like I think they will when they decide to expand on Morrigan's demon baby. With that being said, hows about finding Alistair in a tavern (if you did not make him king) saying that he was a Grey Warden, all while being drunk off his rocker.
It was also stated at the end of the game, if you helped Dagna, she goes and writes a great book, it'd be interesting to find this book in a town.

I think the qunari invasion would be better as a full expansion or even the focus of the third game. There's just too much potential to make it a side plot. I grew attached to Sten so I hope we get to see him again somehow too.
There have been a couple of forum posts by the devs implying that some characters will make an appearance. I'm guessing Alistair will be one, but I'm sure we will see some NPCs as well. I have my fingers crossed for Dagna and Teagan.
