Up until the Free Marches? I thought only Ferelden was affected by the Blight and nations like Orlais was spared of the Blight?

That would be interesting to find out actually. Maybe they are not Darkspawn that ever made it from Ferelden. They probably are those native to the Free Marches and merely just got the gall enough to creep out.

The Deep Roads span all across Thedas, so the darkspawn can pop up almost anywhere. The Archdemon must have chosen Fereldan or was just conveniently found under Fereldan, and focused the Blight there.

Orlais and all the other nations were spared the Fifth Blight, but there is a time period after every Blight called the Thaw or something, when the Grey Wardens go off and try to hunt down the now disorganized darkspawn on the surface, who did spread to Orlais and the Free Marches as TheFaceless93 stated.

Any darkspawn up there could be from the Silent plains, from what I recall the Silent plains have been tainted ever since the first blight.

Never heard of The Silent Plains. Can anyone explain just what that is?

The Silent Plains is south of Tevinter Imperium and north of Nevarra, so just between the two. There is a map of Thedas that you can dl as a wallpaper or something, or you can check the wikia for the map.
