Dear Bioware

Then the news of DA2 comes. However, it seems that instead of sticking to what brought the franchise so much success, you guys at Bioware have changed the formula. We will not get a "true sequel," as we cannot follow our wardens' story. We will be thrust into a premade, albeit customizeable, character (Hawke). No ties to "god child" or Morrigan. And it seems that the combat will be watered down. More hack and slash like Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia. I've come to love many of your games, but this game quite frankly seems disapointing.

Hey BioWare, your last game was AMAZING. Wow! You guys are REALLY GOOD AT MAKING GAMES! But the next game isn't about what I want it to be about, so therefore it will suck! In spite of your proven track record! And despite the fact that I know almost nothing about it! How dare you?!

Plus I certain that Morrigan "unfinished" plot will be resolved though another expansion pack to DA:O as it makes the most practical since (at least in my opinion since making a with morrigan would have to settle the matter of whether she is had the god baby or not), and if not the alternatives are for a surprise appearance in DA2 or a role in DA3 which i sure there will be.
Aside for the tangent I just went on, DA:O was the ENTIRE story of Hero of Ferelden any possible continuation would be through DLC and Expansions. Also one thing they said about DA2 is that you can import save data to determine the state of Ferelden and Thedas as you left it in Origins and Awakening.
Its nice to see Thedas from another set of eyes in a different setting with a different style wih Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall. Also Bioware said they are keep everything that worked well and scrapping the rest as to my understading and it is a known fact that the PC version of DA2 combat will be for the most part unchanged from DA:O. Anyhoo I done with rant there, take it or leave it.

I think its a silent variation of quoting someone and saying "This" underneath.

But. You. Don't. Know. That.
You are making wild speculation on the story matter based on tweaked combat and a dialogue wheel. Seriously now.
I'd like to quote SirOccam:
Quoting now...
...proven track record...
BioWare's as pretty damn flawless as any game company can be, when it comes to the games they produce. I'd have faith, if I were you. "Story based gaming" is what they call themselves, right? Why would they change that now?

Thank you. I was under the impression it was something other than odd bumping/trolling/failed quoting, but it never seemed to accomplish anything, and it's hard to tell if someone supports something when they just repeat it silently. It's like an internet echo.

"Action Game" describes the style of combat. "Role Playing Game" describes the story, character development-- basically everything outside of combat. The two are NOT mutually exclusive.
They already changed the combat system and style radically from baldur's gate to dragon age. And, in fact, Baldur's Gate was a major change from traditional rpgs in that it was real time instead of turn based. Complainers and pessimists probably criticized that change at the time as well.
Games are not static. The ways they are made evolve with technology. It is silly to expect them to remain the exact same. But I see no reason to believe that the elements which have always made most bioware games great-- story, characters, morality, choices, options, role playing-- are going to change any time soon.

Yes, but all that stuff is made up. Why is it an "action game" instead of an RPG? The only thing in that regard has been remarkably vague, and much of it is just about tweaking the console versions to better suit playing with a controller.adi4444 wrote...

Things like "it's not a real sequel" is just an arbitrary declaration that has no basis in fact. Of course it's a sequel. It's called Dragon Age 2. The main character might have changed, but that makes sense considering it's possible for you to kill the main character in DAO. And it's still Thedas, and the stuff that happened in DAO is still represented in DA2. Life in Thedas goes on, and that's why it's a sequel. Same world, same continent. Despite what personal opinions you may have on what a sequel has to be...it is a sequel.
All these calls of "action game" and "hack & slash" is all based on the one demo that has been shown (only to a select few people), which was an action scene, so it's hardly representative of the game as a whole, and a couple of vague phrases whose true meanings none of us can possibly know yet.

For true sequels always follow the same character constantly, without ever diverging into new territory by having different points of view or settings! Y'know those "Lord of the Rings" books? They SUCKED! They didn't stick with following Bilbo from "The Hobbit"! Why couldn't they have focussed entirely on his life, ignoring all that "War of the Ring" crap and just showing him aging after giving up the ring before sailing off to the Undying Lands? Frodo and the others SUCK, y'know?tjm335 wrote...

It seems that something has gone awry. In DA:O you made a nearly perfect game. It was fun, and successful (both critically and financially). You created a rich tapestry of a game which satisfied rpg fans everwhere. It was hailed as the spiritual sucessor to Baldaur's Gate, and was a rejoice to old school rpg players for its tactical and strategic play. The DA universe was teeming with posibility...
Then the news of DA2 comes. However, it seems that instead of sticking to what brought the franchise so much success, you guys at Bioware have changed the formula. There is no point in carrying on with the Warden though. The Blight has ended, and the Darkspawn will probably get a small role in DA2. Little to no Darkspawn means no need to play as a Warden.
