Still working on the ending for my DE rogue. The elvish trickster god (Fen'Harel) has been messing with her life for 50,000+ words so far.
Summary to date: Aithne fell in love with Alistair in spite of her mistrust of humans, was dumped by him, and convinced him to do the Dark Ritual because she felt it was the best chance to defeat the blight with only a few Wardens available. She became chancellor, sorted out the problems in Amaranthine and left Nathaniel in charge so she could return to her position as chancellor. Devoting herself to the rebuilding of Ferelden she stood by when Alistair married a human noble woman and failed to get on with her life. Five years later Alistairs wife is pregnant and Zevran points out to Aithne that she should grow up and move on.

Then the plot thickens - Morrigan sends to Alistair for help because of a threat to the god baby and Aithne, Zevran and Anders head off to the Free Marches. Will the god-baby be taken by darkspawn, Wardens from Weisshaupt, blood mages, Crows or Flemeth; or can our intrepid heros get there in time? How far will the corruption of Aithne's honor go? Will I ever finish Aithne's story and write the sequel?

See what happens when you ask a simple question.

All sounds well thought out. Reminds me of Diablo 2, where the hero, called the Dark Wanderer, from the first game actually becomes the vessel of the villain in the second installment. Is that what you are trying to accomplish: Making your Warden into a villain for DA:O2?

The plot for this story was concieved before DA2 was announced.  She won't really end up the villan, but she certainly won't be an untarnished hero either - sometimes two wrongs can make a right, but it doesn't erase the bad choices.  I am trying to make her sublimate her honor in favor of a (possibly) greater good.  My sequel will deal with the results of her choices (both good and bad).  Sorry for the vagueness but I'm trying to avoid spoilers for those that are following my fic.

@Sarah - I originally intended for Aithne to romance Zev in game but in trying to stay true to her character I couldn't get her past Zev's surface personality before Alistair gave her the rose.  Poor innocent Aithne fell for it and then (in the name of honor) couldn't think of Zev as anything but a friend.  Growing up sheltered from a lot of social interaction in a small Dalish clan left her emotionally immature and very unprepared for the reality of making Alistair king.   Fighting she can do, personal relationships - not so much.

I was listening to somebody perform the Pink song "Who knew?" in karaoke last night, and it occurred to me that most of us envision the romances in the game continuing (unless they ended during the game). Thinking about it objectively, I think people who are thrown together in a situation where they are working very closely for a period of months and facing terrible danger could very easily form romantic attachments that they would never form if they met under other circumstances...and that these relationships might not last when their lives return to normal.

For me, I always felt the Ultimate Sacrifice ending was the right one. So my Warden's story ends with me dead after killing the Archdemon.

Trust me, I know the feeling, my theme with all my characters, the official ones, is that each hero in the games I play is originally a just and kind hearted fellow who, at one point and/or another, falls from grace thus being called either an anti-hero or villain. The three things he looks back on for his entire life, regardless of how proud he is overall of his accomplishments, are: the sacrifice of Isolde to save Connor, the death of Loghain (having later figured out the things done to him before the liberation from Orlais), and the choosing of Harrowmont (he doesn't regret the choosing itself, but the lack of involvement necessary to convince Harrowmont to be more diplomatic with the surface and Casteless).

He's ****ed up many times even as a good character, and by NO means is your "perfect knight" in shining armor. Granted he is a heroic and chivalric gentlemen, which is a rare sight in our real world these days, but he is also open to interpretation from other races and is never too quick to judge most of the situations which he hits in life. The nobility taught him of the origins which he derived from, and the Cousland family taught him to throw it away. In other words, he was taught not to use his nobility as an excuse for lack of commitment, willpower, knowledge, and then some.

Unfortunately, even a noble who knows the definition of honor can mess up, and when Bahlgan messes up, sometimes it is on a colossal level. Refer to his three regrets after the defeat of the Archdemon.

This! That's exactly the point of my Warden's story where the main character and the former LI might have a connection but not an ongoing relationship that could be rekindled.

Leilania, close name to Leliana I know, didn't knew about at her at time of creation. My first warden. Female elven mage, a kind soul dedicated to healing and supporting her companions, eventually fell in love with Alistair.

Although their relationship evolved slowly it was a close one.

In the end she made Anora queen, as she was terrified of losing him to the crown, only to lose him to the archdemon sacrificing his life to protect her.

Devastated of the loss of her love, her friend and companion and the betrayal of Morrigan of whom she had seen as a good friend until Redcliffe.

She offered to help out Leliana in her adventure but was turned down much to her dismay.

Wynne being to old for further adventures and besides she never liked her holier than thou attitude, and Sten dead in Lothering she was left with Oghren whom she despised.

She took to travelling, seeking refuge first among the Dalish but never found peace there as to many Dalish had to great a hatred for humanity, which she understood but never found herself. Eventually she packed her things and left for Orzammar only to find it ruled by a stubborn old idiot named Harrowmont which she herself had put on the throne... She had tried her best and failed to so many places. And when she later heard about how the dragon atop the mountain side who still lived had killed Leliana among many others she went insane.

Having no lust for her life anymore, having lost most of her friends and no desire to wait for her calling she contemplated going to the deep roads early but being combat weary, she never went.

She donated all her remaining wealth to the orphans of Denerim, being the only good deed she every did right in her life and disappeared.

Some guards who caught a last glimpse of her claimed she had turned into a raven an early morning, flying away towards the ocean continuing until her strength couldn't keep her up any longer. She embraced the cold ocean with regrets of her life, but happy that it very soon would be over...

Ekion Cousland spends years searching for Morrigan after he defeats the Mother. Feeling that his time is coming to an end, he accepts a request for help from a new generation of feralden wardens. While on an adventure deep underground, an accident cause a massive group of darkspawn to attack. Ekion throws his pack to one of the new wardens, and then destroys the supports of a dwarven gate. This act protects the new wardens, but seals him alone with the coming darkspawn horde.
