Is it possible to remove the Mass Effect 2 (and 1) save files from the computer and put them into a USB, then uninstalling the game, reinstall it, and then put the save files back again, without the game becoming messed up (like being unable to load the save files etc)?

This is a very important question, as I'm going to update my computer in a week or so, and I want to save my Mass Effect files in order to transfer them into Mass Effect 3 in the future.

I've done it when I upgraded to Windows 7. No problem. You may also want to save the coalesced.ini file (if you modified it) located in C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked, or whatever path you installed ME2 in, and the Player1.prf file (which contains your achievements) located in the folder BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile under your Documents folder.
(Sorry for the double backslashes in paths: the forum editor "clones" them.)

Yes, I backed up my savefiles on a stick.  Just make a backup of the entire BioWare folder that is in Documents by default.
