Protip: if you want to have better sales, have better marketing. The current one is terrible.

Hope bioware achieves these kind of sales and obsidian and cdproject so that we have an assured future of sweet roleplaying goodness, and maybe they'll see the profitability of rpg's in the wider market and bring back ultima from its grave in the depth of ea hq.

Yeah sod all chance but an old man can dream of once more treading the path of the virtues.

I still say a Super bowl ad would be the most likely way to boost sales for DA2. The timing is perfect.

But of course it would need to be a really sensational ad to hook enough of those 100 million people watching.

Across all platforms it might just sell that many. They'd seriously need to market the hell out of it and advertise it's gory gameplay ala violence trailer for DAO.

It would still never happen. RPGs don't have a broad enough appeal to sell 10,000,000 units. I would make the argument that RPG gamers are the more serious gamers because of the time requirements and the fact that they're more than just twitch action. You have to pay attention to dialogue and cutscenes to experience the game in its entirety, whereas with FPSs the story mode is essentially a tutorial and an easy way to get trophies/achievements. Most gamers are in fact casual gamers and are looking for pick-up-and-play action that they can pop in and out of. RPGs are all about engrossing you in their world.
If Bioware seriously thinks ME3 or DA2 will sell that manu units they will be in for a surprise. And if that's the bar for success now then the franchises may end sooner than we think. Mass Effect was considered a killer ap for 360 and it didn't even come close to 10 million units, counting both games.

I'm not sure what kind of shooter's you've played, but let me tell you that beating Halo in legendary mode requires a lot more dedication that completing a solo nightmare run in Origins. In fact, western RPGs are the easiest games I can think of, well sports games may be easier but I don't play them so I don't know. But try to collect all the stars in Super Mario Sunshine, that's dedication, not playing Dragon Age. Are platformer gamers the most "serious" ones?

I agree that RPGs sales will never reach 10 millon, but that's not because RPGs players are better (or more serious) than shooter players as you guys make it sound.

I regularly play shooters like Halo and COD. To me beating Halo in Legendary is the defult way to play the campaign. Otherwise it's not a challenge. Online is where you spend your time with a Halo game, not the campaign. DAO is all "campaign" and presents different types of challenges whereas shooters present just one.

First off, I'm not trying to flame or troll, but ehh...blew through halo in legendary on my first playthrough while borrowing the game and console from a friend.  Nightmare on Origins still gives me problems. This could merely be that I grew up on the genesis instead of the snes (which most gamers seem to have) so my early gaming was more focused on reflexes than strategy.  Point is though, just because this game or that game is harder for you, doesn't mean so for other people.
As to the argument that rpg players are "more serious players" I've yet to see an rpg player pull the hardline on his/her gaming setup to try and keep his/her stats perfect.  I don't think it gets more serious than risking $600 for a stat...

Quoted for truth.

That's why they are dumbing things down, to appeal to that mass market because of the numbers they represent.
