If they want to sell 10 million, they will have to change the nature of the gameplay in DA2 to appeal to a wider audience. Not being a naysayer or conspiracy theorist here. Just seems logical to me.

Yes, but, there doesn't seem to be much changing, in terms of combat anyway.

From what I was able to gather

Wii Sports (63.46 million)
Wii Play (27.38 million)
Wii Fit (22.61 million)
Mario Kart Wii (22.55 million)
Wii Sports Resort (16.14 million)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (14.70 million)
Wii Fit Plus (12.65 million)
Nintendogs All versions (23.26 million)
New Super Mario Bros. (22.49 million)
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (18.72 million)
Mario Kart DS (17.90 million)
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (17.39 million)
Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! (13.71 million)
Animal Crossing: Wild World (10.79 million)

(Top PC Games)
The Sims (16 million shipped)
The Sims 2 (13 million)
World of Warcraft (11.5 million subscribers)
StarCraft (11 million)

I don't know about you, but I think you have to be Nintendo to say that you can hit the 10 million mark with confidence.

Bioware if you want to make the 10 million mark. Heres an idea. PUT The new DA2 combat system on the WII and try to convince The casual Wii crowd its better than bowling. WOO!

Then it's not going to happen. Admittedly, I don't have figures, but I assume hardcore RPG players must represent a much smaller demographic than the other gaming genres.

They need to recognize who built them up to where they are and stick with that fanbase, in my humble opinion. Trying to compete with Blizzard is just crazy talk. They can already make games as well as Blizzard, whether they are as popular as World of Warcarft or not.

I disagree with you 100% percent. When it comes down to anything. Nothing is impossible! Unless your dead! Anywho, TOR is on the way and we don't know what its going to do for Bioware and EA so this comment is just plain silly. Posted Image

I agree, for DA2.

But, with a game like TOR, having a small fanbase will be very  bad. God knows how much money is being put into that massive project. It needs to be succesful.

Star Wars is half the problem. No other IP has been so thoroughly milked to death. Many gamers of this genreation could care less about an outdated, seventies pipe dream from a hack director.

That's not meant to be flamebait. I mean it with all my heart. StarWars needs to die already.  It keeps coming back like a bad rash.

Wooha 10 mill.

Thats one hell of a goal for a singleplayer (?) RPG. Has any company even manage that?. I just dont see that happning unless its featured with multiplayer, and not even then im sure they'll reach 10 mill.

Tho im sure they got a good chance with their SW-MMO.

All this GZ dude does is brag. I think DA2 will sell about 4 million unless GZ buys 6 million of them. I also can't wait for TOR if they can make the gameplay smooth.

This seemse to be the case.  However multiplatform games such as COD and GTA break those marks.  GTA San Andreas specifically sold in the mid teens in millions I believe.  Gran Turismo also was up there.

Wrong on many accounts, most apparent being that TOR is far removed from the original series.

DA2 will but lucky to hit the 3 million mark DA:O did with how its turned off a portion of its original clients!

No way DA2 hits 4 million sales!
Thats just crazy talk

As for TOR, im on record predicting between 2.5 and 5 million MAX after the first full year sales (thats sales, not units shipped as some folks seem to think they the same thing. Saw someone (was it here or TOR forum?) claiming ME2 has sold 8 million units! LOL. Might have shipped 8 million but it sure didnt sell 8 million.

I'm sure the hot coffe mod helped for San Andreas. :P

Quality will give big sales, remember that

In a perfect world... many high quality games do not sell well and many low quality games sell very well. If Dragon Age was the same game, but released by some unknown dev team, you can bet it would have much less success. Especially with a name like Dragon Age.

And watch it tank.  Outside of a couple the market is over saturated.

Indeed. The games still have to be good, too.

The Call of Duty series wouldn't be where it's at if all of it's games were as bad as Rogue Warrior.

Metal Gear Solid 4 only sold about 4 million, not that much.
Sims 3 sold double that.

That does seem to be the mindset, doesnt it!

I think he had to be talking about TOR and only TOR cause DA:O pretty close to the high end sales number for a western RPG (and lets be honest, 3.2 million is freaking amazing sales number. Im currently playing The Witcher and they making a state of art sequel based on 1.2 million units sold for their first game which means they consider 1.2 to be a huge success).

North American/Europe markets just dont sell 10 million stand alone RPGs far as I know.

Which leaves TOR, but as I said on TOR forums, only one MMORPG ever done that so I think its greedy to target that much (and bad business for investors when you come up short).

Personally I think the Good Doctor doing once again what hes been doing since the EA buy out, hes spinning and marketting and nothing else!

DA2 will be hugely happy if they can maintain the previous 3.2 million units sold like first one (doubtful IMO)
ME2 has sold less units then ME1 so you cant think ME3 is going to suddenly blow past every other title out there for Bioware
The Old Republic reasonably should be looking for 2.5-5 million units sold (and subscribed to, subscription is the big money maker for MMORPGs) to be considered hugely successful! 10 million would be considered out of the park grand slam for them and I doubt anyone realistically thinking they going to do that. Maybe over time if TOR gets good reveiws but not off the bat in the first year.
