I did a playthrough with absolutley 0 side quests, took me 17 hours to finish and it was on easy. Doing many side quests in the game can result in 50+ hours, my friend made a playthrough with 95% achievements and it took him 90 hours.

I got it down to an art form, you can play a almost full playthrough (95% completion type thing) finish at about level 55 in under 30 hours with ease. My first playthrough took me rather longer however xD

Tbh I still prefer ME1's combat to ME2's, I dunno why I just do. But that's just personal opinion. As far as I know there isn't a demo of ME1 but you'll be able to pick up one pretty cheap, it's about a tenner on steam for example. xD

Edit: Check ebay, looks like they got second hand ones from about 99p + delivery

What lol?Image IPB
I personally slightly prefer ME2 to ME1, though not by much, each has it's advantages. I never understand why people play ME2 first when the story is so key to the trilogy, and is one of the strongest part of the 2 games.
And playing ME1 second is taking a step back from ME2 in some regards (dialouge, combat), making people not quite able to enjoy how brilliant the game was at the time.

But you should def. play ME1, better late then never.

I just do, it's more fun, for me it may be the fact that there's less emphasis on shot placement and the combat feels more epic because you engage way more enemies at a time and just plough through them. Also, I dislike sticky cover, it does my head in. Besides, I used to compete at an amature level in cod, cs:s, bf 1942 and bf 2. We even took a team to I-Series a couple of times.

If you liked me2 I would get me1 just to see the whole story, regardless of the gameplay or graphics. Also me1 is probably real cheap by now like 15$ I'd guess

I like me2 better but me1 is more of the same. As far as dlc goes bring down the sky is pretty good although short, pinnacle station is ok

IMO ME1 has an ending 10x better than ME2's one, especially if you take the Paragon side, but I won't give any further details about it xD
The combat in ME1 might not be as polished as in ME2, but the story, exploration(long live the Mako!), side-missions, inventory and upgrade system are way better in my opinion. Besides, biotics in ME1 are reeeeaaaally more useful than in ME2, and shooting geth is more fun than shooting mercs :D

EDIT: Ah, I forgot to tell about the combat armour. I hated it when i wasn't able to customise my companions' armour. By the way, I didn't understand why most of our companions in ME2 don't use armour, since it's the only way to give them kinetic barriers, shields and any protection against firearms according to the codex and the novels. Ok, ok, I know that if our companions used armour in ME2 we wouldn't be able to appreciate Miranda's features :P

I prefer ME1 in almost every category over ME2, the only thing it's lacking is awesome Joker scenes and pretty cinematics... Not that I dislike ME2, but ME1 was better IMHO.

Only thing ME1 needs to make it perfect is.

Tabs for inventory.

ANd reduce the amount of .... weaponry grades to 5 instead of 10.

....Make the running a bit more often.

Add the Sinks to it.

More Squadies..

And that is it... perfect :P

ONly reason I dont star new carreers... is coz it takes 4ever to get me my colossus sets.... so annoying.

Still I pass it with my soldier over and over whenever I can :P lol

Personally I like ME1 better than ME2, it feels so much more epic, and it truly has good/bad choices, not faux-good/bad choices.

Too bad it doesn't have "extra exp after passing game"... and more easily accessible armors for replays... is a pain to get colossus sets.

You can get ME1 dirt cheap....plus that's the only way to save the council. I think the default option is that the council dies.

ok so I got ME1 and overall its enjoyable. combat is confusing, the cover system is strange, and theres no health regeneration without medi-gel. how do I heal my teammates? I cant figure out how.

Im still stuck on the first mission so I'll post back when I have played more.

Definitely worth it. While not as good as ME2 in any way, it's a must buy for anyone who plans to get into the series.

Also, why are the graphics so "meh"? I can run ME2 med-high, I dont get why ME1 looks third class.

while the game play of me1 sucks a bit i would strongly say to get it due to the simple fact your story line carrys over to me 2 from it the choices you make plus you get bounues from starting a import from me1 player level 60

and you wont get lost along the way with the story line its only like 15 bucks maybe less if you buy it from amazon or ebay

Ok so Im getting the hand of this game. Combat is getting better, but thats probably because Im playing on casual. Its fun so far, but the inventory system confuses me.

I prefer ME2 in almost every way, but getting ME1 to import a character is invaluable. I can't count the number of times in ME2 I ended up saying "Hey, it's that guy! Awesome!" because of choices I made in ME1.

ME1 is a great game for sure, but I'm not sure why everyone thinks to seem its story and characters are superior. The majority of the squadmates in ME1 have the personality of brown paper bags. Tali is great and all, but only in ME2. In ME1 she's a codex entry with a shotgun. The only really well done character in ME1 is, IMO, Wrex.

This. In ME1, every word out of Tali's mouth is "The flotilla this, the flotilla that." ME2 gives her a personality, by creating much-needed friction between her and her people - friction that Wrex, Liara and Garrus already possess.

On insanity, I still make sure I stay in onyx armor to keep the n7 style, only upgrading when I get a new set, which can be pretty rare sometimes. Of course, combat isn't really any harder on insanity, everything just takes longer to kill.

But ME2 isn't exactly hard either - just more fun (imo obviously).

Still, I enjoyed ME1 very much. The cinamatic style and rich detail really brought the world to life - even if the bland settings tried to bludgeon it to death. I know exactly when I the game hooked me - the first flight into the Citadel. I thought that was an epic moment, maybe even batter than the final space battle.
