Ok so Im getting the hand of this game. Combat is getting better, but thats probably because Im playing on casual. Its fun so far, but the inventory system confuses me.

What is confusing?

Well for one thing, I find that ARs arent very effective unless you have the aiming upgrade that makes it easier to aim, sniper rifles are very unsteady, no heavy weapons, and sometimes overall confusing. The Mako handles like a vehicle from Red Faction Guerrilla, theres no brake for it, and I cant figure out where to get more grenades.
But I do love the immersion- the citadel is so much better in ME1 than it is in ME2.

well only the combat can be said is better in ME2

enjoy the atmosphere of ME1, the true introduction to the setting, and the ability to freely equip/upgrade both your weapons and armors, plus the ability to do the same for your companions

So its not so much confusing as it is a hassle?

I'm just trying to understand the complaint, as my complaints stem from the removal of those features.

This shouldn't even be a question, ofcourse Mass Effect 1 is worth it! One of THE BEST storylines in a video game I have ever played (Second only to Bioshock 1's Story), each of the MAIN missions give off a unique & creative feel to them, great music, great dialog between your squadmates (Especially when talking to Kaiden & Ashley IMO), a memorable Villain(Something ME2 didn't really have), & the most important reason of all: it's the beginning of the trilogy! why didn't you start with Mass Effect 1 in the first place? Oh yeah, I forgot to type the downsides of ME1: The combat system isn't isn't as good as ME2, & the inventory system might be a hassle to you. Overall though Mass Effect 1 is worth it! (It was for me, too bad I couldn't get the Collectors Edition as it was only avalible on gamestop.com & needed a credit card to get which I didn't at the time)

Well at the time when I posted that it was confusing due to no real tutorial. I didnt even know how to apply medi-gel at the time! Now its much clearer on how to play and overall very enjoyable. Even if it seems like Shep is drunk when driving the Mako.

Ok so I played through ME2 and I loved it. Now, is ME1 as good as ME2? Im thinking about getting it and playing through both of them with the same character.
Is the ME1 DLC any good?
What about combat?

Why the bloody hell didn't you play ME1 first?!

Because ME2 was my first RPG-ish game and a friend of mine had a 2nd copy of ME2 he didnt want so he gave it to me. Soon I was hooked.

Welcome to the love of RPG games!

Other games will feel empty in comparison.

perhaps with the exeption of some adventure games

but then again, adventure and computer RPG genres are torn apart from pnp RPG to begin with

I'd say it depends on how much you liked ME2. If you loved it then definitely go after ME1. It'll allow you to be much more aware of what's going on, and it's awesome to see how it all started.

DLC isn't too plentiful. There's only two. The first is a straight-up arena mode DLC that pits you against a bunch of enemies, and I can't give you any more insight because I didn't feel it was worth my time. But the other piece of DLC is awesome: Bring Down the Sky. This is where we first met the Batarians, and it's quite an epic experience.

The combat is ehhhh. It shares a lot of similar characteristics between ME2 but it plays pretty differently, both mechanically and control scheme.

But overall, you definitely need to give ME1 a shot. Plus it's pretty cheap these days.

Its the same but different.
Its less linear, but environments repeat a lot.
Personally I find it slower than ME2 and less polished with visuals, but the bonus of importing characters is fun.

When you say "repeating enviroments," what do you mean? The terrain is similar? Or the exact same layout of levels?

Graphics dont worry me. I play ME2 on medium, so probably ME1 will look great.

What we mean by repeating enviroments is in alot of the main missions you will find that there could be a lot of driving around to get though the mission. They dont take place in an environments that are small enough to walk through. And the side missions there are only two types of buildings either above ground or below ground. And those buildings have the same lay out, sorry also the side missions that take place on onboard ships the lay out of the ship is the same. But i would say buy it, to me the story line in ME is 10 times more epic than in ME 2.

If you're after *cough* great *cough* gameplay mechanics (aka spinal nerve reflex training), ME1 is really bad at this.

Story and immersion blows people away, though.
