Beautiful creatures. Though some species of them that hunt small fish are real pests to the eco-sysystem.

Bill569, in case you weren't joking - by what criteria, and what study has shown such a thing? (Not to say that dolphins aren't smart, they are clearly among the smartest animals out there.)
I had a conversation with my physics teacher last year and we were talking about human intelligence and he told me that. I think I also had read that somewhere before. Anyway, now that I googled it, from what I read I understood that dolphins are definitely the second-smartest animals and that some scientists consider them as smart or even smarter than humans, but most scientists consider them the second-smartest.

Names and references to studies please. From what I can tell, dolphins are rated about as smart as chimps - with some placing them sligltly lower, some slightly higher in intelligence. No reputable scientist of a relevant field I know of makes the rather absurd claim that they are anywhere near as smart, or smarter than humans.
What your physics teacher tells you about biology has about as much weight as what your plumber tells you about cooking. Being a scientist, or a science teacher, does not give you expertiese in every field of science. Even among biologists, most would not be qualified to comment with any authority on the intelligence of dolphins - you would have to look for marine biologists specializing on marine mammals.
