I define magic as the biological feature that allows control over matter. How that is possible? No idea.

On a lighter note, I call that Digestion not Magic.

For all those saying that Magic is a fundamental feature of ANY setting: Kindly define Magic.

Define light.

Tragically I am a Physicist. So you have to ask me a specific question. So for me light is defined as:

Electromagnetic wave/s.

But what is light, a wave or a particle? How can it be both?

My point is that there is things that are unexplained here too. Not having an explanation does not = God. If you're a physicist, you should be able to wrap your head around that.

  That pretty well partitions the available space...  But if you mean the Chantry or no religion at all...

Dragon worship (in the past and in certain isolated areas in the present).  Some follow the Qun (not technically a religion but it is an alternate structured belief system).  One assumes the Chasind have some sort of belief system that's outside of the Chantry.

the dual nature of Light is NOT unexplained... :) It is perfectly explainable using quantum mechanics.

Indeed. But we are talking about a game and its universe, not real world. Arent you a little bit of curious?

So?
Because the only reason you even think of the Maker is because humans made it to rationalize (possibly, at least) magic in their world and the Fade. Elves, dwarves, qunari, Avvar...none of them need it.
Your entire argument stems on "there is magic, there is a Golden City, we can't explain it, there must be a god".
There is no mention of magic in the OP.
You identified magic as being proof of a god later. I'm not sure why you think later posts don't count as you.

That light analogy isn't the best, but we're talking magic. Someone already said this, but to them, its just a fixture in their world. Having to explain magic and why it exists isn't important to a story--sometimes, it just does.

The writers have left it entirely up to us on whether we believe the Maker exists. I have the same views on the Maker as I do on RL religion...agnosticism.

Well (s)he is the maker and not the "sticker-arounder- who particpates-in-puny-liveser" I hope the maker is never proven or disproven so people can be responsible for their own, lives, choices, and consequences and there is no god to punish or save them.

I am curious about other belief systems in the DA world. Dwarves seem to have ancestor worship that also has turned into something more political than theological. Eleves have their gods, but must be pretty annoyed or disappointed in them. Do humans have anything besides The Maker and Not the Maker?

I forget what the Rivani(spelling?) believe, but I think I remember some adopt a Qun like type of belief system.  Other than that there are the Chasined, I don't think all of them are Andrastian.

Copy/paste from Wikipedia search of Magic.

Magic may refer to:

Magic (paranormal), the use of supernatural methods to manipulate natural forces, such as witchcraft

Religious magic, which may involve the intercession of deities or other spirits, such as prayer

Ceremonial magic, a complex ritual system of esoteric spiritual development using occult techniques

Magick, a specific system of ritual magic deriving from the religious philosophy of Thelema

Magic (illusion), the art of appearing to perform supernatural feats using sleight of hand or other methods

Now that that is settled, back to the topic of the Maker. I find it interesting as well that the Chantry believe that the Maker turned away from his creations (completely dismissed the spirits right when he was done, what an ass, lol), but not everyone believes in that (Leliana), so maybe a sect is growing that believes the Maker hasn't abandoned his creations and is just slightly getting involved here and there (Leliana again).

As for Morrigan, it seems she won't be satisfied with a creator figure unless he/she is labeled as The Tyrant and controls everything and leaves no free will for anyone.

I never delved that far into physics. But you are saying that since we don't have an explanation about what magic is, it is stupid not to believe in a deity.

That reminds me, there are also cults that worship the darkspawn, or at least the blight. Such cults came around the time of the First Blight, don't know if any still exist.

Something about the connection to lyrium as well, with lyrium being a kind of materialization of the Fade in the world. Also, magic is being connected with the Fade, a spirit world, and no one in Thedas connects it to the Maker, so I'm not sure if it supports The Maker theory(/belief for all the denizens of Thedas) at all.

One expects the Tevinter Imperium had thoughts on the nature of the Golden City.  Do we know if they attributed it to the Old Gods?  The Old Gods clearly exist(ed), but as five of them have been incarnated as Archdemons and killed, the nature of their divinity seems... suspect.  Certainly not in the "three O's" form that's usually used.

But no reason they couldn't build a Golden City.

Nobody ever heard of the Maker before Andraste, yes?  Seems like his existence must not be so self-obvious if the Tevinters didn't see it for a thousand years.

Well, there is the Spirit Healer specialization, which calls on the spirits of the Fade to intercede in the world in order to heal/revive party members. There are spirits, but that doesn't prove the Maker. However, I like to have my Warden be a believer.
