First, I wanted to say that I love this game.. Bioware has always been my game company of choice, I have been playing NWN and NWN2 for some time and still have them on my computers and still enjoy them. Now I just got DA:O recently and have almost finished the game (I'm on the last section now..) and I can say I have enjoyed this game more than any other I've played in a long long time. You guys did a great job with this game; the story, the characters, the dialog, battle, music, sound effects - everything is outstanding! Another thing I love about Bioware is that you include a toolset, and since I am a long time tinkerer I really do appreciate that!
okay, with that said I hope no one mistakes this post as a flame or dissing anyone....
The NWN community is quite impressive, vibrant with tons of community involvement, almost an endless amount of custom content, etc. I was quite surprised when I found this community that the involvement is so low, i.e. the community is so much smaller with precious few content creators and a small amount of custom stuff to download and enjoy... I think the reason is that the toolset is a B**** to use, and with the potential of this game engine I think that is a bit sad...
okay now all I really wanted to say is that I wish there would have been a basic toolset user's guide (a .pdf perhaps?) - obviously it would be unreasonable to expect a full user's guide since that would be a monumental task at best, but even a basic user's guide would have been something... I think this community would be much larger and more successful if there had been one with the toolset as it is almost unusable to the beginning DA:O builder...
I have been able to create several modules using the NWN toolset... after hours of reading about the DA toolset I'm still lost.. lol I'm sure after I've been working with it for several months I'll start getting the hang of it... but see here's what I'm saying... with the gaming industry being what it is a new game will come out long before builders like me have a chance to put out any decent content and by then it's obsolete... lol
at any rate, it's too bad because this game is the best one out there IMHO, and the community would have grown and grown had there been something to give it even just a tiny bit of momentum... just something to think about is all....
