That's stupid - cause a shriek hasn't much in common to the elfs, beside the ears - nor a genlock and hurlock to the other races.
It is explained enough that Ogre are just HUGE - but I can't see nowhere in the lore that anyone has seen such a Qunari - this looks like a Minotaur - >.<
And don't tell me the other races are blind

Wut.

Okay, I've officially stopped taking this game seriously, and just hope on meeting this bad mofo your bard friend whips out a lute and he and Hawke in unison sing an f-bomb.

Really, though, one of the things I liked about DA:O was the realism despite still very much being fantasy.  This leans more toward a Blizzard-style design, IMO.

Some body else said this but I thought it was relevant. "The horns would explain why the Qunari Broodmothers spawn ogres "

This means that the aspect of Qunari was wrong in Origins, and now in DA2 they are just giving them the right appearence...

I think it's a gooood move! In the first game they didn't have the option to be visual killers (money/new engine), but now they are changing everything like it should have been in the first one as well. *love*

I haven't really commented on anything about DA2 or the new art style (which already got me worried when I saw the new darkspawn) but this is just incredible ridiculous... I already fear how they are going to ruin elves or dwarves when they've done this to Qunari. I just can't take this new style seriously after seeing this...

Come on, people. Am I the only one here with a long memory full of trivia? Does no one else remember the Mysterious Fourth Race?

Back when Origins was first announced (and wasn't called Origins), the press and a few fans had a look at some DA concept art. Among these, they described an unknown race, which was characterised alternately as catlike or dragon-like. To which Bioware responded "we see why you might think that from looking at certain parts of them, but not really".

Much later, when the Qunari were revealed and we learned that there had been plans for a Qunari origin at one point, we asked LdyShayna (who saw the concepts) whether the 4th race and the Qunari were one and the same. And she said something along the lines of "not unless the Qunari were originally planned to be much more fierce and bestial looking, with horns and claws".

Seems to me like Bioware is not changing the Qunari, they're changing them back to the original concept.
I wish LdyShayna was still around to comment on this.:(

Not sure I understand the freakouts in this thread. Aside from the horns, they barely look different, and there's sensible enough lore explaining why we haven't seen the horns before. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with elves and dwarves.

It's all rubbish, evolution. Bioware knew they needed to revamp the looks of that race. For all their worth, the Qunari were supposedly a race of tough, merciless beings etc. DAO did not present that in the first game. They just looked like dark skinned brutes.

Now even the Elves and Dwarfs are getting a revamp on their image, to make DA2 look 'pretty' or 'grimmer'.

Anyone who travels far enough to the north will eventually encounter the qunari: White-haired, bronze-skinned giants, a head again taller than a man, with frighteningly calm demeanors and a sort of sparkling fire behind their eyes.

For quite a long time, people believed that all qunari were male, or that their men and women were simply indistinguishable. It was not until the Blessed Age that diplomats from Rivain were allowed, however briefly, to visit Par Vollen, and there they discovered that qunari females do exist in abundance, and are quite easily recognized. The Rivaini say that qunari have a certain kindness to them, or at least a conspicuous lack of cruelty, although I did not observe the creatures closely enough to evaluate their character.

There is nothing to state that they are human like or that they have no horns. So many people's opinions are invalid.

Could the hornless qunari be the product of the traditional (horned) qunari + human mix?

That would presuppose the notion that qunari and humans could interbreed... and/or the possibility that qunari had encountered humans prior to coming to Thedas, wouldn't it? Anything is possible.

Prior to coming to Thedas? Isn't Thedas the world?

It's the continent/known world.

Though I'm a fan of the stargate explanation. :P

Its a rather ... radical change in my eyes.
Fact is - Sten has set a mark how a Qunari has to look alike - right ?
And now suddenly horns ??? Claws ??? other Colors???

I agree heartily with tmp7704 in this case - there is no lore behind to define this change.
The new design is awesome - but why not make a new Race - before throw all over board what we had in Origins ??

When i talked about unlikeliness of it i was commenting just on the skin colour part actually Posted Image

The horns and other aspects, i rather like them Posted Image  and it's pretty unexpected to see sure, but it seems to more or less work overall with the info the game provided earlier (and the new tidbits given in the article)

It's probably what the citizens see as the world, but anyone with a solid level of edicashun knows there's something east of the Amaranthine Ocean, south of the Korcari Wilds, north of the Boeric Ocean...

Why? Continuity? If its an improvement (as it is) then big deal, continuity shouldn;t stand in the way of that. How does it fundamentally make the game worse?

Being fair to BW this had been discused when it was learned Ogres came from Quanri Broodmothers. I think they had said something about character models or equipment. Now I´m thinking about the Klingon head ridge...

I find the new look quite intriguing and because it only applies to certain qunari, I don't see an issue with the changes. I actually think this look fits better with their description. I can't wait to see how the other races look as well.

Hehehe wasnt just me that thought of that then

Oh and FYI that is the LAMEST explanation of anything in the history of anything i suspect XD. Ohhhh, not ALL of them have it, of course! Makes perfect sense! What about their claws do they chop them off and stick someone elses hands on?

And does "Reasons not yet clear" = "we're still working on that excuse"?

I would've been ok with the changes with the Darkspawn if actually looked cooler, instead of just plain stupid.

The changes in the Qunari? Awesome. They just looked like tall elves in DA:O.

Personally, I thought the darkspawn looked AWEFUL in the those early screenshots, but seeing them  in the video of DA2's comic con demo, they didn't look that bad at all in motion in the game. They looked better than they did in DAO.

My jaw dropped. I yelled at my computer screen.

And then I realized "quelle surprise, Bioware is stomping all over Origins again"

I don't even know why I still pay attention. The more and more we learn, the more and more turned off I am to DA"2".
