I would suggest that we can't conclusively state that the plants used to produce Qunari dye are going to be water soluble.

Not to mention, to a society like that of the Qunari, I imagine the psychological effect of a large, painted and  half-naked Qunari running at you as compared to that of one running at you while wearing a uniform would not be disregarded.

kindly do not deb*se yourself in such an argument. Please. Ocaam's Razor bets 50 euros that you are making that up.

I got the impression that Qunari were organised, methodical society that fought in planned way. Are you changing them into berserkers?

I'm not doing anything - I just do cinematics, I'm just conjecturing :P

And this is why one has to be very, very careful what gets posted on the forums...

Confirmed: cinematics featuring large, painted and half-naked Qunari running at you. Thanks John!

Because of this, I plan to act randomly for the rest of development.

I will be unpredictable, like a mongoose.

Like it or not, they're part of the fantasy milieu. We're using them and we're going to put our own spin on them, and continue to evolve them in Dragon Age as we see fit.

I should have realised that DA was just another computer game. Thanks for being nice Folks. Seeing you.

Yes... you should have realized that quite early when it was uhm... released... as a game that is playable on computers...
It's also a few books, a comic i refuse to read, and an animated movie at some point.

What did you think it was?

I will be honest because I don't want to be sarcastic.

I felt that for the first time in an Eon after the Great Tolkien someone was taking a serious effort to design a Universe and a continuity where Ret-conning was considered a taboo and imagination stretching a crime. You have to understand that how much of a relief I felt when I saw something so Amazing and New and Original that actually was based on brilliant efforts and intelligence and did not resort to Deus Ex Machinas every time the Authors realised they wanted to advance a story. But now I see that DA-U is equally susceptible to all the foils of, lets say, DC universe. And frankly I am NOT interested in another DC universe. One is Bad enough.

I don't see how they are retconning anything with these new Qunaris though.

Its not the Qunaris : Its the Quoted statement made by David Gaider.

On a related note, what is he holding in the concept art, anyway? A skull?

Alas, poor Yorick...

That's all I can think of when I see that.

Looks like invoking some sort of fireball-like spell to me. Maybe it's one of these tongue-less Qunari mages.

And yet I cannot think of a race of people less like Hamlet.  The Qunari are nothing if not decisive!!!

i'm assuming the war paint is more like a rite of passage for qun'ari youth into the beresaad or another warrior caste

He doesn't seem to have any claws in the first screenshot. Just the concept art.

Confirmed: your next animal party member will be a mongoose instead of a Mabarri. Not intended for combat use, but as a means of distracting or tricking NPCs.

There still are Qunari in armor though, right?

Only the tal-Vashot. They gave up the warpaint with the Horns.

There can be more than one use for the "war paint". In DA in particular, don't some of Ferelden warriors paint both themselves and their mabari so the dogs can tell them apart from the enemy through the smell?

Who knows what Qunari equivalent of mabari may look like...

Meh. Just because one guy has warpaint doesn't mean that there are going to be armies of cannon using, shirtless Qunari running around with flashy paint on them. It could just be some sort of tradition the Qunari have when they come of age, or some such.

Well, I don't get how Genitive could have gotten it so wrong in that case.

Excerpt from the tome of knowledge.
"Almost before the rest of Thedas had heard of the qunari’s appearance in Par Vollen they were invading the mainland, striking first into Rivain and Seheron. The defenders of those lands were hardly a match for qunari discipline and technology. One shot of the mighty cannons, the likes of which our ancestors of the time had never seen before, brought troops to their knees. Qunari warriors in glittering steel armor carved through the defenders with ease. History calls this the First Qunari War, but it was mostly a one-sided bloodbath, with the qunari advancing far into Tevinter within ten years."

Oh and surely if they had cut their own horns off there would be some evidence of them?

Oh, my friend, comparing a fantasy video game to a comic book, let alone DC..... yeah, that's kind of a fallacy.

that's what i said :P

maybe that's not even paint at all, maybe it's the blood of their first foe and by doing this the qun'ari comes of age

You seem to have taken that quote out of context. He was simply responding to the notion that DAO's elves and dwarves were too different to the ones from the Lord of the Rings.

Sure, but do we actually know that its warpaint and not just some sort of ritualistic body painting? JohnEpler used the term only after you did, and like he said, he just does cinematics and was conjecturing.

And even if it is warpaint, it doesn't mean that everyone uses it. Could just be specific warriors, an elite pack of some sort that goes out first to intimidate the enemies.

Err... Out of context? Perhaps I thought the stablished context of how elves and dwarves looked was established in DA itself! Oh! Thank you! Thank you! How smart you are! You must Einstein reincarnated! When did you get you Nobel Prize in Medicine?

I really don't think more than one type of Qunari can be compared to 374 "final" crisisessies or blackest nights or any of the other things that DC does to prevent me from reading their comics or cause me to lose my grip on reality and consider "Xorn was actually magneto... wait no xorn was actually xorn pretending to be magneto... no wait he was the real xorn's evil twin brother pretending to be xorn pretending to be magneto!" sane by comparison... (my marvel fanboyness is showing isn't it?)
Comic retcons are 99.9% the result of writers trying to undo things other writers had done. Gaider himself is still the one building DA's lore and he has clearly stated that this isn't how all Qunari look it's just how some Qunari look. Their absence in Origins doesn't mean they can't exist, it just means they were absent for some reason (probably character model limitations)

Frankly. I find the idea of Cannon bearing organized and Cool society with Warpains Idiotic.
Example: Naked Aliens from Planet Zinzarde.
