Bioware has clearly lost the plot, this guy looks like an Asari throwback
from ME,or as pointed out a blue oblivion creature thing.
From fantasy to absurdity in one foul expansion pack

Just took a look at the qunari pictures and... wow that style looks... hm... interesting. But the visual space between the races is a bit too big for my personal taste here.

A radical new design eh? Not bad Bioware. I'm actually impressed. Although I was initially taken aback by the new design, I began to appreciate it once I actually looked at it. Haha I must say gawking in shock and confusion will only get you so far.

The tattoos on the new Qunari, definitely give it a sort of Pacific Islander feel and adds a deeper quality to their obviously alien culture. The horns also helps drive the idea that the Qunari are just as different from humans as the elves and dwarves are. In addition, it makes their Darkspawn counterparts, the Ogre, seem a bit more believable in a way. However, now the issue becomes how does gray skin become pale yellow skin? That aside, Bioware did a good job of adding more to the Qunari design without really destroying the original design itself.

BIoware I think you need to show a armored Qunari with horns minus the paint.

While having a hornless qunari bringing him food.

ALSO FEMALE QUNARI.Lets have a look at that.

they are "reimagining" the elves and dwarves too, so, stay tuned

I think it looks pretty cool, but it's a pretty huge difference in design. On the other hand, looking at Sten's concept art it's possible that something like this was their original intention for the qunari and it was only graphical/style limitations that held them back before.

I thought any Dragon Age thread turns into discussion about Loghain, given enough time...

If you turn right at Loghain, go through Alistair, and keep driving past Denerim, you'll wind up at elves and dwarves, and from there we go straight to Tolkien. You can't miss it.

It is good point, but I wish the Qunari did look like this instead.

I also approve of this concept of Sten. They should return to their Origins ...ehem... sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm starting to think Bioware should delay this game. (note to self; this is the point where I have started to ask game-studios to delay games).

Maybe I should start buying DAO DLC in the hope they can just move the franchise in that direction instead of all this other stuff.

Honestly there were nay-sayers of DAO and I was one of them. but I will be honest it blind-sighted me with its success. the reason why I think DAO worked is because it played to territory that other games were not covering. Being a tactical single-player story driven RPG. There just aren't many of those games coming out. GPG has the Dungeon Siege franchise, but they've moved away from that IP in recent years. Torchlight is an Action RPG from Runic games, but not really a story driven game.

DAO I think was successful because it represented that slower paced tactical game-play with an engaging story. It also had a sort of darker tone, mature content and was heroic in scale in terms of story content.unlike every other game I played I felt connection through my origin and how I should act. I play a Human Noble different than a Human Mage and Different than a Elven Rogue.

If DA2 goes more 'main stream' it has to compete with the main stream. I don't think Bioware can access a Game-Play oriented crowd. There have always been balance issues, the gameplay hasn't been particularly innovative, their level design (while beautiful) is mostly uninteresting (I will say there are some particular points where it does shine). In Bioware games I have to grind through areas of very similar combat situation.

the main stream is very much a gameplay crowd. poke'mon isn't about story, mario isn't about story, zelda isn't narrative focused. Is modern warfare a story driven game? is WoW a story driven game? is half-life a story driven game? is counter-strike a story driven game? is star-craft a story driven game?

Right now Bioware is the story telling video-game company. I play Bioware games because it shows me what great storytelling can be. I play Deus Ex becuase of its great game-play design. I play Valve games because of their level design.

DAO stuck to what Bioware was good at, focused and innovated upon that; DA2 seems to be taking some steps backward, with bio ware trying to be something it's not.

It's an interesting question. Where could they have gotten the qunari from, if there were no qunari in Thedas at the time..

In your statemant you implied that qunari came from another world ;)

Err... perhaps you inferred that they came from another world. We've said that qunari arrived on the continent of Thedas from elsewhere just over three hundred years ago. Nothing more.

You know this always made me wonder.... The Humans come from another continent as well as the Qunari. Is there something, a dark force perhaps, chasing people from their homelands?

Come to think of it, I always wondered where the Ogre got its horns since they were the tainted form of Qunari. I guess this design change answered that question...

That's assuming that there IS another continent. What if these guys just drop from fade. The New Qunari look like love-children of a Desire demon with a Human.

Also, this wallpaper has a larged, behorned man in the Deep Roads along with three other people. A qunari?

I think you're right. I'm calling it now...Qunari companion and Dwarf companion (Varric?). The other two are probably supposed to be Hawke and Bethany.

ashez2ashes wrote...

Good grief. So they've basically
said screw continuity at this point.

To be fair, we've only seen like 3 Qunari ever. That's hardly representative of an entire race of people. And keep in mind this is just concept art...I doubt they ALL have those full-body tattoos.

(And I only say 3 to leave room in case I forgot one...I only remember Sten and the merchant in the mines in Awakening).

actually there are several encounters where you fight Qunari mercs and at least one random where you fight a whole group of them so we've seen quite a few Qunari in-game. Still I don't think it's game breaking, tho they should dial it back a bit IMO.

From the "few" pics I've seen so far tho, the art style is terrible and not at all like what attracted me to DAO. So many visual artists are hopping on the bandwagon and doing "asian style" art now that you can't get away from it. I'm usually very posative about Bioware's stuff but this one looks crap so far, here's to hoping I'm dead wrong.

NO FEMALE QUNARI. THAT WOULD BE THE END OF US!

Also, like the new Qunari concept art. BioWare really seems to be taking a step forward.

That is a good explanation as to why all Qunaries looked like Sten in the DA:O and DA:O:A (well, minus hair).

EDIT: Arrrgh. Ninja Gaidered.
