It's hard to tell who's holding that staff...assuming that the second-to-the-left character is Hawke, that could just be his spear/halberd thing he's always holding.

Yeah, but that's a BIGASS spear for Hawke.  Like, JRPG-style wonder-if-he's-overcompensating big-ass spear.  And the way the (very blurry) figures are configured, I think it looks a little more like the horned guy's holding the staff.

You're right...that never occured to me. Huh.

Huh. I wonder about that.

I'm sure someone has pointed this out already, but you see multiple other Qunari in Origins in Sten's dream during Broken Circle. Plus that one guy in Awakening.

That said, new Qunari look neat. Continuity is nice and all, but I think this is a fair trade.

You see a lot of qunari, actually, but the general assumption that we are making is that they were Tal-Vashoth and removed their horns or had their horns removed.

The devs have, however, have told us that the qunari have gone through some changes as a whole--if you saw Sten now, he'd look a little different.

I have to say, when I first saw the qunari I was like WTF? but the devs have alleviated some of the more pressing concerns and I'm okay. In fact, I like it a little better now. They're like a different species, as opposed to just tall humans. What with Sten whining about how none of the faces were like his and Morrigan calling him a noble beast.

It does look more like the horned guy is holding it since it's on his right side and it seems unlikely they would make Hawke a lefty even in concept art...
But, as far as the size goes that's actually about right if it's closer to a halberd than a hunting spear.  Pole-arm weapons are usually quite tall.

In any case, whatever is in that wallpaper isn't Hawke's...thing. Go look at it on the DA2 page--it's not nearly long enough. Of course, if polearms are added to the game, that may just be another one. It has...things...coming off of it.

This concept art.
Not actually a loading screen. Someone may have gotten confused because it came out with some loading screens.

(at least that's what I'm talking about... I hope that's what they were talking about...

That's what we're talking about. There is a wallpaper called "Loading Screen". It's the big black slab with the red markings.

Ah I see. It does appear to be the qunari-looking fellow holding the polearm-looking weapon, yes. Although I'm more interested in what that hall is all about! If the game can capture the feel of this concept art, that will be quite a place to see.

Female qunari? Yes, they exist. According to Brother Genetivi in the Codex, they are readily different in appearance to the men. However, look at the OP for links to what Flemeth looks like, and what the Qunari look like...it's possible she shapeshifted into a qunari form.

Yeah you're right. I never thought about that, Flemeth got new horns!! But the body's still human-like (considering they've revamped the Qunari fashion). Could be just her 'natural' dragon horns anyway.

Jeez, hopefully thats not a normal qunari. I know they never said sten was the norm, but its a little random for some to have horns and some not. Could be a testosterone/alpha thing i guess

I'm really not sure what to think of this.

On one had the design looks good enough, on the other....why change it when ther game is meant to happen during the same time line as the first. I could understand if it happened a few centeries later or before, but not during and a few years after.

Good grief. So they've basically said screw continuity at this point.

Yeah. They change Darkspawn. They change Qunari. Soon the entire continent of Thedas will look like South America.

This did surprise me a lot, I hope the lore explanation for this will be good enough and well presented in-game...

They do however, look pretty cool!

dont know if this has been said but,

Why are ther no ogres with no horns?

Perhaps all Qunari have small horns inside thier heads that dont protrude out of thier head, and when they become darkspawn, it grows it really big.
