So, do they still have bronzed skin underneath the paint? (that is what I assume the markings are)

Edit: I thought horned meant helmets in the codex. It was a lot more literal.

Boy I love retcons! This is up there with the ol' "Oh its not ammo in ME2, its just Geth heatsinks!" :sick::sick:

Seriously, you've got some HellBoy in my Qunari...Oh, hello there Sten! Whats that? Whats your thought on being completely retconned?

I like this, Qunari were supposed to be different, rather than just taller with brown (sopposed to be bronze) skin, nothing against brown skin btw!

I see it similar to the klingons and why some had bumps and others didn't.

HOT.

I always kinda irked me when Sten would call things "human this" and "human that" and he looked pretty human to me. just.. bigger. I like the difference, but he looks more like a demon. Not that that's bad or anything.

So is it more rare to have horns as a Qunari or rarer to not have them?

Well, neither are regular Qunari unless tolds to as in Stens case. At one point Sten made the remark of the mercs "being lost to us" or something like that. And as for the lore reasoning, obviously it's just a cheap excuse to have a reason for that drastic change. You can take away the horns and the paint and still have a hard time legitly explaining how Qunari such as Sten and that are possibly from the same race/species, it'd be like someone trying to explain how a chicken and a turtle are from the same gene pool.

Actually, reading the line again, it seems that being born without horns is actually something special. And if you leave your country, it's not uncommon for the horns to be removed.

Again, this doesn't come out of nowhere. Ogres have horns, and there's a Codex that hints they have horns too.

Again, give them all horn, take away their horns. It's quite a drastic change from Sten to that, from a giant humanoid to whatever we shall call that. It's not the horns alone that kind of surprise me, it's going from what we saw in Origins to this. Kind of like the Darkspawn, a really radical change in design that would be incredibly difficult to logically explain away in lore given the huge difference between what we have established and what will soon become.

Not having them is apparently rarer.

This is suprising indeed...but I can't say that it *bothers* me or anything. I wasn't emotionally attached to the way the (decidedly few) qunari we've met looked before.

I like it, it looks a lot better than the original Qunari.

Fairly certain he would say the same thing about his own concept art, and Zevran's/Alistar's as well.

Image IPBImage IPBIt's concept art so I think that it ends up kind off stylized.  Take Flemeth, for example. I think it was Mary Kirby who explained that her body wasn't quite as model-like in-game and she doesn't look as extremely young as in the art.

You may well be correct. But the quote in the first post, leads me to believe they will be changing the game model/appearance as well to look like the concept art. I think it is a good thing, but am now very curious to see what they will actually look like. It's a pity the original game didn't have them like this.

See also: Tali and the quarians, if some of the fanart of her without her helmet is to be believed ^_^

Okay guys, relax.

I thought about it for a while, and then suddenly realized that this is concept art.

If you don't understand, look at the DAO development sketches for LelianaAlistair (!)Zevran (!!!) and Stenhimself. I think the qunari won't look quite as... excessive... as we fear they may be.

Basically, let us not trust concept art.

Wow...I'd never seen Zevran's concept art before.  If he'd come up to me like that in-game with his FAABULOUS FEATHERS OF FAAAAABULOUS, I would have lost a kidney laughing at him.  Poor Zev   He's no longer as fabulous as he once was.  But I agree, concept art is necessarily over-the-top.  'Cept in games like God of War, in which case it's just about what you see on screen <_<

Hopefully Hawke has something to say.

...does anyone else think the horns and the red paint are kinda hot?  Or is it just me?

I rather liked that personaly.  It's a lot like what we do in the real world... You might think there's a big difference between you and this other group, but someone else not from your culture might not see any difference at all.

I guess I was affording them more poignancy then was due... Image IPB

One of those is an in game model. I hope it gets changed. Now they just look like Daedra.

The qunari and the draenei need to get together and protest Unnecessary Racial Retcons.

I was trying to stay positive, but nothing about this seems good or bodes well for the quality of the story.

They did mention horns in the codex though. If we were to remove what I can only assume to be war-paint they should look pretty similar (except for the horns). They at least have the scowl.

And the 'claws' that this Qunari has in the second screenshot, doesn't seem to be there in the first one, which apparently is an in game screenshot, so that shouldn't be a worry either.

THe thing that bugs me about this is the fact that they're changing everything visually. FLemeth looking different is ok, since she is a shapeshifter. But stuff like this really sinks my enthusiasm. It looks fine technically speaking, but it looks nothing like any Qunari we saw in Origins.

I'm guessing they'll change up Lothering into some booming metropolis now or Morrigan will have a shaved head and look like a goth vampire now too...cause you've got to "hot rod" that art!

And the nose. That guy is pretty hulky--it's hard to tell if the qunari are going to be that large in game. If his physique is shrunk down a bit, they might look a little more alike.

Well for Sten, keep in mind he was out in the sun
all day for like 20 days. Naturally he'd have a killer tan. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

I don't know if I'd say "hot," per se (my sexual insecurity forbids it), but it definitely looks pretty bad-ass. It's just such a departure from what Sten looks like that it's taking some time to sink in.
