Edit: I thought horned meant helmets in the codex. It was a lot more literal.

Well, neither are regular Qunari unless tolds to as in Stens case. At one point Sten made the remark of the mercs "being lost to us" or something like that. And as for the lore reasoning, obviously it's just a cheap excuse to have a reason for that drastic change. You can take away the horns and the paint and still have a hard time legitly explaining how Qunari such as Sten and that are possibly from the same race/species, it'd be like someone trying to explain how a chicken and a turtle are from the same gene pool.
Actually, reading the line again, it seems that being born without horns is actually something special. And if you leave your country, it's not uncommon for the horns to be removed.
Again, this doesn't come out of nowhere. Ogres have horns, and there's a Codex that hints they have horns too.

So is it more rare to have horns as a Qunari or rarer to not have them?

Seriously, you've got some HellBoy in my Qunari...Oh, hello there Sten! Whats that? Whats your thought on being completely retconned?
You are a huge downer. On every thread.Kordaris wrote...
I guess some would even defend Elves with chicken feet.
You may well be correct. But the quote in the first post, leads me to believe they will be changing the game model/appearance as well to look like the concept art. I think it is a good thing, but am now very curious to see what they will actually look like. It's a pity the original game didn't have them like this.andar91 wrote...
It's concept art so I think that it ends up kind off stylized. Take Flemeth, for example. I think it was Mary Kirby who explained that her body wasn't quite as model-like in-game and she doesn't look as extremely young as in the art.

Okay guys, relax.
I thought about it for a while, and then suddenly realized that this is concept art.
If you don't understand, look at the DAO development sketches for Leliana, Alistair (!), Zevran (!!!) and Stenhimself. I think the qunari won't look quite as... excessive... as we fear they may be.
Basically, let us not trust concept art.

It's like a lust demon crossed with a ogre. I don't know what to think of this.
Hopefully Hawke has something to say.

I always kinda irked me when Sten would call things "human this" and "human that" and he looked pretty human to me. just.. bigger. I like the difference, but he looks more like a demon. Not that that's bad or anything.

They did mention horns in the codex though. If we were to remove what I can only assume to be war-paint they should look pretty similar (except for the horns). They at least have the scowl.

Well for Sten, keep in mind he was out in the sunHerr Uhl wrote...
So, do they still have bronzed skin
underneath the paint? (that is what I assume the markings are)

I don't know if I'd say "hot," per se (my sexual insecurity forbids it), but it definitely looks pretty bad-ass. It's just such a departure from what Sten looks like that it's taking some time to sink in.Sable Rhapsody wrote...
