Bull****. We saw lots of Qunari in Origins. All the Mercs you fought, the ones from Stens Dream, the merchant in Awakening. Oh bioware, you so crazy.

Qunari who leave the Qun also (conveniently) remove their horns for reasons unknown.

Still doesn't explain the two in the Fade. The original ones looked like badass Vikings, these look like Hellboy.

Huh. I like the horns; it give the qunari a little something extra, and if we actually see both horned and unhorned qunari then it isn't a retcon, just an expansion on the lore. Really, the only thing I kinda dislike is that it appears that qunari are no longer bronzed-skinned, which was supposed to be one of the races defining features (or is he just completely covered in body paint?).

Yes, I think its body paint.

c´mon Brock you whine about everthing about DA2.

Hey, I'll keep "whining" until I see stuff I like. If BioWare is releasing this stuff for people to chat about, there you go. The visual style looks like a rubbish retcon thus far- I'm willing to see more, but the more I see, the less I like.

I want to like DA2, I really do. But the more I see of it, the more it just looks and sounds like a something totally divorced from what Origins established. I'd love to be wrong- but at this point the drip feed of ho-hum news isn't impressive to me, at all.

At this point, I just want to see some PC footage and we'll go from there...

Okay guys, relax.

I thought about it for a while, and then suddenly realized that this is concept art.

If you don't understand, look at the DAO development sketches for LelianaAlistair (!), Zevran (!!!) and Sten himself. I think the qunari won't look quite as... excessive... as we fear they may be.

Basically, let us not trust concept art.

Good point in bringing that up

Well, minus the fact that one of those in a computer generated model IE. something that could easily be stuck in the game I'm not terribly sure how much less excessive they'll make it.

I guess I could see some changes for Elves. Traditionally, they are lithe and fair and graceful...in Origins they sorta just looked like skinny humans with pointy ears. It would actually be pretty interesting to see that beauty and grace clashing with the poverty and squalor of the Alienages.

I despise elves because they're just so damn beautiful and graceful and perfect. The mere thought they'd get retconned to be these beautiful, poetically tragic, oppressed race of supermodels is enough to get me foaming. The qunari I'm fine with (I guess?). But I'd like to see the elves stay the same.

Only special Qunari are born without horns...and Sten and his companions were special enough to be sent to investigate the Blight.

Yay, I'm not the only one who wants to get my hands on a qunari!  My thought process upon seeing the new qunari went along the lines of "Well, that doesn't look like Sten...but HOT DIGGITY DAMN."

I think it's the tiefling fetish.  It's definitely the tiefling fetish.  Damn you, Valen Shadowbreath!

They weren't Qunari, they were Tal'Vashoth. The article even says the ones who had horns tend to cut them off after they abandon the Qun.

@ people who believe this is a recon.

Where did you think the horns on Ogres came from?

Ha ha, I called your troll reference before you did it in OP.

What troll reference? Both pictures look very similiar and in fact I would call the art style as well as look of the character very identical. Kratos doesn't have horns(obviously he is not as exxxtreme!) but both the red tattoo and gray skin as well as muscular build are present. He looks very similiar.

What? Muscles and red/white paint? They're like twins!

Right- the one shot is a CG model. And the Origins concept art was very old in the dev cycle too, if I'm not mistaken. They changed the entire concept of Alistair from being a veteran Grey Warden to a new recruit. I'm doubting we'd see crazy visual changes with the short dev cycle they have now for DA2.

Yes, well, the only thing excessive about the computer generated one is the overly muscular body. Scale him down a bit, and problem is fixed.

I think I'd like less of a grunting gorilla face, but...

Yesh.

I would like to see a seven foot tall hunk of man muscle. So doubt we'd get it, but, yeah, I see where you girls are coming from. :D

It is. Just a convenient one if it wasn't they would have mention it in the Codex.

Also, keep in mind that the Fade dream's source was the Sloth Demon.  He did a pretty ****** poor job convincing Sten and Morrigan that their dreams were true.  He could have just been basing Sten's companions off of Sten's own appearance.

Really? I didn't think they were all that beautiful in Origins. In fact the prettiest NPCs I can think of are humans (Bella, Morrigan, Leliana, etc.). Even Dwarven females (and I seriously seriously dislike Dwarves as a whole for no rational reason) had the potential to be very pretty. Elves just seemed, like I said before, like skinny humans.

Oh, I mean elves in general culture, which is why the mere mention of making them "lithe and fair and graceful" makes me see red.

Yeah, I liked their appearance in DAO. Kinda made Zevran hard to romance as a human (I have things against kissing people shorter than I am), though.

I wouldn't like elves to be graceful/beautiful...just seems in Thedas that wouldn't fit. At the same time, the skinny human look sort of sucks too.

I just ...

I don't mind it in a vacuum, but I REALLY REALLY hate that the qunari had a look before that was perfectly fine, and now suddenly we learn they look wildly different, with horns and stuff. Like if this was a brandy dandy new race, I would think "neat!" But I'm sorry, it really doesn't work for me as a "No seriously, they secretly always looked like that," type thing.
