Why would they be special if they have no horns, don't make sense to me.

You make less of a scene when being in foreign lands perhaps?

So I guess I was on drugs when I saw that qunari mercenaries, qunari guards in Denerim ?

as much as it pains me... and it really really pains me... Kordaris is actually right about this.
However!
That's only in the technical "We have seen other Qunari" sense.
The article quite clearly shows that Gaider's lore building skills are top notch and able to change when needed. Anyone who thinks a story must be set in stone from day 1 has never tried to write in their life.
While we saw some Qunari we most certainly didn't see all Qunari. Gaider has provided an explanation for why some Qunari have horns and others do not.
I personally think they look fantastic. They look properly intimidating now instead of just a bit tall.

inb4 elves have massive ears, wear pointy shoes with bells, and are three feet tall.

I've liked all the changes to DA2 so far this is the only one I've had a problem with. Maybe if it wasn't white and red it would be better, but as of now it just looks ridiculous. I think that's the main thing that's putting me off.

“Not all qunari have horns,” says Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider.
“Some are born without them, but it has never been considered a defect.
Instead the mark is considered special, indicating one who is clearly
meant for a
special role in their society—as a Ben-Hassrath who
enforces religious law or as an envoy to other races. It is also not
uncommon for qunari who abandon their beliefs to remove their own horns,
for reasons not yet clear.”

I am guessing that there are more Qunari with horns than without. Which would make the ones without them unique.

wow... :? ...

The horn bit remind me of the Garif from FFXII, but those were masks... I guess

Damn another Qunari I'll have the pleasure to "figure out".  I hope this one knows how to hold on his sword.

What? What? How is Hawke (and it's Hawke, not Hake) emo? Where...I mean...good lord, where would you get that? And they have explained numerous times, the jean thing was simply an early development thing. The qunari would probably be wearing them too.

Because most are? So having a trait that distinguishes you is special? Humans have nothing we can compare it with, but it says right in the article that they don't consider a deformity.

Perhaps it has something to do with their legends or something, I don't know. If we get a horned qunari companion, maybe we'll get to ask.

Qunari seem like the type of folk that would want to intemidate you as much as possible. Horns would have that effect.

c´mon Brock you whine about everthing about DA2.

Hey, I'll keep "whining" until I see stuff I like. If BioWare is releasing this stuff for people to chat about, there you go. The visual style looks like a rubbish retcon thus far- I'm willing to see more, but the more I see, the less I like.

I want to like DA2, I really do. But the more I see of it, the more it just looks and sounds like a something totally divorced from what Origins established. I'd love to be wrong- but at this point the drip feed of ho-hum news isn't impressive to me, at all.

At this point, I just want to see some PC footage and we'll go from there...

Perhaps they are trying to win back the people who play on the consoles at the moment.

Sorry, yes it was. There was just a lot of bawww going on in this thread (and it's not like trolls don't say things like that), so I had a hard time making the difference. Although, it is the internet, so emoticons are preferred. :)

I guess I could see some changes for Elves. Traditionally, they are lithe and fair and graceful...in Origins they sorta just looked like skinny humans with pointy ears. It would actually be pretty interesting to see that beauty and grace clashing with the poverty and squalor of the Alienages.

I despise elves because they're just so damn beautiful and graceful and perfect. The mere thought they'd get retconned to be these beautiful, poetically tragic, oppressed race of supermodels is enough to get me foaming. The qunari I'm fine with (I guess?). But I'd like to see the elves stay the same.

I'm not sure about that. I despise most fantasy elves because they're pompous, if good-willed, idiots at best, and suprematist, reclusive douchebags at worst. Their apperance doesn't ****** me off, it's their personality. If they slightly tweaked the elves to make them look more graceful and ethereal while leaving their mentality and personalities untouched, I might as well roll with it.

Also, crackpot theory: it's been widely stated that elves have lost their immortality due to genetic adaptability while living with humans. What if this made them look like humans as well?
Maybe sooner or later we'll meet elves (likely Dalish) who have walled themselves off from humans for a looooooong time and have actually started looking like more traditional elves. Of course, such elves are bound to be huge douchebags as well, but still.

I think it would have helped if this Qunari wasn't overly muscular and painted red/white....it probably would have been easier for fans to swallow.

BioWare seems to want to surprise us constantly though.

I don't see him as overly muscular. They're supposed to be rather massive, anyways. Maybe it's just me. Image IPB

Rare. They are bred for their positions early, not having horns may be a sign of intelligence or something *shrugs*

I wouldn't like elves to be graceful/beautiful...just seems in Thedas that wouldn't fit. At the same time, the skinny human look sort of sucks too.

Well, in the talk you can have with Leliana she specifically says people like to hire elf servants because they're "graceful and pleasing to look at" and Sten's snark you can get early from him when you ask him about his people also empasizes elves are "lithe". So it's not exactly something that isn't present in the game settings already, but just the same i wonder what sort of changes they're making to them.

If that was the case then they would remove the horns so they would also be special.

True, they are. Even in the Sacred Ashes trailer, Sten is pretty big, and most of the mercenaries in game are too.

It might have just helped if they put him in a suit of massive armor instead.

This pleases me. Qunari are the second most interesting race (Dwarves being first, of course) and making them more distinct is very welcome.
