Is Tali a particularly tall Quarian? I recall the ME wiki saying that Quarians are typically shorter and of slighter build than humans, but a lot of the pics (like the foot-fetishy one above) show her as just as tall if not an inch or so taller than Shepard. Or is Shepard just a little shrimpy? Hmmmm....

Every character in the game that isn't a krogan, turian, volus, hanar or elcor is the same height.  Man, woman, quarian, drell.  Its a game limitation.

You can take it at face value, nothing wrong with a sexy 5'10" quarian pouncing on you   Or look at it as she would realistically be a 4-6" shorter.

And while I haven't looked into it myself, I've seen it guessed in the past that based on bone length, Shep is probably around 5'10"-5'11".  (Which makes Tali that tall in game as well.)

*top, and she's taller on her tiptoes *

I think Storywise Tali is likely shorter than most of the other crewmembers. It's just a limitation of the current hardware that keeps most of the characters the same height.

Game limitations. Nearly everyone is of the same height in the game execpt for turians, krogans, and salarians. In real life, Tali would be shorter than Shepard.

I think it's easier for the animators if most of the models have the same height. Not to mention that it's easier for Tali and Shepard to look each other in the eyes and snuggle while standing that way.Posted Image

Yeah, pretty much all models use the same animation skeleton (with the exception of hanar, elcor, volus, Praetorians and the like), for this reason, they need to be roughly the same size and shape.
(For example, Redemption also contains several "fat" batarians, but in-game, they're all fairly skinny. Ascension also mentions that a slightly above average human male was approximately two heads taller than an average quarian male)

It would also be a lot easier for them to pack themselves into their ships if they aren't as tall as the average human.

Doesn't Ascension mention quarians being a little shorter than humans and that most quarians are of a very similar height? Because of prolonged interbreeding of subraces, the race as a whole starts to homogenize or something like that is how it was explained. This also somewhat explains why humans have such genetic diversity in comparison. After a few hundred years of extensive globalization and galactic colonization however, it's implied that ethnicity will start to even out and humanity will develop into a rough average of the various former groups. So height will end up somewhere in the middle between uber tall Danes and small Bushmen. At least, that's how I took it. It seems to make sense that something like that happened with the quarians.

Limitation of the game engine.  Other than a bit of detail here and there, all of the people on the Normandy are the same size when compared side to side.  Despite grunt being massive in cmparison to Shepard.

It's also the same reason why Saren looks like a robotic turian throughout most of the game and no one notices it until the end.

That is the one hing that bugged me.  Since they will apparently not need to do much to the engine for ,E3, I hope they fix the body engines.  I want my cut scenes to be mroe accurate dammit!

One thing I hope to see in future games is more unique quarian suits. I remember reading somewhere that some quarians wear extra clothing to try and hide the suits and I'd really like to see that.

Casey Hudson said in a interview that they have learned a few new things, so I guess only time will tell.

But Tali can have the same height, though. Would look mighty silly otherwise.

I think Golo did that in Ascension. Some individuality would indeed be most welcome.

They had better use CryEngine 3 though, 'cuz if they're gonna show Tali's face, it's gotta be realistic. (Seriously, they even manage to mess up Yvonne Strahovski, that's just sad)
UE3 is outdated and inefficient by now.

But yeah, I know, BioWare already said they wouldn't change the engine, they don't want to make all the adjustments they did all over again. (Though that would be considerably easier with CE3, assuming it's using the same awesome add-on and flowgraph system CE1 & 2 use)

They modeled Samara's face after a real person and I think it turned out wonderful.

Yeah, but with the blue skin and squid-headedness, there's no chance of the uncanny valley occurring.
If that facial structure were used for a human female, I'd have to think twice about it. (Seriously, have you seen that jaw, that brow and the size of those eyes?)

That said, Tali's current placeholder is bloody gorgeous (assuming they'll get the mouth right):

I got pretty tired of the Unreal Engine myself around two years ago.

I think it would've been best if they'd developed their own engine from the very start. That seems to be the thing to do these days.

But I'm not asking for some ultra high tech, photorealistic games. I'm just sick of seeing everyone using the same engine all the time.

They're not doing something new that might turn out to become better than the UE3, or taking the overall technology a step forward.

Wat.

The Unreal Engine 3 took over 6 years to develop and cost nearly 100 million dollars, not a chance in hell they'll top that within a reasonable time and without overblowing their budget.

Yeah, I'm thinking if they really, really want to use Tali's VA as an inspiration for her face that they do some stuff to "alien" it up first.  And I think they did a real good job updating her placeholder face as well.

Though so far I really love how they designed Jack's face. It really just puts all of the other human one's to shame.

Most of the Quarians seen in the flotilla were about as tall as Shepard...

So its either they are at an average human height, or Shepard is just damn short.

*EDIT*
Aaand...surprisingly, the page reached 100 on its 1st/2nd day. Talk about speed...

I can't believe a 3d engine does not have a scaling factor in it. Quarians are shorter than humans and should have been shown as such through the whole game. Correcting that now will just make it look odd.

Where did you get that Quarians are shorter?
Also Turians, Elcors and Hanars are taller and and Volus shorter.

From the Mass Effect Wiki.
"Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans."
First line under biology.
