Let it be known, bioluminescence would impair vision just as badly as tapetum lucidum would. (If not less, as the ammount of light emitting from behind/in front of your retina wouldn't constantly vary, which is the whole point of those backlit sensors, though they aren't literally emitting light from behind the sensor as it may have seemed I was implying)
As for the prey seeing you coming, again, we do not know what the quarians have evolved from, nor why they have illumination assisted eyes (through one way or the other), the angler fish theory has just as much chance as them being ambush predators in the traditional sense.

Ever see that deleted scene in Terminator 2 where the t-800 tries to smile? When I did Miranda's romance on my ahnold Shepard...it looked just like that! I need to get a picture next time.

JE still had a choice (or not!) between Silk Fox and what's-her-name (the boring one? Dawn Star, that's what it was). And BG2 you almost had to fight Aerie off with a stick, though she way overplayed the "I'm broken and need you!" card. (Jaheira all the way, BTW). BG2 is notable in that there was a certain level of conflict between the potential LIs if they were in your party.Goat_Shepard wrote...
Bioware has had far more immersive and choice-effecting games in the past, no? I think it was JE or BG. Not sure.NuclearBuddha wrote...
I'm having a hard time thinking of an example in western games, but in Japanese games you get a lot of things where the story literally does change. Like: if you take this route, X problem will happen, but if you take another route Y will happen and there's no mention of X. The route not taken simply doesn't exist.Well, I know I come off as trolling, but the reason is because I have the same dilemma. You're gunna hear the line, you have to talk to her to get the Shield Upgrade. She could have developed something over those 2 months, and then again after Shepard's death and becoming an adult, but the path is linear after that. You have to accept or reject, do you not?No matter where you go in terms of LI in ME2, you're still going to find yourself at the Flotilla, listening to "I got better Shepard, I got you."
Maybe it's not a healthy attitude on my part. But it's the one I'm stuck with for whatever reason.
This is not good.
You didn't really come off as trolling. It sounded like you had a legitimate complaint. Just wanted you to understand where I was coming from.

So I have to hold Tali out at arms length.
That.....sucks.
It's as simple as this; She takes the relationship seriously. It's not a fling, there is true love there. I have not the knowledge of the other romances, but I imagine Jack and Thane don't take the relationship lightly, either. That makes my playthroughs a bit more..complicated now.

You do realise that even in broad daylight, those eyes are still gonna be ridiculously reflective, right?phonypapercut wrote...
Tapetum lucidum may impair ability to see colour or maybe even visual clarity, whereas bioluminesence would absolutely ruin night vision. And I'm not seeing how it would eliminate variable light intensity.
Because of this, a lot of nocturnal predators are inactive during the day because otherwise they'd either ruin their eyes (because of the higher sensitivity) or simply because they cannot see shit.
Either that, or they've adapted to adjust their eyelids and pupils to such an extent that there is an extremely limited ammount of light coming in.
There are animals with tapetum lucidum, like dogs, that do not need this, as their eyes simply aren't that sensitive, nor is the "eyeshine" that reflective that it would impair their vision like that.
Needless to say, bioluminescence does not occur on Earth, that does not mean we can simply discard it as "ineffective". (After all, there aren't a whole lot of animals with three digits or curved shins (rather than their upper leg) either)
It's hard to say how the would compensate for a constant illumination emitting from their eyes, but I've said it before, and I say it again, the geth do it too.
As for it decreasing the variable light intensity, perhaps I chose the wrong words. If the quarians would have adapted their eyes to such an extent that they can see properly with truly backlit retinas, this would mean that they do not have to worry about sensitivity; because after all, if it works in broad daylight, it'll work just as well during the night. This would give a massive advantage, as they would be able to see clearly at all times.
But I'm probably thinking way too much into this, I'm just gonna chicken out like many others I have discussed with have before and resort to aesthetics:
Glowing eyes would look better, and would be more consistent to those having no idea about the concept of tapetum lucidum. M'kay?
