Agreed, it's a vary serious matter. Should not be taken lightly, she needs words of comfort.

However, a simple joke isn't bad. It helps ease the worry.

Hey. Captain's orders is easily one of Shep's best lines in the game. Meer pulls it off.

It's just not what I would say personally. To each their own.

I just personally can't say anything else.

I think Tali's actions towards the geth depend soley on what morals
Shepard instills in her. She was raised to hate the geth. Anyone in a
quarians position would be the same way. You see them as machines gone
crazy that killed billions of your people, women, men, children. Over
coming that resentment would take a lot.

It would be
like trying to convice John Connor to love Skylab. Granted, the geth are
hippies compared to Skylab and it's agenda.

Legion, I
think, will play a key part. Legion showed Tali what the real geth are
like. Not crazed machines, but sapien synthetics who only wish to
understand. So now that Tali understands and realizes there can be
peace, with Shepards coaching, true deplomacy can be made between to two
races.

However, getting the council and the rest of the galaxy to understand, would be even more of a challenge.

I'm KFD'ing this discussion because I left right before a few more people posted.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]

First of all, I completely disagree with Shepard shaping Tali's views.  She is way too strong and independent to have her view on something as critical to her life as the geth be changed by someone even of Shep's persuasive ability.  There is a reason why she stands up to you on the Alerei, and even in ME1 about the geth.  She has her own beliefs, and she is very steadfast with them.  In those beliefs, we see that she is perfectly willing to work with a geth that isn't shooting at her first, and that's all I need to see really.

I feel like a lot of people are assuming what the quarians feel, and we don't know that much.  Do they actually hate the geth?  Do they curse the geth name whenever they see a flower that they can't smell?  I don't think they do, and there's no evidence that they do aside from feeling like they logically should based on human emotions that we have.  If they blame everything that happened on the act of losing their homeworld, which is what I think is closer to the truth, the geth are a temporary obstacle, and no more.

Pacifien wrote...

The geth do not understand hate. If they understood hate, they'd have a rudimentary understanding of emotion.

No one says the victor has to hold the loser's hand either. The loser in this case even ran beyond the victor's sphere of influence. And no one helped them as they ran. The geth then continued about their business in private. Apparently, whenever the quarians did feel like a reunion, it was to attack.

The whole geth/quarian situation is way beyond the blame game. Or it should be, but Riptide's post is a good example why it will never be. The geth don't want to ever make themselves vulnerable to quarian attack again. The quarians will never forgive the geth for what they've done.

Still, the part where Riptide says the quarians want their world, homes, and body back just reminds me of how much I want the quarians to let go of the dream and get back to reality. Colonize. The whole benefit of being a spacefaring civilization is that your people can move on when your origin world is gone. Though most people are usually thinking more along the lines of a world whithering and dying, it can really apply to this situation as well.

My point goes along with this too, we don't know that the quarians hate the geth, and we don't know if they would forgive them.  There is no evidence that they wouldn't at least.  If the geth offered the homeworld back; a return to normal lives, no amount of hatred/stupidity is going to keep the quarians from accepting that.

As far as creating a new home, they did create a new home, its what the flotilla is.  It just has a shorter life than most planets.

Mark Meer is definately a Talimancer. He also did a kickass Job with Jack, but Tali's REALLY stands out. One line really sticks with me, though I've only ever seen it on youtube.

"You don't have to share me.... I'm not interested in anybody but you... Tali..."

I think all Legion does is open the door for understanding, but doesn't provide understanding in and of itself. Legion's geth are still the geth that went to war with the quarians -- that's not something you can blame only on the heretics.

Now, Shepard is a Reaper with the massive power of indoctrination at his disposal to get anyone to do anything he wants at any time (unless he put off the loyalty mission until the very end and doesn't meet the persuasion point check), so Shepard can take his powers and force his peaceful will onto the quarians and geth. Totally see that happening. Don't like it, but can see it.

This goes upon the touchy grounds of the Morning War, but I really don't think there is a quarian alive that blames the geth for fighting back in the Morning War.  We need to know more about the quarian feelings towards the geth, because people have created this feeling of mass hatred that I don't believe exists.  I see the quarians looking at the geth as their obstacle to a normal life, and nothing more.

I like her response if you go with the middle option too.

I'll admit, the Alerei was very interesting, she really stood behind her beliefs. Then again, it wasn't about making peace with the geth, it was mainly about them 'giving up' reclaiming their home world. Frankly, I'd be pissed off if someone suggested that to me.

Both Tali and Shepard have things to learn. However, Tali looks up to Shepard. Like Garrus, they want to know what he thinks. Not so he can make the choice for them, but so they can get another point of view, so they can help draw their own conclusions. That effects ideas and morals.

Tali & Legions stand off was also very deep. Shepard pointed out that neither races slates are clean. They both equally screwed up. That either than can move on, or both suffer.

One thing that paragon Shepard shows Tali & his crew, is that there is always a better way.

Grim in the fact of Tali winning.

I had an idea I posted elsewhere about a return to Rannoch concerning a problem with the Geth, if Legion's loyalty mission was completed.

Beware, another incoming wall o' text...

MadCat221 wrote...

The premise is that the Heretic Geth are still a threat, even after Legion's loyalty mission.  This'd happen after that mission, as a matter of course...

Basically, some heretic infiltrator runtimes still persist in the greater Collective.  If you destroyed the Heretic base, these are the holdouts mentioned.  If you rewrote, these infiltrator runtimes were isolated enough that the saw the Big Patch Update coming and covered for it.  Regardless if you destroyed or reprogrammed the heretic base, these runtimes are now going guerilla (so to speak).  The problem?  They have alpha build copies of the Heretic virus packed with them, meant for testing purposes, covertly reprogramming a few True Geth runtimes at a time to ascertain the virus's effectiveness.  Now they're using it in a last-ditch effort now that the main bulk of the Heretics are history through whatever means you used in Legion's loyalty mission.  Fortunately, the greater collective detected this before it was too late and enacted a collective-wide platform isolation contingency; basically, no direct runtime or memory transfers between ANY platforms, to isolate the spread of the virus, and are limited to GethSpeak (the clicky noises) for communication.  Basically, they're all stuck in whatever platform they're currently on until the crisis is resolved, be it a nexus hub, a mobile platform, a starship control unit, or any other myriad of platforms they may have.  Most of the known infected platforms are present on Rannoch.

Legion is informed of this; their first sign of something amiss is a message from the Collective; no additional data files, just "meet at this rendezvous point".  When the meet the Geth ship at the rendezvous point, Legion tries uplinking, but finds they're completely blocked.  They then get an audio comm in GethSpeak, through which the Geth ship informs Legion of the problem.  Shepard and his/her crew are needed, as s/he has expertise in efficiently gunning down Heretics, and also Legion, since their platform was specifically designed for autonomy from the Collective and is an ideal platform for countermeasure deployment.  If Tali's still alive, she insists to come along, for obvious reasons...

There'd be plenty of opportunity for talk back and forth between Tali and Legion that may push her towards reconciling her own hatred of the Geth, which would probably serve to help things along with my Quarian Question post mentioned above.

If they are only going with the top 'winner' I will be very disappointed. Garrus has already been featured in a few items and all Tali has gotten is a crappy figurine.
