Oh?

---

"You really like this show?" the older initiate asked, frowning at the jagged picture. Two aliens struggled with a balky engine, their exotic omnitools glowing enticingly. The translation had stopped for some reason, so if they were explaining the problem, it was no help to the audience.

"You stuff it, too."

"Nah, really," Finch's voice took a harder edge, demanding an answer. Shepard knew he was close to giving Finch an excuse to take it out on him, but it was hard backing down.

He just glared, and the senior gang brother met his gaze with easy arrogance. When the younger boy didn’t look away, Finch started to get back up. Shepard ducked his head quickly at that. He wasn't big enough to take on Finch yet, but someday. Soon.

"It's about these aliens," he finally admitted, voice truculent and defensive, "they fly around, pissing off the man, busting up robots, stealing **** they need. They're… like a gang, you know?” Now having said it, admitted he gave a **** about the show, it was almost impossible to meet Finch’s gaze.

“Like a gang,” he repeated lamely, trying to justify his interest.

"What do they look like?" Finch asked, at least sounding interested. He squinted at the screen again. "They all got suits on."

"Hell if I know, it's like a big secret or something."

"Hey, that one's the right shape!" Finch laughed, pointing out one that was obviously female.

"Yeah," Shepard replied, appreciatively, “look at those legs. Damn.” He’d been almost desperate to talk about it, but it was too weird to say to just anyone. Maybe Finch wasn't so bad.

"Whatever," the older boy sneered, smacking the back of the junior initiate's head, “freak.” Shepard's face reddened in shame and anger once again as Finch strolled from the room, still laughing.

"If any ship can make it in time, it'll be the Pa--"

Touching.  Very touching.

But wasn't Shepard born BEFORE first contact?  He would have had 10+ years of "no aliens exist".... right?

Indeed, however he was born after they found the Mars ruin. They had irrefutable PROOF that we are not alone.

Ah, your right.  TIMELINE proves it.

Would still be interesting to have Tali and Shepard talk about his childhood, what he thought of "aliens" at the time.  Had to be all over the news....

((Hint*Minific Needed*Hint))

Working on it.

It's in Ch.2 of SoH, if I get off my lazy ass and finish it. (At like 600+ words)

What the **** do you expect him to even recall much less actually say?

If he is anything like my youngest nephew he would have thought the turians were dinosaurs.

Regarding First Contact War also.

Thought that was obvious.

Also from the same fic:

---

"Geth pursuit ships!"

Tinny sound blared from the salvaged speakers, barely loud enough to overcome the noise of the gathered Reds squabbling over lookout duties and who was going to get the last pack of smokes.  Several of the younger gang
initiates clustered on the couch in the next room, eyes fixed on the vid screen, escaping the bleakness of the crumbling doss that was all they had to call home.

“First Contact Hero might be on,” one of the youngest said hopefully, glancing at the largest boy sitting on the only
surviving couch cushion.

“No,” the larger boy growled sharply, a scowl darkening his face, though he didn’t look up.  He seemed the most
enthralled, leaning forward and watching with avid interest, and until someone bigger intervened, he was choosing what they watched.  The other scrubs quieted down; that was just the way it was.

"I'm pushing the engines as hard as I can but--"

Ah.  Earthborn backround too, I see.

Good to see Shepard had his priorities in line, even while so young!

I did a little, too...

*Tali enters the Captain's Cabin, Shepard quickly shutting off the vid screen as he sits up from lounging on the bed.*

Shepard: Hey, beautiful.

*Tali turns to the vid screen, raising a brow under her visor.*

Tali: What were you watching?

Shepard: Nothing.

*Tali crosses her arms over her chest as she leans on her back foot.*

Shepard: I wasn't watching anything!

*Tali's omni-tool flares to life.*

Tali: Do I need to turn it back on?

*Shepard sighs before turning the screen back on, a catchy theme song playing.*

Singer: Fly far, Paus, pride of the Migrant Fleet... Dashing captain, courageous crew... Plucky young engineer, too...

Tali: Is this...?

Shepard: Yeah. A friend of mine used to get me pirated copies of the episodes when I lived on Mindoir. I watched them all the time.

*Tali joins Shepard on the bed, nestling in next to him as they lay together watching the opening theme.*

Tali: I haven't seen this in years... Why didn't you tell me you had it around?

Shepard: Well... I kind of thought it was a little... dorky.

Tali: Dorky? Shepard... I named by drone after Chiktikka. I think I have you beat on that one.

Shepard: Well... Chiktikka was always my favorite.

One day, my friends. One day humanity will know. We will slip the surly bonds of Earth, to embrace the fate of destiny. Live long, instill morals of valor and good into your children, and they will to theirs. For they will be the pioneers of our species. Give them love, so they will give love to others they meet. Human or other. We are all equal.

Question.

If we found life, and say they looked like the Prawns from District 9, would you guys still have the same xenophilic tendancies? What if Tali was a Prawn?

Somehow... I know I'm going to regret asking this...

I lose. Going to sleep, Talimancers. God, I feel old even being a fledgling 4.0 vet these days... Not very many 1/2/3.0 vets left, and new ones in every day. This place is changing fast. Rip, Phil, Rune, Rage, Buddha. You guys keep this place together. And just... well, thanks.

You are going to have to try a whole lot harder than the prawns to turn me off.

Also, Prawn-Tali? Shepard would roll with it. Why? Because it's still Tali.

You reminded me of this:

"For we cannot tarry here,

We must march my darlings, we must bear the brunt of danger,

We the youthful sinewy races, all the rest on us depend,

Pioneers! O pioneers!"

If there is life out there, I have no doubt that we will find it. All that worries me is what might happen next.

I'm on record as saying Tali's physical appearance doesn't matter to me, and I mean it.  That said, I'm not certain that I would have necessarily been able to get to that level in the first place if appearance was that different and out there.  I would like to think so, but who knows.

That said, there is no appearance that could completely slake humanities xenophilia :?

Would love to comment on this, but I can't because I've yet to see the movie for I fail at life on a daily basis.

What if the aliens looked like everyone's grandmother?
