Don't think you'd need in that time and age to be eyeing down the iron sights. Even Shep doesn't!
Plus, if Zaeed has used all the weapons in his lifetime from the right shoulder, switching to the left one won't be an easy task.

He and Kasumi are awesome squadmate starters, though.

All I can say is: onboard targeting computers. That's why Shep can fire from the hip and still hit stuff. Same goes for Zaeed.
