I never got that feeling.  I don't think she was that social or popular, and she was probably more focused on her work than friends, but she has a nice enough personality that she probably had a small group of friends or something along those lines.

Its possible, I could definitely see her choosing to focus on her work rather than getting particularly close with anyone.  Its supported by her not mentioning anyone I guess.

There is that conversation in Mass Effect when she mentions it being hard to be the daughter of an admiral.

I always saw that as her talking more about what she was expected to accomplish, or more specifically, what expectations she placed on herself as a result of that.  Because she's an admiral's daughter, she thinks she needs the best pilgrimage gift ever, and so on.  I never got the feeling that being an admirals daughter would necessarily affect her normal life too much, its not like its a hereditary position or something.

Do I wish it happened? No. No one deserves that to happen to them [barring TIM and selective others]. However, I've already stated I won't be feeling any emotion from what happens to her. I guess I'm just a cold hearted bastard like that.

I'm not offended by any of those things. I'm just a hopeless optimist... so probably not good for my tear ducts if I read it. I'm sure it's really good.  Maybe one day when I work up the courage.

Because I view Tali as being rather agreeable with most people on the Normandy, I think she was a similar person while with the Fleet. I find it odd that Kasumi is the only squadmate who is consistently viewed as being nicely sociable, though. Every other character thread focuses on what sets the character apart, keeps them alone. Tali says that quarians treat each other as families, that they must be sociable to make up for their lack of contact. I think it was only until she was on the Normandy that she even learned to appreciate the benefits of solitude.

So does that now make her a solitary person? Does she not seek out companionship beyond a chosen few? Guess it's up to the player really. She might not talk about other people that have been in her life, but not many squadmates do. Talking about your best friend some elementary school probably is low on the writers' list of character details during the game.

My own impression is that Tali appreciates solitude but does very well in a group. And she likes poker.
