There's definitely a market. Remember, Fornax magazine is a human published operation.

Though, I like to think both Mordin Solus and Helen Chakwas are contributing writers from time to time.

Oooooof course it is. :pinched:

Never thought Shepard wasn't fleshed out enough, but now that you mention it...it IS always Shepard asking how folks are doing, and not the other way around.

At least he has a voice. My Dragon Age character really bugged me for that fact, even though I loved the game.

He should be named "TwoHornedWonder," humans have two human horns, remember?

My main issue is that we don't get to properly flesh out Shepard in the game itself. I like that in Dragon Age party members would actually ask for your opinions on things. We get a bit of that with Jacob but I want moar. I want Shepard to be able to have problems, and failings. I love for Tali to ask how Shepard is, and he can respond in different ways.

This sort of thing is actually the theme of my "serious" ff series.  The very first thing I wrote for ME2 began like this:

“You never talk about yourself, Shepard.”

I can see some interesting character traits or conflicts that Shepard may have as a cause of that.

-
And the squad mates in ME2 never talk to each other. In that light it's funny that Shepard tells Thane to get out and talk to people.

Shepard is the audience, we play the game as this character and we experience the story through this perspective. Characterization is nice, but I felt that it was for us to be in this position in this story. The game did a great job in giving the rest of the main cast very good depth and personality, one that we can experience as Shepard.

Repostan for relevance.
---------------------------------
Excerpt, Uncomfortable Conversations
---------------------------------
"But you have had such a dalliance before." Shala said with venom in her voice.

Shepard raised his hand. "Only once before Admiral," he responded, his voice lowering in remembered pain. "Her loss has pained me to this day."

This brought Shala up short, hearing the pain in the humans voice. "And what did happen?"

"She died."

Memories washed over him. Long auburn hair, soft smiles, gentle touches. Then fire, and screams, and pain. Always pain. Shaking his head, he let the memories recede.

"Her name was Abigail," Shepard stated softly. "She and I were young, and so in love. Back then, I was content just to be a farmer," he said with a dark bark of laughter. "Then the batarians came to Mindoir."

He shook his head. "When it was over, both Abby and my family were dead. I lived, barely, and joined the Alliance Marines as soon as I was healed." He looked her straight in the eyes. "There has been no one else in my life until Tali."

The admiral bowed her head briefly; she had not understood enough about this human, clearly. I have let my preconceptions blind me, she thought sadly to herself.

"Thank you for making that clear to me Captain," she said after a moment. "And I am sorry for your loss. The loss of a mate is a tragedy in the Flotilla. As it happened when you were young, I can understand recovering from such an event."

She pauses, before continuing, "Even still, moving on from such a loss is not something quarians can do Captain," she said with true regret.

Thoughts of Rael, his daughter, and his wife filled her. She loved Tali as a daughter, this was true. Her feelings for Rael and for Tali's mother, however, brought nothing but pain to the admiral. Instead, she opted to focus on the reason for this call.

"I must ask again, what are your intentions for Tali'Zorah?"

Udina: Relations of a sexual nature with a species as weak as the Quarians?!  If you were going to cause a political ****storm, Shepard, I hoped you would at least choose a race through which we could forge a useful alliance with your relationship.  The Krogan, for instance.

Shepard: *thumbing through Fornax* I wonder if 'Helen of Arcturus' has an article in this month's issue... *pauses* Goddammit Mordin!
Kasumi: Wait, you really do read that for the articles?
Shepard: Gah! Don't sneak up on me like-
*Kasumi glares*
Shepard: Oh. Right.

In my ME universe, Udina is never a councillor. If I could work it so that there's some life-support accident aboard the Citadel, and Udina gets sucked out an airlock, then all the better.

Frankly, that's a major reason why I still haven't installed Dragon Age but am going through Mass Effect 2 a third time.

Also, in ME1/ME2 it looks like the dialogue is much more animated. You hug people and punch them and stuff, whereas Dragon Age looks more like Knights of the Old Republic (which is by now quite old)--Two generally emotionless faces with thousand-year stares looking at each other. Just an observation based on what I've seen so far, but I can't say anything definite until I try it out.

Because I like to be contrary about certain characters, I can see Udina actually appreciating the political merit of such a relationship.

It makes humanity look more benevolent towards outcasts than the Council, and shows that we're not just a pack of belligerent racists.

I feel that Dragon Age and Mass Effect had different narratives - the former was more first person, the latter more third person. In that light I would not mind Shepard having a few quirks and dynamics in order to add layers. I especially want to see Shepard as having faults. He's too much "action hero" for me. It's boring. I want him to be able to tell Tali that sometimes the mission almost feels like a huge anchor on him that won't let go, or something. Really, what was done in Jacob's romance.

ME2 is miles above ME1 in the conversation stage direction department.  A lot of times in ME1 it's "Here's one head.  Now here's the other head."  There's a lot more camera work and blocking in ME2 overall.
