Nah, I see them as bringing Jacob back because he's an LI. Jacob is actually better liked than Kaidan I think.

Kaidan is actually probably the second most popular female love interest.

I'm not saying that won't be in ME3, I'm just sayin they won't play a big part in ME3, like Wrex in ME2.

It would be a gigantic waste of time to introduce about six new characters, though. Especially if they're just going to be around for one game. There won't be enough time for them to develope. Not to mention all the LIs that everyone expect to return.

And I really do not want to recruit another dozen of new guys. That has been done and dealt with.

How many squadmates do you think you should have in ME3?

I know how many I'll be using (2-3,) but they should have the full group of 15 or whatever.  If they don't have to play an integral part in the plot, they can all be on the ship for me to talk to the ones I want to, and ignore the ones I don't care about after one playthrough.

They probably will, but I'm referring to their place as squadmates (or at least major characters).

Unfortunately, ME2's ending direction (involving a high probability of losing certain characters) almost denies any of the ME2 cast from being squadmates in ME3. Unless Cerberus goes and rebuilds THEM too...

People still believe this after all this time?  I really need to save the long version of this answer as a template :pinched:

If they write them as cameos, they still need to bring back all of the expensive voice actors, and still write them into the story in some way.  That costs a lot of money for basically no point.  Then you have to design a completely new team, bring in voice actors for them, and then develop them over the course of the third game to avoid them being completely flat.  ME2 was about developing the characters, ME3 won't be as well.  Its as much a money thing as anything else (which is very good for us, considering Bioware seems to be drifting farther towards bottom line hunters.)

This is before even getting into the fan response.  Bioware made the whole point of ME2 for the people to find some characters that they liked.  They won't just abandon that unless they're a lot stupider than we all think.

Wrex, Kaiden, Ashley, and Liara would beg to differ.

I won't deny that the ME2 team has the possibility of being major characters, but it's questionable whether they'll get to be unique squadmates or not. There is the design option of having them back if they survived your ME2 game, or having a mechanical duplicate of them in place if they died. (By "mechanical duplicate," I mean a new character with the exact same combat stats.) There are definitely ways of circumventing the problem without needing to resort to retcons, but I don't know if BioWare will invest the time, money, and effort into bringing back fan-favorites solely for the sake of appeasing various factions of fans.

Admittedly, anything is possible in the video game world after Hans Zimmer composed Modern Warfare 2's OST. Regardless, it will almost certainly be a year or more until news begins to come in, so it's just speculation until the time comes.

I think Samara's a bit more likely than Mordin, actually. Which could be a shame since I vastly prefer Mordin.

Mordin's only thirty, though. He has a couple years left.

He's also likely since he's one of the only characters that was required for the plot in ME2.

Mordin was retconned into being 30 specifically so he could be back, I think he's safe

Yea, but he's unpopular among male players.

Samara does say she'll continue to fight alongside you, if you're paragon (or not renegade).

It would be nice with a batarian squadmember.

Hey guys. I'm back. I think we need a few new faces to be thron into the mix but Bioware also needs to bring back fan favourites like Tali, Thane, Legion, Mordin, Wrex and Garrus but they still need a few new faces to spice things up a bit.

Not retconned. If you actually pay attention, it's pretty obvious how old he is in-game.

If I had to chose between Kaidan and Jacob which of them I liked the most I would chose Kaidan.

It's true. He says he has a decade left, which implies that he's around 30.

Its already been pointed out that Wrex is his own unique case.  Bioware had a different krogan in mind for ME2, and they had another place for Wrex all along as leader of the krogan.  The others you mention are all coming back for ME3 (considering they were written out of 2 in order to preserve them for 3.)

They are also the fail safe for if you kill off your team in two.  You are forced to have two people survive ME2 besides Shep, and that makes 4 squad mates for ME3, and you can play through all of ME1 with 4 squad mates.  Duplicates aren't necessary.

Its as much a thing of having no reason to get rid of them as anything else.  It seems pretty obvious that we won't get character specific missions this time around, so who cares what characters are on the Normandy?  Obviously the ones that your already paying for, and will automatically get fans buying are the ones to use.  There isn't a single good reason to not bring back the old team.  The only support for the idea is the notion that its somehow easier to write them all out, rather than bring them back, which is just plain untrue.

The only new character I'd accept is Urz. Anyone else will feel tacked on.

No offense guys, but could we maybe... stay on topic?

I guess this isn't really Tali related, but it partially is. I was talking to Grunt, and he said something like "Humans, Asari, Salarians, all too soft. Quarians, not so much." I kind of wondered what he meant by that...physically, or mentally, because Quarians don't seem "tough and rough" or anything.

Eh? i could have sworn Kasumi was at least thirty.

Kasumi is 25 years old.

Edit: I was beaten to it.

From her dialogue, she does sound older/wiser, like she's lived a lot more.

Really?  I thought the only indication of his age was his "human equivalent" in the one guide where Samara's "human equivalent" was 600.  Guess I need to pay more attention :pinched:

I think people just think it's too much work for Bioware to bring them back. To that I would point out what how much work is put into a quality title like Mass Effect in general.

Anyways, I expect the ME2 love interests to be back. If they aren't, then I may consider passing up on ME3 depending on who else is absent.
