In ME1, I respected the Reapers as that unknown threat that's probably going to kick in my backdoor when I least expects it.

That respect was shot down when I fought Harbinger on Horizon. How? He doesn't know when to just shut the f**k up.

Sovereign had one speech, and that's all it took for me to be interested in them.

Sovereign's speech is probably my favorite thing about all of ME1.  It still makes me feel awesome when I hear it now, even after hearing it plenty of times.  It was done perfectly in my opinion.

Unfortunately, they went with quantity over quality in ME2.  A badass speech as the collector base was blowing up was all they needed :?

The main problem with Harbinger is that he just doesn't use that vague, unknowable way of talking that Sovereign and Grayson used.

But if you like Mass Effect 2 you are just a button thumper who has never played a real RPG.

And as veteren of every Bioware game since BG1, I go ballistic when I here that. I loved ME2 because Miranda, Mordin, Thane, Samara, and Legion grabbed me. Simple as that. That said, I want straight RPGs like DAO to continue to exist and the thought of every RPG being a "cinematic" hybrid distrsses me.

So I've heard on the DA2 forum. We are knuckle dragging neanderthals who can only comprehend the mind numbing simplicity of Call of Duty and similarly infantile games *monocle*

And what's so great about DA2 then?

I just see BW milking the cash cow.

Around when DA2 was first announced, there were a lot of posts that where DA2 was denounced as infernal hellspawn, actually. That Bioware had abandoned the "true fans" and rpg enthusiasists and instead became the thralls of the shooter crowd. Also, Bioware is Lucifer in corporate form.

I bought the first game because of the moral choices you could have. Did not care about the romances really - the first time through I didn't even have one. The second time I romanced Liara for the novelty, but wasn't impressed. I was really hoping that we'd learn more about the Reapers in ME2 and they'd become more intriguing, but they just became a joke to me really.

I know they felt like a polar opisite from the first game where Sovereign was an unknown until virmire and then you get one of the most epic evil bad guy speaches ever imo. Then you get Harbinger who is funy at first, not really something you want in this kind of villan, with his ridiculous combat diolouge then after the fifth time he shows up on horison he just starts getting more anoying. He kind of ruined the reapers for me there really going to have to ramp up the evil badss in three to really make the reapers be what they should be.

Sure, Harbiger was cool the first time he showed up, but when you hear the same garbage every time you stumble across him, it's not as intimidating anymore.

And most of it was just threats about that moment, while Sovereign's threats were lasting even after his death.

Agreed. The Reapers were ruined. I mean I never found them that great to begin with (they they were better than the darkspawn as portrayed in DA:O), but ME2 reduced them into stereotypical one dimensional villains.

Not true at all, just take combat from 2 with refined everything else from 1 and that would be a great gameplay experience.

Tales of Vesperia! ...No, wait a second...
Oh, I guess Bioware is the only company making noteworth RPGs in the West while every other good/great RPG is coming in from Japan. *shrugs*

Let's not drag RPG vs JRPG into this, no matter what nincompoop from [NAME DELETED] said during an interview. Let's all agree that Tali is fantastic and move on...to talking about how Tali is fantastic.

Morrowind´s a pretty good westerner RPG IMO.

An RPG to me is exactly what it's named - a roleplaying game. And I view roleplaying as, for example, agreeing with the genophage or not agreeing with it. I don't care about min maxing stats. I want a good story, good characters, and being able to roleplay with my character.

They always were one-dimensional villains, but Saren was the one creating conflict and drama as the middle-man.

For ME2, that character was supposed to be TIM, and he is intriguing, but he's not tugging at my heart strings like Saren was.

that said I still absolutely love both games, and have high hopes for ME3

True enough - but ME2 made them less interesting.

Tugging at your heart strings?

TIM was a good villain. Part of it is because the lines between ally and enemy are blurred with him. It's brilliant.

Yeah, why shouldn't she abandon her important duty of keeping the drive core operational, when Shepard's poor little sparkling fish from Illium is almost starving?
