I'd also suggest Strange Days.

A. because it's awesome.
B. it's got one of those "can't you see who really loves you" stories.

That one's not ringing a bell. I'll have to add it to my mental list if films I need to see.

Ralph Fiennes, Angela Basset, Tom Sizemore, Juliette Lewis, Michael Wincott, Vincent d'Onofrio, William Fichtner.

Need any more reasons?

Good pick well need to add this to tali movie night.

Gaa!  Eastern Animation!  It burns!

I have never been able to watch much of any Anime, except Code Geass  (which I seriously recommend to anyone who enjoys... anything.)

HERESY!!!!  Miyazaki makes some of the best movies in the East or West.  Open your mind!

I will have to say though, most eastern animation would perplex aliens. Or amuse them, making us look rather naive in regards to what aliens were really like.

I could see Tali really liking Macross though. IMO, of course; it would probably resonate better with Femshep and Garrus.

Indeed. Tali. Anyone have any comments about the mini-fic posted a few pages back? It got spawned by the food and clothing discussions a ways back.

Uhd if we have another talk about Tali and Food, you know that  gif of  Saren you have that well really be me.

Now to comment on your mini- fic its was cute and sweet, of course my  Shepherd inherited my  cooking skills

Was cute.
You know that Tali would eat every bite just so she wouldn't hurt Shepard's feelings.
She's cool like that.

For me it's FFIV.  I replay that at least once a year.

Ooo, that's a good one.  Betrayal, love, sci-fi/fantasy...

But I like FFVI.  The completely understated romance between Locke and Celes is beautiful.

ME2, however, is something I can run through in a week or so.  Anything FF takes a while for a playthrough.

As it was you that said it, I do. I really do. ^_^
Right, so let's add RLR to Tali Movie Night.

Good choice.  For obvious reasons, I think she would also really appreciate Spirited Away.

Why Spirited Away? Princess Mononoke is a better movie in my opinion.

The themes would resonate with her more than in Mononoke, methinks.  About seeing past the surface, to who someone truly is, and finding love with that person despite the obstacles.
EDIT: Might have been thinking about Howl's as having as having more resonant themes.  Whoops.

That film was awesome.

I knew there was a reason you struck me as a good guy.

I am measured in worth by the weight in my taste in films?

I have seen many guilty pleasure films...

Nah, that film in particular just has a lot of meaning to me.

That film was adequete, at best. It had it's moments, but the film was littered with so much filler it was aggravating.

And the last ten minutes was just bizarre.

Tali: Shepard, what's happening?

Shepard: I don't know!

I agree, yet for some reason people rave over it.
I will never in my life understand why.

Having completed Tali's loyalty mission the other night, there is clearly a cafeteria on the Alarei.

Hmmm... was that the room with the sinks?

There were sinks, and cabinets. There was palladium next to the sink.

They wash their minerals, I suppose.

uhdnrt wrote...

This is true.  It would stand to reason that in the relatively serile enviroments of the fleet, they have the ability to cook and carry about a "normal" existence.  Albeit, they would have to use a blender or something to put it in tubes to eat it but it could be prepared relatively fresh.

This is why I strongly believe they practice cultivation. The plaza we visit on the Rayya has plenty of foliage around, it seems plausible that the quarians would even raise crops in their own controlled environments. Sterlizing a plant is not as difficult as sterilizing any sort of meat, so why not grow food?

Note: I have not read Ascension.

According to the codex entry on Quarian liveships, they use solar lights to cultivate and grow plants/food on the liveships, which are notably larger than other Migrant ships and actually have sizeable rooms with space to move around in (The trial takes place in a liveship, for reference). The food is then rapidly transported to other ships from there.

Maybe they don't have to eat paste on their own ships, I dunno. If they do, it's almost certainly made from plant-based food; but the codex entry makes it pretty clear that Quarians grow their own food rather than buy it. I would have assumed that they'd have a mutual relationship with the Volus for things like that, but apparently such is not the case.

This really makes me wonder what Tali would think of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

A really, really trippy ending?  Check.
The oddest pacing in a movie?  Check.
A one-eyed machine attempting to murder organics?  Check.

*shutter*

I have tried so many times to watch that movie, but I just can't.

Tali:  This man is incompetent.  It really is taking him five minutes to land that freighter?

Shepard:  Well, its realistic...

Tali:  No its not.  Flip off the engines, kick the starboard side around 20ish degrees, and allow the low gravity on Luna... um, I mean 'The  Moon', to take you down softly.

Shepard:  Well, Tali, he obviously have a quarian's control of the steering-

Tali: *Interrupts*  I have three fingers!  He has five!  Don't give me that!

Mononoke Hime has that nice message about the need for balance between progress and conservation, though.  I can see quarians appreciating that.

Though the young-girl-makes-her-way thing Chihiro has going on might have more personal meaning.

I don't know. Mononoke is awesome, but there's something special about Spirited Away. Of course, there's not a single Ghibli movie I'd trash. I'd even invite Tali to watch Delivery Service.

Hmmmmm, very true.

I used to watch some anime, but now. . . I dunno if I grew out of it or if the stuff they show on TV now is just not good or what.
Really, I stopped watching about the same time the Encore Action stopped having their Ani-Monday nights.

Thats because you got caught watching the crappy  Dubs man...  Dub = bad( save a few expections)

As far as anime I would  show Tali worth out a doubt ,Miyazaki's  work  mainly  the once mentioned Spirited Away, Princess Monoke(my fav) and Howl's Moving Castle(which i think she would like very much.)

edit: Thank you Uhdnot for giving the correct spelling of his name

I replay that one every 3rd year.  Also an excellent choice.  I love what they did with Terra.

Granted.  Totally worth it though.

Thinking about it, FFIV and FFVI have themes that would resonate with Tali. Betrayal, expectations, but the willingness to do the right thing, or the best thing for the most people, at a cost to oneself.

Terra was quite surprising in that she seems at the start to be the girl, you know?  And then along comes Celes.

But Terra isn't really pushed to the side.  She still has her own story to tell, and that's really special.

Ahhh. That's why I didn't like it; not enough Acid.

Probably the same reason I don't get The Grateful Dead.

I read the codex entires, forgive me for not remembering all of them.

Although they may be a wandering race, the quarians still seem self-serving. I would not have assumed that they would ever rely on any second-party resources.

You aren't quite helping by just pointing it out.

There is a light discussion going on, on-topic. You could join.

I will never understand why people rave of Reality TV, like the Jersey Shore but they do and that is TENS times worst than any  main stream out anime out today..... Any now after a brief break back to Tali

It's tough even for many planets to be self-sufficient.  I think quarians might have the food situation under control (given the talk about how important the Liveships are to preventing starvation), but everything else has to come from the outside.
