I loved the development Garrus had in ME2. In ME1 he was very easy to like because he looked up to Shepard - and you could mentor him. In ME2, they turned Garrus into an even more of a badass - and Shepard's pal. On a squad full of crazies and Cerberus enthusiasts, Garrus is among the few my Shepard would ever feel open with. It's as Garrus says in his romance - Garrus will never be uncomfortable with what they talk about. And it's awesome.

I thought Garrus' "hey, you really know what you're doing here with these guys?" convo during the recruitment debriefing was brotastic.

I don't think we can actually say for certain that Tali actually talked to Kasumi. Kasumi literally says that she watches the Normandy crew - that's her thing - she watches and observes.

Good point, but Tali is also a social creature by nature and I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't at least approach the woman once or twice while on the ship. Tali's probably thinking that it's nice to have another woman on the ship who isn't crazy or, you know, Miranda.

I think she would talk to a few people who were passing by or happened to be there - and try to hide that her questions were partly about her relationship with Shepard. Like the example that Buddha posted - going to Mordin's lab. Tali tries not to be obvious about it, but Mordin knows what's up.

But that's all battle field informality.  I can see Garrus and dudeshep comparing notes on women.  But I don't that it would be as easy for Tali and femshep, at least not all femsheps.  My paragade is a little terrifying.  And it's not that Tali doesn't regard femshep as a friend and they wouldn't talk freely.  I just think Tali would be sorta embarrassed to talk about that stuff.  She seems kinda private about it, even given how social and bubbly she is.  She walks away form Ken and Gabby to talk to Shep and she's quite nervous about it.  Cute nervous of course.  If femshep brought it up and Tali got used to it, I could see her getting more comfortable talking about it.  I still don't hear her flat out asking something like "Hey Shep, how's Garrus anyway?  *wink wink, nudge nudge*  Kasumi, sure.  Jack as well just to screw with you.  But not Tali.

Yea! I really loved that Garrus raised concern about Shepard. "Frankly I'm more worried about you." Brotastic indeed. Bioware should do that more often.

Raga,
I kinda agree I guess, I think it a cultural thing with quarians. Intimacy is very "serious" and private for them.

Ok, I've been staring at the following section of BTV for like... twenty minutes.  I'm editing it, and I just can't get it to sound right.  Could the brilliant writers here offer any advice?

It was Shepard's turn to ask a question. “You're still sending young
quarians on pilgrimage?”

BothTali and Han'Gerrel nodded, although it was Gerrel who replied.
“Yes. We still need many supplies in order to expand our towns,
making the gifts brought back even more important. But it is getting
hard. Some are arguing that sending young quarians on pilgrimage is
hurting our growth, that they would be better used here, helping us
build. That argument can mostly be countered by the fact that the
Pilgrimage is a tradition, and that we need supplies, as I said.

“You make it sound like there is a second argument for not sending them.”
Tali prompted.

“Yes.” Han said, shifting in his chair so that the sun coming in through the window
behind him fell upon his grey veil. “Some are saying that it's
almost a punishment. That sending them out in envirosuits, when they
could be adapting to life here, is harsh.”

“That is hard to counter.” Shepard replied.

“Indeed. Especially when you think of what the situation will be like in
twenty years, when quarians born on Rannoch will reach the age in
which they would leave Rannoch. Being born, Living as a child upon
this planet should quicken their adaption time. It should
strengthen their immune systems to the point that they can actually
be outside of the protective bubbles we quarians use as children most
of the time
.”

Tali, who had grown quite still as Gerrel spoke of the possibilites quarian
children now had, finally spoke. “Will... will they even need to
wear an envirosuit?”

Gerrel shrugged. “We don't know, not yet, but you hit the problem upon
the head. What if they don't? Can we really force them into one,
just so they can be sent out abroad?”

((This takes place on Rannoch, two years after the first quarians returned, BTW))

Not much of an editor, but I think that might clean things up a little; help with the flow.

You use "That" a lot.  A bunch of sentences start with it.

Edit:  Also, I don't recall Han speaking so formally.

Ah.  See, now I'm not sure how I missed that.  That's the kind of thing I was looking for.

As to his formality... I've been playing with his tone.  I don't want him to come off as too loose, as it's been 2+ years since he saw Tali.  And he's a governor now, too.

Bubbly's the wrong word.   I meant social and amiable.

I think part of Tali's development in ME2 was actually that she had become less social. The things she experienced in ME1, in between, in ME2, made her more of a shut-in. The same is in a way what happened with Garrus. Tali's got a shorter fuse this time around, but she's bogged down in her work.

It was a short conversation, but easily one of the best in the game, in my opinion.

The great thing, and gives me the greatest hope about him returning, is that the canon is pretty much Shepard being pals with Garrus.

About half of my FF's are other characters realizing something's up with Tali and Shep. Hell, I even have one for Legion.

---

The presence of Shepard and the additional personnel presented conflicting data. Shepard had initiated many hostile actions against Cerberus, but appeared to have been transported to the Old Machine via Cerberus craft Normandy SR-2. Organics were known to transfer allegiance, however, this did not correlate with previous data on Shepard. Non-human personnel were also anomalous for Cerberus, the creator in particular.

Shepard’s behavior toward the creator was anomalous as well. His protective action suggested alliance between humans and creators.

“Incorrect assumption: organics do not form unified consensus. Response may be individual.”

“Debate deferred pending further data.”

Wow... I must be getting tired, to miss that much.  But your right, it makes it flow so much smoother.

Might be time to stop, tonight.

((Thanks for the input, though!)

Agreed.  Although, Jacob starts heading the direction of "bro" with Dudeshep if you do all of his dialogue.

Kasumi would seem like jsut the person Tali would open up to. Social, non-psychotic, friendly, not associated with Cerberus. That and Kasumi strikes me as a busybody. Once she got wind of Tali possibly being interested in Shep, I get the feeling she'd hang on it like a dog with a bone until Tali started talking. And once you get a nervous or uncomfortable Tali talking....

I think a lot of that has to do with her being on a Cerberus ship.  But she still seems to get on well with folks.  Consider her banter with Gabby and Ken and she'll even join in on the poker game.

And I think Garrus was always a loner.  He's always got his head stuck in a panel or a Mako tire.  He seems like the kind of guy who goes kinda zen when fixing things.  I think it chills him out and centers him.

You do get some bro dialog with Jacob, and I liked that. He can very well be a bro. I think that Garrus' bro dialog was far more satisfying, though.

I'm not saying that she goes around telling everyone about her relationship, but I don't think she feels the need to hide it either.

But, you're right, she's trying to not be too obvious about it, however I think a lot of people, not just Mordin, can see what's up.

Remember my epic "why I like Tali" draft? I believe I explained my thoughts about her change in behavior.
